View Full Version : MOST OVER rated game ever!!!!
capnahdharr Nov 23, 2005, 06:27 PM Be free to bash any game you want just dont dirty up the thread, thanks!
(even games outside of electronics!!! :goodjob:)
I say out of video game context the Ugigo or whatever it is my cousin plays...
everyone knows what card-game owns all others and is owed a debt by them,
The FIRST! THE ORIGINAL! THE BEST SELLING NON BOARD GAME GAMING SERIES EVER!MAGIC: THE GATHERING!!!
I mean come on, what other game or card game can you sell a small peice of cardboard named "Black Lotus" for $38,000 USD??? Seriously, what game can beat that? :p
Alright, game bashers. On your mark, get set, GO!
RoboPig Nov 23, 2005, 06:31 PM Halo and Halo 2. god, they are so hyped and stupid. wow, i can walk around with a gun and kill aliens! this is so unique. it isnt like a trillion other games!
capnahdharr Nov 23, 2005, 06:35 PM i was hoping not to get mutilated if i said that, *you've got more guts as me!* as they say... :goodjob:
RoboPig Nov 23, 2005, 06:37 PM thanks, i really hate halo though. i wish it would burn
capnahdharr Nov 23, 2005, 06:41 PM In reply to response, "DON'T WE ALL"
The guys at school drive me nuts! When Halo 2 came out in Wisconsin, probably half the guys I know who didn't yet have an X-Box bought one just to use it!! Sad, when over half would've been saved for XBOX 360, which I'd rather wait to see how PS3 goes!!!
Edit: I see there are almost 20 views, dont be shy, bash my opinions, and voice your own its an open forum!!!
Kan' Sharuminar Nov 23, 2005, 07:49 PM I'd second Halo. They're fun to play on split-screen with some friends, but I don't see anything particularly amazing. Doesn't help I have a couple of friends who keep on going on about it. So in a word, "over-hyped"
Capnahdharr, may I request you stop with the large letters, it hurts my head :p
capnahdharr Nov 23, 2005, 07:53 PM Sure, i just get real excited about games I.E. im trying to make them by hardcoding, (uber-simplistic though), *Changed Text sizes!*
Hopefully more people will add things other than Halo, I'd enjoy variety... anyone?
Kan' Sharuminar Nov 23, 2005, 07:58 PM Meh, there are a lot of over-hyped games out there. There will probably be several surprise suggestions to come as well. Some people mistake 'overhyped' with 'games I don't like that much.'
Nobody Nov 23, 2005, 11:33 PM Civilizations, the whole seris inparticular civ2, cleary the worst.
Ultima Dragoon Nov 24, 2005, 12:38 AM Civilizations, the whole seris inparticular civ2, cleary the worst.
Get out of here.
Stylesjl Nov 24, 2005, 12:41 AM Civilizations, the whole seris inparticular civ2, cleary the worst.
Might i ask what your doing here and why an angry mob hasn't chased you out of here?
Kan' Sharuminar Nov 24, 2005, 03:30 AM Because he's joking?
capnahdharr Nov 24, 2005, 12:08 PM I'd hope so, due to him (or her) having over 2k posts on the forums here... :crazyeye:
FriendlyFire Nov 24, 2005, 05:21 PM Final Fantasy 7
(most overrated game ever)
Kozmos Nov 24, 2005, 05:47 PM Halo....you walk around and kill aliens,oh and your health regenerates how unique.
Volum Nov 25, 2005, 08:01 AM Final Fantasy 7

I expect Lord Draegon here shortly to explain why youre wrong
capnahdharr Nov 25, 2005, 11:48 AM *smacks FriendlyFire on the back of the head*
Knyx Nov 25, 2005, 03:01 PM World of Warcraft definetely. The sad part is, I doubt there are many who realize why.
Chukchi Husky Nov 25, 2005, 03:11 PM Halo and Halo 2. I can't understand how people think of these as the greatest, most perfect games ever made.
Strider Nov 25, 2005, 03:15 PM I'm going with Halo and Halo 2 also.
Lozzy_Ozzy Nov 25, 2005, 03:34 PM Halo and Halo 2 for the current generation.
FF VII is pretty overrated, definately not the best FF ever, but I would hardly say the most overrated game ever. Its still and awesome game.
