View Full Version : Anti-SDI tech
Willowmound Nov 25, 2005, 07:50 PM I've been thinking about adding a new technology at the very end of the tech tree that would drastically reduce the chance of your nukes being intercepted by enemy SDI defences, sort of an anti-SDI tech (think satellites with guns). My problem, however, is that I can't seem to find a way to make a tech do this. What I want is to have the effectiveness of enemy SDI reduced to maybe just 20% for civs who have this new tech, but stay at 75% for everyone else.
Is this at all possible? Any ideas?
I realise this might prove a lot of fuss over a tech that would come so late in the game it would rarely be used. However, I'd like to see such a tech there anyway, as it could do interesting things for last ditch desperate assaults on the finishing line...
BaneBlade Nov 25, 2005, 09:30 PM Already someone working on a NuclearMOD, maybe u could team with him?
Real nuclear arsenal mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=143107)
Willowmound Nov 26, 2005, 12:52 AM Thanks, I'll have a look.
Kushan Nov 26, 2005, 01:03 AM Some sort of stealth nuclear missile/bomber?

You mean get the ability to build a new unit that's unaffected by SDI? Interesting. Will have to look into that...
Kushan Nov 26, 2005, 02:19 AM Doesnt SDI only affect missiles? why not create some sort of bomber unit that can fly under the radar (Stealth) to hit its target. If everyone in the wolrd had its own SDI then reverting back to the try and true method of the nuclear bomber is onyl natural.

LittleRedPoint Nov 26, 2005, 05:59 AM This is my aproach to the new nuke mod

In reality the B-2 stealth bomber was developed for carring nukes, so this is the solution. I try to make it. And if i work I'll post the schema and code.
Willowmound Nov 26, 2005, 06:06 AM Great! I'll look into this too when I find the time.
Rodman49 Nov 26, 2005, 11:45 AM Something I haven't seen is shooting nuclear weapons from railguns, since they couldn't be adequately intercepted - especially by an SDI system. An armored ground unit that could shoot a missile maybe 5 or so spaces.

Nuclear cannon? :crazyeye: it may be cool
BaneBlade Nov 27, 2005, 09:34 AM Don't need a railgun for this, NatoArtilleriepieces around 150mm are capable of shooting nukes since decades! Why do i need constant reminding of thinks i already know?!
NuclearMOD, go for it!
An example would be this piece of most modern tech, the german PZH2000, based on a Leopard2, one of the best MBTs in the world.

Hmm, it's even the solution for my Armorspearheads without bombersupport, i'll have this baby ready 'till tomorrow afternoon, RedPoint may include Nukeshells then if he wishes.
LittleRedPoint Nov 27, 2005, 01:31 PM Well i tried to make nuclear bomber, it is a bomber, has nuke button and can nuke enemy city. The problem is if you fire it works as ICBM and not as plane. Thare are 3 special unit types. SPECIALUNIT_NUKE in Civ4SpecialUnitInfo.xml is the only field to describe nukes. It is easy to make diferent type of missiles. I tred to make new special unit "nuclear bomber" and make new EventType like EVENT_AIRNUKE what has similar effect to the city as ICBM does but it must described in CvEnums.h and i can't find it. So can everione help me? Has anybody find out how the unit animations work and are described in game? Or can you give some links?
Rodman49 Nov 27, 2005, 01:55 PM Maybe you ought to try to make the airstrike command more like a nuclear strike rather than add a nuclear strike capability to the bomber?
BaneBlade Nov 27, 2005, 02:04 PM Change your windowssettings so that there are no hidden files, search for file. If u dont find it this way, it's surely packed as *.pak or something.
