Just got the game.. it is fun minus the usual complaints.

1. prefs don't stick.
2. no music
3. bad performance in 9.2

and here is what i am wondering.. how the heck do you jump to other apps or the finder from civ?? command-tab doesn't work. does anyone know?

thanks a lot!

dan.

Command-P (for pause) then switch out normally.

Yes, I discovered this when I tried to use a keyboard shortcut to get to the preferences screen. Among the mistakes I've noticed--the manual says cmd-P is supposed to get you to the preferences menu, but it in fact pauses the game and puts you in finder.

It's a turn based game what does pause do? Does it make Civ stop gobbeling at my CPU? That would be nice, I have just been hiding it but it still eats up cycles....

...well, off to try! That's for the info! :goodjob:

[edit]well, pause is interesting but really no different from hide, except you get a window in hte middle of your screen. The game is still eating cycles like mad:cry:

I am a little disturbed I am telling the developer how to hide the app. This is OS X BTW.

I see. That's obviously not one of the Civ3-specific commands. ;) I'll fix that soon.

no please keep it. I like it, it's just like pause except it gets Civ out of the way so I can do other things.

I need to make sure it doesn't conflict with a Civ3-specific shortcut. I don't think it does, but I'm certain we never tested for the possibility.

I also would consider it a bug that Command-H swaps the app out. It's a MacOS feature like command-tab, and all those (along with the dock) are theoretically disabled when an app has requested a fullscreen context. So even if Command-H works now, it may stop working in the future due to changes in the OS. I don't believe it's possible for us to disable Command-H for that reason, but again, I need to find out more about what's going on here so we can all know what to expect in the future.

K...I understand that but it has been great so far no problems. One thing on disabling OS functions and all, the other day Civ crashed. And I was locked out like it crashed in OS 9. There was no way to get out of the app. Pause and Hide were both not working and not even force quit came up.

It really does suck when you realize the system is still up and now with protected memory an app can crash all day long and it will not matter, but when it takes over teh screen and crashes and their is no way out it really does suck.

(BTW any chance of a window mode? I dream of having Civ in one corner, a web page on the side and a DVD filling the last corner :D)