Tank_Guy#3 Nov 25, 2005, 03:42 PM I would have to say the entire Final Fantasy series.
Maniacal Nov 26, 2005, 05:35 PM The pokemon games were overated.
777 Nov 27, 2005, 03:47 AM Because he's joking?
There are no room for jokes if it cosiders about Civ2
I think World of Warcraft is pretty overrated. I tried with my friend's CDs and he gave me 10 day free trial account. Ok I tested it few days and didn't find much of interesting there. Ok I go to wack some mosnters earn xp and gold, do that certain time and afterall all what I do is I repeat same formula. Perhaps is just that I'm not so much into online-RPGs.
I prefer more TOEE type RPGs :)
Maniacal Nov 27, 2005, 01:28 PM What does TOEE stand for?
ANd I bet I WOULD like WOW, as it is I'm playing KNight Online (because it's free mostly) and I played RuneScape 1 for a year and a bit but finaly tired of it soon after RS2 was fully released.
I am starting to hate and despise the hyp and animated not in that game graphics they add to marketing schemes, it's more or less that same crap everytime.
odintheking Nov 27, 2005, 03:46 PM Halo and Halo 2. They were boring. I've only played GTA in the multimode, and from what I've played it kinda sucks.
Rising Sun Nov 27, 2005, 06:04 PM Watchout that pickle gonna eat us!!!
capnahdharr Nov 29, 2005, 10:14 AM I would have to say the entire Final Fantasy series.
 Wait, you mean the entire FF series??? I agree that a few of them are overrated, but some like FF1, FF5, and FF7 are definately not, due to owning copies of all of them through FFX-2 (which was a "little" overrated )
But what I don't get why people pay so much for a game that you really cant "win". Examples: WOW, Everquest...(way too many Everquest games), I don't know, but maybe if they improved Runescape's graphics more people would play... I.E. its all polygon graphilcs (not "3D" like most high end games are...)
Shylock Nov 29, 2005, 05:08 PM Halo et al.
Played the demo for 1 on PC, typical shooter, pass.
Played 2 on the Xbox at school. While I enjoy the competition it wasnt any different from any other shooter.
leonel Nov 29, 2005, 06:18 PM Halo.
Racing games in which you customize your cars to be over the top urban street racers. Oh wow you're such a rebel! Look at me! I'm driving 100mph in a residential zone! Screw what the Man thinks about my wild and reckless ways! Oh yeah! Endangering the lives of men, women and children pedestrians is so going to make me famous in a field of interest that no one gives two flying fornications over! And if they get in my way, **** them because I'm only after my own adrenaline needs and other racers cars because I'm such a greedy b******!
And sports games. What the heck! I remember seeing an advertisement that was counting down to the release of another installment of Madden football 2003 or something. WOOHOO yet another video game about the same game that thousands of other video games have done since the invention of the microprocessor! Somehow updated sports statistics and slightly retouched graphics are worth $50 a piece!
So to conclude in the order of least hate to most hate;
Halo, Sports games, Street Racing games.
What?... not the most hated game thread?... most over rated game thread?... repeating everything you whisper to me makes me look even more foolish?
Kan' Sharuminar Nov 29, 2005, 06:25 PM Halo.

I don't like said games either, but are you aware that it is actually a game, and that the little computerised pedestrians and rival cars aren't actually real...therefore no endangering of lives.
It's like complaining that launching a nuke in Civ is going to cause the deaths of thousands of people...as they're not real!
madviking Nov 29, 2005, 06:35 PM Final Fanasy
AoE series
Any sports game
DBear Nov 29, 2005, 06:35 PM @PrinceScamp--ToEE is Temple of Elemental Evil, which if I recall was horribly buggy when it came out and support was minimal. I can still find it at Wal-Mart for $10, so it might be worth a look if properly patched.
puglover Nov 29, 2005, 09:20 PM Whoa. Seems everyone hates Halo. I disagree. It may not be unique, but it's still great fun. Halo 2 is probably overrated though.
Empire Earth 2 is overrated. It was a junky game. Wow, the same old Empire Earth except the snow blocks the screen.
leonel Nov 30, 2005, 02:42 PM I don't like said games either, but are you aware that it is actually a game, and that the little computerised pedestrians and rival cars aren't actually real...therefore no endangering of lives.

