View Full Version : Assorted MTDG Images
Ginger_Ale Dec 04, 2005, 11:30 AM I was playing around with the GIMP, editing the CFC Moderator, GOTM Staff, and HOF Staff images under their title (http://forums.civfanatics.com/images/ranks/staff_moderator.gif). So I decided to create some with a bit more of a MTDG flavor - there are 5 (well, 6). There is 1 for the staff, 1 for each team, with Team Doughnut getting two - their name was too long to fit alongside "Team", so they have "Donut" and "Doughnut". I made them 70 x 15 so if you want you could place it at the bottom of your 70 x 70 avatar, that would be kind of cool, I guess. :goodjob:

ybbor Dec 04, 2005, 11:46 AM I was playing around with the GIMP, editing the CFC Moderator, GOTM Staff, and HOF Staff images under their title...
you could have just used the button maker (http://www.kalsey.com/tools/buttonmaker/)
Ginger_Ale Dec 04, 2005, 12:36 PM Wow, never knew about that site - so that's where they were made. Anyway, I had some fun doing it ... didn't take too much time.
RegentMan Dec 04, 2005, 01:26 PM Wow great stuff Ginger. I wouldn't mind wearing one. :)
Ginger_Ale Dec 04, 2005, 02:30 PM Found more free time, not sure if this logo is actually useful or not. The font I used, Forte, has some sortof weird "I"s, so it came across as a J. It is an I though...

RegentMan Dec 04, 2005, 07:29 PM It's a soft j. ;)
Ginger_Ale Dec 05, 2005, 06:10 AM In case you didn't see, I just did a trial of an avatar:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/ga.gif
(I put it at the bottom because it didn't cover up as much text..)
Looks pretty cool.
RegentMan Dec 05, 2005, 08:56 AM It does indeed look pretty cool. If you could put it with my avatar, I'd switch to it. But would we be allowed to, as that's an official badge of sorts?
donsig Dec 05, 2005, 01:54 PM What, do we need permission? See my avatar...
Alphawolf Dec 05, 2005, 02:03 PM Here a dumb question: how do you add the sticker/ button thingy?
And can I add it to my avatar or do I have to have a custom one?
-the Wolf
Ginger_Ale Dec 05, 2005, 02:36 PM You can add it to your avatar by saving your current avatar to your hard drive, adding the button overlay, and then reuploading the avatar.
If you want, I'll do it for you (and RegentMan) - specify if you want Doughnut or Donut.
RM: I doubt we need permission, I'll just ask TF anyway I guess...as long as they go in our avatar.
Ginger_Ale Dec 05, 2005, 04:00 PM Ok, I have done Alphawolf's and RegentMan's. Alphawolf: your avatar, since it's a Civ4 one, was 80 x 80, so I got "Doughnut" in without it being squished like my 70x15 one. I would just wait until TF responds to my PM to switch...
Alphawolf

RegentMan

And both are under 4 KB, so they will work as avatars. If I were you, I'd just back up my old avatar when you want to switch back. If anyone else wants one, just ask..
Daghdha Dec 05, 2005, 04:04 PM I think it looks nice :goodjob:
Furiey Dec 05, 2005, 06:28 PM You may have to resize Alphawolf's as his avatar is the larger size only allowed to some of the standard Civ 4 avatars and Moderators (80 x 80). When you upload it, it will be too large in dimensions and will have to be the standard avatar size (70 x 70) ie: slightly smaller.
Ginger_Ale Dec 05, 2005, 06:41 PM Yeah, I guess I got confused, thinking his avatar was still a Civ4 one from the gallery in terms of size. New one has been edited in that post.
Daghdha: Indeed, it looks great. Fits in well.
Alphawolf Dec 05, 2005, 07:08 PM Thanks Ginger Ale.

RegentMan Dec 05, 2005, 07:16 PM Many thanks my dear friend.
Ginger_Ale Dec 05, 2005, 07:49 PM Look how snazzy we all appear. ;)
Whomp Dec 05, 2005, 09:39 PM Cool! I want one. I want one. Can we let our interior decorator Mistfit take care of all of us?
Ginger_Ale Dec 06, 2005, 06:05 AM Sure, he can take all the workload and make life easy for me. :P
RegentMan Dec 06, 2005, 08:52 AM With the new [civ4] smilie, how about we get ourselves a [MTDG] smilie?
IroquoisPlisken Dec 06, 2005, 06:29 PM Hmm, saving as a JPEG made the colors change slightly. Which file type would not have color changes, but still be under 4 KBs? I only have paint, too...
Great job, though, Ginger Ale! :goodjob:
Ginger_Ale Dec 06, 2005, 06:37 PM You can also use PNGs and GIFs, I think.
If you give me the original avatar, I can fix one up for you - I can adjust the quality levels in the GIMP, so I can have it the best quality at exactly 3.9 KBs or 4 KBs - in paint, you can only save it, not adjust the levels. It makes a huge difference.
RegentMan: any particular colors? I'll see what I can come up with...
IroquoisPlisken Dec 06, 2005, 06:43 PM PNGs are WAY too big (like over 12 KBs) and GIFs look much worse.
Here's the original, though:

Thanks for the help. :)
ybbor Dec 06, 2005, 07:00 PM PNGs are WAY too big (like over 12 KBs)
not if you use PNG-8's
Ginger_Ale Dec 06, 2005, 07:30 PM Comparison:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/iroquoisplisken.jpg
A bit better... 3.9 KBs
RegentMan Dec 07, 2005, 12:33 AM RegentMan: any particular colors? I'll see what I can come up with...
Hmmm... does the MTDG really have any specific colors? We could use the teams' colors, but I don't think they'll blend well. Maybe like the Civ III colors of red on tan or gold on tan?
Ginger_Ale Dec 07, 2005, 06:11 AM Sorry guys...
Hi Ginger Ale,
It does look a little confusing, so I don't think it's a good idea.
I would recommend creating a smily or icon size imgae insteas to represent each team. It would look nice and there is no confusion.
For the team images, I guess we already have those (and some logos), I guess we can come up with a smiley too... I'll take mine off. :(
RegentMan: Ok.
IroquoisPlisken Dec 08, 2005, 04:13 PM So we can't use them? :(
Well, thanks anyway, Ginger. It looked good to me.
gmaharriet Dec 08, 2005, 06:54 PM That's too bad, GA. They were very attractive and tastefully done. I was about to ask for one for myself.
OTOH, I can see how people might mix them up with the board staff avatars, and noobs might PM the game members for board help. I guess in this case you did too good a job of making them look professional. :(
Ginger_Ale Dec 08, 2005, 07:04 PM Yeah, if only there was a way so we could display them only in the MTDG forums...
