I am making this skinned unit into an AH-1W super cobra heli for another American UU. I am sure some one can make a better button than I did.

right now we do not have a lot of flexibility with units but later on we could make two different types of gunships. The original one for nations with more money/productivity. These will cost more but will have more movement and better strenght.

This one looks good but it looks like it was made out of scraps (no offense) This one can be used by poorer nations and will have less range and strenght. These might be useless against the other gunship but might still bring on havoc for inantry or tanks.

This may seem a mundane question for everyone else here, but to where do I unzip this dds file? Cool graphic - thanks!

This will be my first try at changing the graphics of my Civ4 setup.

Thanks!

depends on where u put it. if u put it in the games main files then yes but if u put it into a mod grafics file then u kep the original sjin exept when u play that mod

Good job feando. Because I find skinning difficult to do it makes me appreciate your work even more.

The effort to go out and create something new is important.

Just for the record, the gunship is not an AH-64 Apache, but an AH-1 Cobra

I like it. It really makes the AH-1 Cobra look meaner. Good job.

@ CrazyAce, that's a good idea. Unfortunantly, I can't offer any help other than encouragement, as I have absolutely no idea how to do any modding whatsoever. I don't know if you are aware or not, but the US Marines are the only branch of the US military that uses the Cobra; so a suggestion, if it's possible, would be to add the legend MARINES on the tail boom. Just for reality's sake. Other than that, I like your idea. Semper Fi.

Not true, besides the one in Civ4 is a single engine variant and the Marines (and the Navy for that matter) never use single engine aircraft. So put ARMY down the side instead :p

Nice skin BTW, especially the teeth, it looks great in game without that cartoon shade of green on it.

Nope, since around the early-to-mid 80's, when the Apache was developed, the Marines have been the only ones operating Cobras. The Marine Corps runs on Army surplus (read: what the Army deems obsolete/worn out), and this includes the AH-1 Cobra, in all of it's many varients, both dual- and single-engine. It would be uneconomical for the Army to operate Cobras, since it has Apaches, which fill the same role. And yes, the Navy and Marine Corps operate single engine aircraft.

Featuring the Pratt and Whitney Twinpac T400 engine (two 900-hp turboshaft engines coupled together)
(emphasis added)

Yes, the AH-1W Super Cobra has two engines, but the AH-1J Sea Cobra, and most of the other Cobra varients, have had two engines linked together, sharing one exhaust port.

EDIT: CrazyAce said he was reskinning the Cobra into an AH-1W anyway, which is the multi-engine version you said was the only one that the Marines operate. So no, UNITED STATES ARMY does not belong on the side. MARINES does. :p

Well crap, I must have been in the Marines in the 90's then, and all this time I could have sworn my uniform said "U.S. ARMY" on it. That or we had some seriously funny looking Apaches with a 20mm chaingun, not 30mm and TOWs not Hellfires. :p

Whoa wait a minute; I think you might have misunderstood my post. I am using this skin as an American unique unit as an AH-1 Cobra for the time being. When the SDK tool comes out, I have plans on using a low-poly (4,000 count) AH-1 cobra model that I made for a mod for Battlefield 2.

@Seven: You may well be right, I'm not going to argue with first-hand knowledge, but I do believe that the Army has since stopped using Cobras. I do know, however, that the Marines are the biggest user by far, since the Army refuses to give them any Apaches.

@CrazyAce: Aye, I definantly misunderstood that post. Sorry 'bout that. It said an 'AH-1W Super Cobra,' and as the Cobra in the game is not an AH-1W, I assumed that you were going to reskin it into one. That's what I get for making assumptions.

EDIT: Ok, time to help the newb. Where am I putting this file? Am I doing anything to it or any other file? What do I need to do to get it to work?