I guess you got a point. I guess I sort of lapsed from my opinion on street racing games and actual street racing itself.
metal fatigue Nov 30, 2005, 04:21 PM Final Fantasy 7
(most overrated game ever)
Lemme guess you've had a go on a mates game and done the bit at the start in the reactors. Cos otherwise you've got a serious problem to not like one of the best games of one of the best series ever.
homeyg Nov 30, 2005, 09:07 PM World of Warcraft definetely. The sad part is, I doubt there are many who realize why.
Yeah World of Warcraft sucks - and I hate when people pronounce it as 'wow'.
As for me, I'd say that basically all RTS and/or RPG games are overrated especially AoE.
Might I also add Halo (even though I've never played it and only seen someone else play it once, it's definitely talked about too much).
777 Dec 02, 2005, 03:00 PM What does TOEE stand for?
TOEE means Temple of Elemental Evil D&D RPG by Atari :)
Oblivious Dec 02, 2005, 07:38 PM I'm with everybody else on the Halo series. It doesn't suck, but they really aren't anything terribly unique in the FPS genre. I'll take Battlefield 1942 or BF2 over Halo any day.
The game I'll bring to the table is Half Life 2. I like it, and it has some really good graphics and an OK storyline, but I didn't find it worthy of all the hype. If it could be considered on it's own merit (if there had never been a Half-Life 1), HL2 would be just another good FPS game, but nothing earth shattering. The physics engine can only hold your interest for so long. And don't even let me get started on Steam.
FriendlyFire Dec 03, 2005, 01:40 AM Lemme guess you've had a go on a mates game and done the bit at the start in the reactors. Cos otherwise you've got a serious problem to not like one of the best games of one of the best series ever.
I think i cleared the first disk. Got the chocobo
I did finnish FFIX after playing it for almost four months.
Now Secret of Mana, Front Mission2 they were the real square masterpieces
Kozmos Dec 03, 2005, 05:29 AM Did you play Front mission 3?I still play time from time, seeing a ROFUP III activate just warms up my heart :)
FriendlyFire Dec 04, 2005, 01:49 AM Did you play Front mission 3?I still play time from time, seeing a ROFUP III activate just warms up my heart :)
I like using the "baseball bat" :D
Babbler Dec 04, 2005, 02:24 AM Most fighting games (expect for Soul Calibur, and especially Dead Or Alive). It just the same thing over and over. I guess I more annoy by these games because my brother LOVES them, playing them over and over agian.
Abaddon Dec 06, 2005, 04:19 AM Final Fantasy 7
(most overrated game ever)
No, FF7 doesnt get the worship it deserves! easily best RPG ever.
tommy_toon Dec 06, 2005, 11:59 PM The first two games that come to mind are any of The Sims series and Gunbound. The Sims because they've so overworked it's use, they have how many expansions now? And Gunbound because hearing all my friends talk about it, Ugh!
Edit: And Neopets!!!!!
Abaddon Dec 07, 2005, 03:03 AM sure people gripe at the sims because it was so damned popular- but i wouldnt say it got overrated. Also im quite confused as to how having a lot of X-packs reflects that?
covok48 Dec 07, 2005, 03:16 AM I'd have to say (back in the day) C&C Red Alert
Same physics/ graphics engine with one extra tileset, same units recycled on different sides, same actors in cutscenes, same type of missions in the campaign, same everything of the exact same game that was released a year before yet people went gaga over this and the subseqent sequels. Never fully understood why.
I also feel the same way about Halo. I came to this conclusion when one of my buddies hailed Halo as "the most perfect game ever". Of course he's a guy who's never played anything that that's a console game, and just happens to be good at Halo while deeming all other games that he's not good at "worthless". I couldn't believe what I was hearing, a run-of-the-mill FPS with ho-hum gameplay as the best game? That's when I knew enough was enough...
Abaddon Dec 07, 2005, 03:24 AM LOL- everyones slating the games i love!
ah well... if anyone read about the ps2 before it came out.. the hype around Dark Cloud was shocking.
Also Black and White 2 got way too much fanfare
Judge_Deadd Dec 07, 2005, 03:40 AM Quake I, the levels are very boring and there's no music.
kittenOFchaos Dec 07, 2005, 04:23 AM Halo - rubbish, looked good in the mags, but the combat was lame, the guns and the reaction of enemies to being shot was just, crap.
