Early Game Pillage on Tiny/Small Maps is Game-breaking?

Unless your copper mine or iron mine is directly next to your City( or your city and the mine shares the same river ), you can basically hit the "RETIRE" button.

Your enemy can just pillage your road or the mine directly to cut off your supply line, effectively neutralising you.

No solution as of now but rather to depend on luck on the placement and the early scouting.

If your Mine is 5 squares away from your City, are you going to Fortify the whole of the 5 squares of the road & mine with your troops?

You don't need to, if a pillaging group of enemies comes too close, just whack them... Clear out all forests surrounding the mine to reduce defensive bonuses.

If the mine is 5 squares away, build your second city on top of it. Even if the road is cut, you still have 1 city building units.

it's just made that way seriously. if u play RTS and the map is very very small , and somehow he gets to your production line, ofcourse you're toast. what kind of solution do u propose then for turn based ? you can do it to the enemy too and so can he in this sort of map. that's why it's called 'small' maps, it favors early game a lot.
