LAnkou Nov 19, 2005, 09:51 AM Buzz, wrong forum!!
Anyway, nice job...
Supa Nov 19, 2005, 10:23 AM Why should this be the wrong forum ?
Great art, CivArmy!
Could you make a list of the changes made in your mod ? It's quite annoying to look for the changes in XML, in order to replicate them in my mod. Perhaps my own stuff could inspire you ? :mischief:
LAnkou Nov 19, 2005, 10:25 AM because it should be in the completed modpack forum....
it would be in the good forum if there was only graphics changes. Since there is more than graphics, it goes in the completed modpack forum
Supa Nov 19, 2005, 10:27 AM Well, it's mostly a new graphics release. I see what you mean but, at least by tradition, new LHs should be in Graphics subforum.
Red Door Nov 19, 2005, 10:39 AM Yeah all of his civs have been in here.
Why break a great tradition?
Jecrell Nov 19, 2005, 10:39 AM This is definitely a completed modpack. The only thing is that CivArmy considers the definition of Modpack to be a compilation of mods, and that is entirely left up to his discretion.
Also, CivArmy, you can just create a custom .xml file for all your custom text under XML/Text so less is replaced and the complexity of your mods is lowered by a great percentage. For an example of this you can look in my Carthage Mod's files.
And lastly, thank you so much for your high quality work you've provided us. I just want to say that I really appreciate what you're doing here.
CivArmy s. 1994 Nov 19, 2005, 11:44 AM Buzz, wrong forum!!
Anyway, nice job...
In spite of the Civ4 Creators r posting the new civis on the Completed Modpacks forums I'll continue posting my civis on Graphics Changes, cos I did that for all my Civ3 new civis :) I think this is the right forum, I just use to post on Completed Modpacks when I do a complete new mod as American Continent Mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=107186) or the future Pack of Brazil Mod. We creators r doing a awesome job on Civ4 new creations, I don't think its matter what forum we all use to post :)
BTW, I checked your files of the Catharge Mod and I didn't see the difference in editing the XLM/TXT files  I'll check it again late ;)
Could you make a list of the changes made in your mod ? It's quite annoying to look for the changes in XML, in order to replicate them in my mod. Perhaps my own stuff could inspire you ?
I use to post the new lines on the first lines of each file that come with the new civ, unfortunally they r too many and I'm lazzy to post all them here
Jecrell Nov 19, 2005, 12:09 PM BTW, I checked your files of the Catharge Mod and I didn't see the difference in editing the XLM/TXT files  I'll check it again late ;)
Well, in your mod you have...
CIV4GameTextInfos_Objects.xml
CIV4GameTextInfos_Cities.xml
CIV4GameText_Strategy.xml
CIV4GameText_Civilopedia_Units.xml
CIV4GameText_Civiliopedia_CivLeaders.xml
while I had...
GameTextInfos_Carthage.xml
Basically I was able to cram everything from all those XML files into a single file with its own custom filename that doesn't really replace anything.
SuperBeaverInc. Nov 19, 2005, 12:14 PM You should use the shield from the Swaziland flag for the Zulu flag. It would look much better.