World of Warcraft - or any other MMORPG - repitition and no-skill involved. I liked exploring and such, but the combat was poor and respawning monsters just tell you that it is a game, no operating WOLRD there at all. The programmers must be killing themselves with laughter with such a game, the art department worked to buggery.
I know repetitive actions can be fun, but not here...;)
MeteorPunch Dec 13, 2005, 12:04 AM Final Fantasy 7
blasphemy...:D
Half-Life 2.
MeteorPunch Dec 13, 2005, 12:05 AM Quake I, the levels are very boring and there's no music.Trent Reznor did the music for Quake I...
Perfection Dec 13, 2005, 12:12 AM Heh, in forum games most the rating games are over for ever.
Ultima Dragoon Dec 17, 2005, 03:26 AM No, FF7 doesnt get the worship it deserves! easily best RPG ever.
My sentiments exactly.
Viva la Final Fantasy!
Truronian Dec 17, 2005, 10:26 AM Morrowind *runs away*
Didn't like it in any way at all.
Azale Dec 17, 2005, 04:15 PM Fighting games in general are overrated...
Syterion Dec 18, 2005, 10:28 AM GTA. It gets so boring. Yes I played it. Most of it too. I don't get a kick out of committing crime in slightly different ways.
Fighting games. Too formulaic. Give me Super Smash Bros. Melee anyday.
Red Door Dec 18, 2005, 10:37 AM You don't love GTA.
I think everybody under the age of 10 should be allowed to kill hookers, shoots the cops, arm themselves with AKs and RPGs, steal cars, kill 50 people, and not go to jail.
Chukchi Husky Dec 18, 2005, 11:03 AM I don't like GTA.
MjM Dec 18, 2005, 11:05 AM Civilization 4.....
;)
Ultima Dragoon Dec 18, 2005, 03:15 PM Civilization 4.....
;)
Don't even try it....
Cardea Dec 18, 2005, 05:43 PM I thought Fable was over-rated.
It was hyped for so long and I waited forever... for nothing.
azzaman333 Dec 19, 2005, 03:06 AM AoE 3. no where near as good as the previous versions. All these reviews are saying "Its great" but its average at best.
deo Dec 19, 2005, 08:06 AM Warcraft, World of warcraft.
Shylock Dec 21, 2005, 01:31 PM Empire Earth 2: PC Gamer calls it the new "RTS daddy" and gave it 95 or summat. I call it the same EE with a prettier and laggier graphics engine
Anything by Blizzard: Starcraft was boring, Warcraft 3 et al was boring, Diablo 2 never wanted to work.
The Sims 2: Got it last year at Christmas (hey, almost a year ago). Bored me after a week or so, and I played Rome Total War happily in its stead. The ex pack didnt help the situation either.
Doom 3: Pretty, but not scary.
FEAR: Laggy, not scary.
deo Dec 22, 2005, 06:04 AM Empire Earth 2: PC Gamer calls it the new "RTS daddy" and gave it 95 or summat. I call it the same EE with a prettier and laggier graphics engine
I have to agree, such a rubbish game and AoE ( 2 ) is the RTS daddy.
Volum Dec 22, 2005, 01:50 PM FEAR: Laggy, not scary.
Never lagged for me, and i tought it was scary as hell:eek:
sealboy6 Dec 23, 2005, 12:47 AM See. I think halo 2 is definitely not overrated.
1. It sold a system.
2. It is one of the best rated games of all time.
3. It was talked about like crazy, which means overhyping, but in its case, it means it really is a good game.
Halo 2 redefined console online play (wait, did it ever have online?), and redefined the shooter. It is probably the most polished game ever, leaving nothing behind, and has a great assortment of everything needed: weapons, vehicles, A.I., and gametypes to name a few. The game is probably talked about a bit too much, but I can't really say that I'd rather do anything else when I have a few friends over and we want to play a game together.
Final Fantasy 7. Also sold a system. It defined 3-D games and special effects in games. People were astounded by the looks of the game. It's like the original Star Wars. High on fluff, like music and effects, even though the story and the other parts may be lacking. The original star wars clearly isn't overrated, unless I'm really missing something.
Both games are really good games, and even though people here are PC gamers, don't diss those games because you don't like that it gets more attention than your beloved Civ games. Civ games are good, I'll even say some of my favorites, but Halo 2 and Final Fantasy VII are just as good.
