This is the discussion thread for the issues pertaining to what kind of map we will play on. The issues are; with Play Now:

Map type:
Archipelago,
Continents,
Great Plains,
Highland,
Ice Age,
Inland Sea,
Lakes,
Oasis,
Pangaea,
Terra;

Climate:
Random,
Temperate,
Tropical,
Arid,
Rocky,
Cold;

Sea Level:
Random,
Low,
Medium,
High;

World Size:
Random,
Duel,
Tiny,
Small,
Standard,
Large,
Huge;

Difficulty:
Settler,
Chieftain,
Warlord,
Noble,
Prince,
Monarch,
Emperor,
Immortal,
Deity;

Game Speed:
Epic,
Normal,
Quick;

Will we be using Custom Game instead of Play Now? If so I'll need to add more options vote HERE (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=146613).

Civilization and Leader will be chosen separately, although I believe the first poll on the subject was overwhelmingly for Random.

Poll will be put up on the aforementioned choices in 36 to 72 hours. They will be:
Map type HERE
Climate HERE
Sea Level HERE
World Size HERE
Diffculty HERE
Game Speed HERE

This also depends on the civilization, as much as I hate to say it.

If it's random, how?

Being an idiot I forgot to include difficulty and game speed, this has been corrected.

Ice Age, Rocky, High, Huge, Deity, Epic! No, I'm kidding.
I think all defaults, except for Epic speed and Large map size.

You may have been kidding but, that would definitely make for an interesting game. I think I'll try that and see how long I last. It won't be long. :)

I don't think that we should do huge, because huge is really, well huge, and esepcially for a demogame where we need governors for every city, that's a lot of governors. (Of course you probably needed a ton of governors for Civ III with it's city numbers, I'm sure a veteran of demogames past would now much better than I) I don't think we should do terra either, because that's another complication. It would be really fun for a future demogame, but this seems more of a test game, to see just how well everything works in a new format.

Since this is the first demo game for a lot of us, I'd suggest average settings:
Continents
Temperate
Medium
Prince
Quick

One thing to watch out for is the effect of map size and game complexity on system resources. In the RB1 Cuban Isolationist thread, Sirian basically had to drop everything and build a new computer because it started to crash every turn or two. We'll probably have enough candidate Designated Players that it wouldn't be a catastrophic problem, but no point in tempting fate.

but no point in tempting fate.

Tempting fate is fun unless, God (or Insert your deity here) forbid you want an uninteresting, mundane, NORMAL life. Never been sky-diving have you? :)

It seems like it can be agread that their should be continents,temperate, random, no agreament, and epic.

SO i will take the floor and propose we all agree to have standard as our map size. That way we will not loose interest in the late middleages when it stops working because we can see half the cities with our massive religions.

I could go down to standard, but epic is aweswome, i hate discovering gunpowder in lik 100 A.C.E

I think he meant standard map size, not standard game speed. Now that the issue of computers crashing on large maps (which I forgot about), I think standard is probably the best option.