Supa Nov 19, 2005, 01:10 PM Jecrell > How did you to put all yours modifs in one XML ? Does the game automaticly load all XMLs from the XML subfolder ?
Edit: Ah, you were talking about the GAMETXT XMLs. I'm wondering if it could work for all others XML entries.
Wyz_sub10 Nov 19, 2005, 02:16 PM Good work!
Two comments:
- Zulu might be better named KwaZulu (sorry - a small peeve I have with Civ and Zulu :))
- I can do a city list for you if you want. Past Civ lists have iincluded the same places with two names (kinda like Edo and Tokyo for Japan) and have included broad regions with cities
CivArmy s. 1994 Nov 19, 2005, 02:22 PM @Wyz_sub10: please, do the city list. I can add it in the next upgrade.
@SuperBeaverInc.: I'll add this flag in the next upgrade.
I'll try add the @Jecrell tip to save XLM/TXT files in the next upgrade too.
Wyz_sub10 Nov 19, 2005, 02:51 PM @Wyz_sub10: please, do the city list. I can add it in the next upgrade.
Will do. I'll try to do this tonight and attach it here.
Wyz_sub10 Nov 19, 2005, 03:49 PM Okay, here's the list. A few notes:
- I've included only Zulu towns, as opposed to other Nguni towns (more on that later**)
- Towns include Boer/Afrikaan towns and use the Zulu name when possible
- As with my other mods, the list is based not just on size but on capital, size, historical importance and geographic representation
Here's the list:
Capital: Ulundi
Ethekwini (Durban)
Umgungundlovu
Epumalanga
Ladysmtih
KwaDukuza
Eshowe
Hlobane
Esikhawini
Richards Bay
Vryheid
Empangeni
Nongoma
Magudu
Mondlo
Endumeni
Mtunzini
Tongati
Gingindlovu
Babanango
Ubombo
Ingwavuma
Port Shepstone
Melmoth
Estcourt
Margate
Kokstad
Pongola
Leader option: knNtombhela (founder of KwaZulu-Natal, 1709)
Leader option: Cetshwayo (leader during Anglo-Zulu War)
Alright, back to **.
The Zulu were actually one of many tribes in the region, as most of you know. The tribes often mixed allegiances and intermarried, etc. (as did pretty much every group in history, in Europe, Asia, the Americas, etc.)
The broader regional group was the Nguni, who migrated from Zimbabwe (hence the use of the name in previous Civs). This group includes the well-known Xhosa and Swazi, as well as the Thembu, Mfengu, and Mpondo.
If you choose to expand the Zulu to include the Nguni, the city list would change. Just a suggestion as the Nguni, as a whole, were a formidable force in central and southern Africa.
The other group is the Sotho-Tswana, which includes the Tswana, Pedi and Basotho. (This is the northern South Africa groups, inlcuding Lesotho and - I think - Botswana).
My two cents. :)
CivArmy s. 1994 Nov 19, 2005, 03:58 PM Wyz, thanks for the list and the new information! I think the best option is a civ to represent all the civis of that region, so, I think it could be great join Nguni and the others. If I have to change the civ name cos this join, no problem ;)
Supa Nov 19, 2005, 04:42 PM About the XML, I discovered you could probably do your own custom XML for every big groups, like Jecrell did with the txt xml group in his Carthage mod. That way, it would be very easy to fuse multiples civs mod together. =)
Edit: I'm testing right now. Doesn't go so well as I thought it would.
LAnkou Nov 19, 2005, 04:49 PM while i was adding your civs to Superciv, i take the initiative to group yours in a brazil pack since you said you wanted to do that for a scenario
Everything is in the general place you put them in, texts are grouped in one file (like Jecrell describe), the only major changes i've done are:
-creation of color settings instead of taking the place of an existing one (Playercolor_yellow->playercolor_brazil_yellow). You can find them at the end of the file
-i erased the mention of atlas for civ arts, since it isn't necessary (and could be problematic with them)
you can fully take my work (or the compilation of YOUR work, precisely) or do it yourself, as you want...
download it here
http://www.filegone.com/vinu
hope it helps

it could be a great tip to join the civis, but I've done the work this afternoon before I read this, the files r already on CFC server, I'm just waiting TF give to me the file link :)
I'll use the tips next mods.
CivArmy s. 1994 Nov 19, 2005, 06:08 PM Well, in your mod you have...