King Flevance Dec 24, 2005, 04:50 PM I also love Halo 2. Its MP alone makes it not overrated IMO.
I hate to be that guy, but Civ 4 is my honest response here. I have played it for a month and just dont see where all the good reviews come from. I am not trolling. I don't hate Civ I just think 4 gets more good reviews based off of graphics mixed with a reviewers small amount of time to play it. Over time, for me, this game just gets dull and reptative more than any other CIV as it stands.
That said, I do hold hope for expansions and patches to improve. But until I see it, this game is my 'most overrated'.
If you hate me for saying so, it still doesnt make it not my opinion.
Here are some others though as well:
Crash Bandicoot
Majesty (A King with little control over his army? C'mon)
Myst 2 and up.
FFXI Online. (A vast world to explore, btw you cant jump. A pet pieve to me is saying that a 1 foot tall rock is blocking me and I cant jump over it. Poor environment design)
Burnout series. (except the "biggest crash" part, but that cant compensate a whole game.)
EuropeanFury Dec 25, 2005, 04:41 PM Killzone for PS2... was supposed to be the PS2's equivelent to Halo(not a big fan of it myself, but still is pretty fun)
Game ended up sucking total you-know-what. The new Brothers in Arms game is pretty crappy as well.
jafink Dec 25, 2005, 09:13 PM Solitare. I mean it comes with every windows operating system...
Phlegmak Jan 04, 2006, 11:36 AM I'd have to go with Quake 2. There are an enormous number of people who called it "arguably the best game ever made." What? Are they on crack? I just don't see it. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm saying it's overrated. Which it is.
Phlegmak Jan 04, 2006, 11:38 AM Oh yeah, I can't forget Resident Evil or Tomb Raider. I watched my brother play both. Resident Evil just plain sucked. Tomb Raider was pretty, but I don't think it was great.
BCLG100 Jan 04, 2006, 06:24 PM Halo and Halo 2. I can't understand how people think of these as the greatest, most perfect games ever made.
Yep there alright but hardly life changing
odintheking Jan 04, 2006, 07:31 PM Yeah, Halo and Halo 2 were overhyped. Halo sold a system, but that doesn't necissarily mean it is an awesome game. Sure, they are fun, but I can name at least 5 multiplayer games that I enjoy playing more. They hardly added anything to the genre that wasn't already there. And there were dissapointments, (can anyone say "two-weapon" mode?). I wouldn't be so hard on it if it wasn't so hyped, though.
Martacus Jan 04, 2006, 07:39 PM I'm going to go out on a limb and say Metal Gear Solid. I like it and all; but the thing is that it isn't really as innovative as it has been made out to be. There are too many things in the game that were simply ripped straight from Metal Gear 2, gameplay-wise. Specifically, the race up the tower and having to fight four tougher-than-usual soldiers while trapped in an elevator. And this was also the game where the series started taking a turn toward the absurd, both in terms of plot and boss villains. Mind control? RUNNING while both firing a helicopter-sized minigun and carrying approximtely 500 lbs of equipment on one's back? A blond-haired, green-eyed Kurdish woman who doesn't zip up her jumpsuit when she's in ALASKA, for God's sake? Not to mention who thinks she's a dog in a fairly literal sense? And of course the ridiculous eugenics-and-genetic engineering subplot.
The only things out of whack in the original two games were, as far as I can remember, two bosses from the second game (a teleporting ninja and an invisible guy with a machine gun), and of course the fact that the last boss's existence means he survived a nuclear explosion at the end of the first one.
Underdawg Jan 04, 2006, 08:38 PM I'd just like to say that these are people opinions and anyone else redign this thread should view it as so. It should not be offensive to anyone even if you disagree, which you have the freedom to.
As for my $0.02, I would definitely have to say Fable. Come on, It is so linear, though there are linear games that are good. They said you could do anything and your choices would "really" affect your character. Yeah right. No wonder I didn't buy it. Now as for the guy who said Morrowind  ;) :mischief:
Now the FF series I totally don't like just because they never draw me in but I say especially FF7 is really really really good. :crazyeye: But I still don't like it. :p Something with the plot and characters turns me off (Or maybe cuz its on a Playstation console :) )
Kozmos Jan 04, 2006, 09:50 PM I'm going to go out on a limb and say Metal Gear Solid. I like it and all; but the thing is that it isn't really as innovative as it has been made out to be. Of course the game's a bit whacky, its made by japanese people :p

Starcraft is pretty awesome, when you get into it.
Agree with Halo 2 and San Andreas.
But FF... those games are AWESOME. It takes a bit of getting into though... Everyone that I know that put the effort into it thinks that they are amazing.
diablodelmar Feb 07, 2006, 01:45 PM half life 2. it has a very small range of appeal. Everyone says its so awesome but the only real good thing about it is the graphics.
sure it was a decent game, but it was way too hyped up...
Oruc Feb 07, 2006, 08:10 PM Starcraft is pretty awesome, when you get into it.
I played the game when it was kinda old, so it always seems subpar to me

Well I could never get into them, Lotsa people say they are really good but for me they just werent

sealboy6 Feb 07, 2006, 09:53 PM Battlefield 2 for PS2 it doesnt even have skirmish like the original.
See. A game has to be rated well for it to be overrated. Battlefield 2 on ps2 wasn't, so it can't be overrated.
The most overrated game, I think, would have to be Half Life 2. It looked fantastic, but it didn't have that quality that made me want to play more. Just not good enough.
MjM Feb 07, 2006, 09:55 PM Starcraft is cool. What you smoking emo?
^
Also I noticed you quoted me in your sig. Nice job! :goodjob:
Heretic_Cata Feb 08, 2006, 09:43 AM refering to starcraft I played the game when it was kinda old, so it always seems subpar to me
BLASPHEMY - how can you judge a game by it's GRAPHICS. Gameplay and story are ENORMOUSLY more important ...
I am not saying we should all start playing only pre'90s stuff but to say starcraft has bad graphics :shakehead you don't know what bad/old graphics is my friend ...
You should be punished :satan: - 1 week playing ONLY text-based games should do the trick

I didnt even mention graphics in my post, I said I played it when it was old and because it was old when I played it I would have judged it agaisnt newer games which have improved upon the genre.
EDIT: well didnt say exactly that but that what i meant
Haarbal Feb 08, 2006, 05:28 PM Never lagged for me, and i tought it was scary as hell:eek:
well, i wouldn't refer to it as scary, but it definitly gave me some adrenaline rushes :)
conquer_dude Feb 08, 2006, 08:23 PM See. A game has to be rated well for it to be overrated. Battlefield 2 on ps2 wasn't, so it can't be overrated.
The most overrated game, I think, would have to be Half Life 2. It looked fantastic, but it didn't have that quality that made me want to play more. Just not good enough.
Oh it wasnt? I thought it got good ratings (not that I looked to see or anything)
RameNoodle Feb 08, 2006, 11:57 PM Most overrated game ever has to be warcraft three. I played it once, and I swore to never play it again. It was so boring, and I really didn't care what the hell happened to any of the characters. It sucked.
Heretic_Cata Feb 09, 2006, 01:42 AM I didnt even mention graphics in my post, I said I played it when it was old and because it was old when I played it I would have judged it agaisnt newer games which have improved upon the genre.

Well that is preety much the same story with how old it is ... you must still be punished

You're so wrong. That game is so amazing. The online is great, as the different gametypes that people have created rock, and the ranked matches are excellent. Each race plays differently, and as usual, blizzard has created a good story. Excellent game.
Dr. Yoshi Feb 12, 2006, 11:29 PM Any 2D fighting game on the Dreamcast. That controller is evil I tell you! Evil!
puglover Feb 13, 2006, 02:31 PM Nationstates is way overrated. It's repetitive even for a free online game.
Thisnameislame Feb 14, 2006, 09:50 PM Need for Speed Underground 2 seems overrated, although I can't really judge becuase I've only played a demo, but from everything I can tell it seems pretty bad compared to Hot Pursuit 2 or Most Wanted.
Heretic_Cata Feb 15, 2006, 01:47 AM Need for Speed Underground 2 is overrated by GAMERS, in the magazines i looked it was rated mediocre.
CornMaster Feb 17, 2006, 10:06 PM Myst
Diakatana (probably spelled wrong)
I actually like Halo...but at the same time...I don't understand the hype around it.
Heretic_Cata Feb 18, 2006, 03:56 AM Diakatana (probably spelled wrong)
Dikatana (probably spelled wrong also ) was EXTREMELY badly rated ... i didn't even play it because every magasine said it SUCKED.