CIV4GameText_Civiliopedia_CivLeaders.xml

I've checked your file and met the stuff necessary for: Objetcs, Civleaders and altered diplomacy file, but I didn't find any stuff necessary for cities, units and strategy. where did u insert them?
BTW, I used your team color tip, the first civ mine that cames with this tip is Babylonians, civ that I'm confing while checking your compressed XLM file :)
Wyz_sub10 Nov 19, 2005, 07:55 PM Wyz, thanks for the list and the new information! I think the best option is a civ to represent all the civis of that region, so, I think it could be great join Nguni and the others. If I have to change the civ name cos this join, no problem ;)
I'll edit the list to include the Nguni tribes, and I'll pitch a few leader suggestions for your review.
CivArmy s. 1994 Nov 20, 2005, 04:51 AM I'll edit the list to include the Nguni tribes, and I'll pitch a few leader suggestions for your review.
please, do that. I must learn how to edit the Great People stuff and uses your leader list for this.
BTW, should I change the civ name since it isn't Zulu exclusive no more? in acse yes, what name?
Wyz_sub10 Nov 20, 2005, 12:48 PM please, do that. I must learn how to edit the Great People stuff and uses your leader list for this.
BTW, should I change the civ name since it isn't Zulu exclusive no more? in acse yes, what name?
I'll put together the city list, leader info, and Civpedia entries for you. I'll likely finish it tonight and send it your way.
For civ name, Nguni would be correct.
Wyz_sub10 Nov 20, 2005, 03:42 PM Okay, here is my info on the Nguni. The zip file contains 3 small text files -
1) Nguni civilipedia entry
2) Nguni leader bios
3) Nguni city list
Two notes:
- there are 4 leaders included for your consideration. All 4 would be great. :) Shaka is basically a given, but Cetshwayo should be there for his role in the Anglo-Zulu War, and there are two non-Zulu leaders: Mnguni - the "father" of all Nguni who began the migration from the Great Zimbabwe, and Nelson Mandela - a great modern leader of the Xhosa group.
- the city list is a mix of modern cities of Nguni peoples and older cities from the tribal empires. Both Pretoria and Durban are included using the Zulu names.
Let me know if you have any edits or need further assistance.
Jecrell Nov 20, 2005, 05:29 PM Jecrell > How did you to put all yours modifs in one XML ? Does the game automaticly load all XMLs from the XML subfolder ?
Edit: Ah, you were talking about the GAMETXT XMLs. I'm wondering if it could work for all others XML entries.
I've tried -- it doesn't work with the other XML files. Apparently the Text XML file was designed with a different idea in mind.

BaneBlade Nov 23, 2005, 05:21 AM Thanks Civarmy, looks great!
One thing that bugs me though: I only know about the time in Zulu-history when Shaka carved out his empire, though what i know about speaks strictly against the expansivetrait. The man completely destroyed traditional structues in such a way(extreme militarism, mans were introduced in a kind of youtharmy and were later living with their comrades instead their familys)that the population dropped notably in just one generation. But maybe Wyz_sub10 can tell more of the subject cause he seems to have a much broader knowledge about this civ. I would suggest give him Ind. instead of expansive, cause he had nearly godlike emperorstatus and his people would do everything he wanted, even die on his whims.

I choice "expansive", cos the its thread in Civ3 was "expansionist". But no problem to change it for industrious if more people want this ;) :)
Head Serf Nov 23, 2005, 12:57 PM Wow, this looks fantastic! Hopefully someone will use this for a scenario or something. I love Africa scenarios.
CivArmy s. 1994 Nov 26, 2005, 09:51 AM As I promissed:
- I changed the civ name to Nguni
- I changed the city list
- I changed the flag
- I changed the civ's and leader's civilopedia entry
Thanks to Wyz_sub10 for all the new text stuff :D
New images on post number 01.

The short answer is that the civ is supposed to represent the Nguni, as a whole, so it makes sense to include expansive, considering their expansion as a collection of peoples over that region of the world.
But directly for Shaka, I would argue that expansive works as he was the one to ally with some of the neighbouring tribes to create stronger alliances. True, he initiated a series of campaigns that caused hardship (many of these campaigns being abject failures). But that practice was entrentched prior to his becoming leader - he simply continued to carry it out.
BRoska Feb 13, 2006, 05:43 PM I have never figured out how you create a custom civilization, on CIV IV, I know how (not the picture or units) on Civ III, but not CIV IV. Could somebody educate me?
fazzl Mar 29, 2006, 05:36 AM Is it possible that the link for downloading doesnt work anymore?
Wyz_sub10 Mar 29, 2006, 08:22 AM Is it possible that the link for downloading doesnt work anymore?
Some file servers remove the file if not downloaded in 30 days. Mattastic has a Zulu civ for download and I have one in my Out of Arfica packs that incorporates some of CivArmy's work and Mattastic's work.
But if you wait a few days, you may be quite happy with another option. :)

It worked with me minutes ago, maybe the server was out for a moment when u tried to download the file :)

Ooops...I just re-read this today and I realize that it sounds bad. I'm not trying to dissuade you from downloading this - I was only saying that if it was no longer available, then try another.
But if this download link is still up, it's a great civ.
fazzl Mar 30, 2006, 10:12 AM Thx! Must have been a current problem. It worked fine for me now.
btw: sorry for my english, i am just a german english "noob".

Our developing team is currently working on the Afrikaners. Maybe some one can develop an African or South African campaign, when we are finished. ;)
adamamri Apr 14, 2006, 01:11 PM hello, I have a question. As I put the flag in my mods, it appears yellow in the play. This situation is it normal?
Thank
As an information, I have changed the file art and the error does not come from over there.