But you are probably reffering to the previews - before the release ... they called the game revolutionary and bla bla , the best game in known history. Those were just previews ...
azzaman333 Feb 18, 2006, 05:27 AM Civ 4. Its not really that good. Its always rated 9+/10, when i would give it a 6 at best.
Silverflame Feb 25, 2006, 10:43 AM I didnt even mention graphics in my post, I said I played it when it was old and because it was old when I played it I would have judged it agaisnt newer games which have improved upon the genre.

While it definitely looks like that at first, especially if you've played some of the most recent RTS's, Starcraft has aged incredibly well. If you actually get into it, you'll find that the game mechanics play perfectly. New strategies are still being discovered as the game is still played extremely competitively today, nearly 8 years after its initial release. It's literally the national sport of South Korea. You'd think I'm joking, but I'm not. :)
sealboy6 Feb 27, 2006, 09:42 AM Civ 4. Its not really that good. Its always rated 9+/10, when i would give it a 6 at best.
Blasphemy!
Leif Feb 27, 2006, 10:22 AM Counter-Strike tends to be over-rated, Diablo 2 was over hyped IMHO, EE2 (Empire Earth2) was hyper-lame, racing games don't deserve but I think the grand daddy of over-rated games is the Halo series... Halo one had a leigon of loyal fans, yet I have always thought it's wonderful reputation was clearly undeserved.. One or two shots with the pistol (the best gun in the game) could kill anyone! Halo 2 had little improvements over the original, merely graphics, the gameplay still lagged behind.
diablodelmar Feb 27, 2006, 11:42 AM [QUOTE=Leif]Counter-Strike tends to be over-rated,QUOTE]
I agree with this, counter strike was good, but there (were) are so many better games out. Plus I tend to pity these people who go absolutely crazy over it.
Heretic_Cata Feb 27, 2006, 12:19 PM Yup i said that too. :agree:
BirraImperial Mar 01, 2006, 11:43 AM Doom 3: Pretty, but not scary.
Not scary? Try playing it at 1am in the morning, with the volume all the way up.
Kan' Sharuminar Mar 01, 2006, 11:47 AM Not scary? Try playing it at 1am in the morning, with the volume all the way up.
Admitadly I haven't played Doom 3 yet, but I doubt anything can be scarier than Alien vs Predator in the middle of the night :p
Heretic_Cata Mar 01, 2006, 12:17 PM Admitadly I haven't played Doom 3 yet, but I doubt anything can be scarier than Alien vs Predator in the middle of the night :p
Actually i found AvP to be preety boring. I haven't played Doom3.
But Clive Barker's Undying is the scariest at ANY hour, daylight can't protect you :satan:.
GeorgeOP Mar 01, 2006, 04:00 PM I didn't like Halo that much, but then I'm not really into FPSes. So I usually give it a pass.
I like sports games, but I dislike that they release a new one after a year with little improvement. I'll just wait every couple of years to get my new roster and get a group of improvements at a time.
FF is overrated. Enix's Dragon Warrior/Quest series was always more fun for me. I'll grant FF the graphics, but I don't care that much about graphics in a turn-based RPG.
Any action RPG. It's not much of a stat game/RPG if there is button mashing.
Any game that recieves a high rating for it's multiplayer. The only games I've liked to play that ranked better in multiplayer than single player were for the GameCube.
Non-electronic, I dislike any board game that involves mostly random chance and zero tactics. I'd rather spend my time writing a program for my graphics calculator that will just figure out who won the game than actually playing the game. My problem comes in that I buy $50 board games with over 200 pieces and I most of my friends think Stratego is too much thinking and not enough fun. One of those board games is Civilization: The Board Game, of course.;)
777 Mar 02, 2006, 04:14 AM Counter-Strike tends to be over-rated
Well I think that at the time when Counter-Strike came it was quite fantastic work for mod which got very popular. And remember that is/was MOD! That makes it perhaps legend.
But of course it can't anymore beat other online shooters since there are so much better games, like Battlefield 2 for example.
Marmoset Mar 03, 2006, 01:33 PM Doom 3 is definitely very overrated. But you can't tell me it's not scary at certain points!
The main problem is they basically made 1 level, copied it 25 times, and called it a game with 25 levels.
