View Full Version : Mount & Blade: great free* RPG
WildWeazel Dec 09, 2005, 06:30 PM Mount & Blade is a great freeform RPG being created by a husband & wife team in Turkey. It's still in development, but even the beta is an amazing game. You can download the free trial version, which includes the entire game but does not allow you to advance beyond Level 6, which is a few hours of gameplay. You can order a key online to unlock the full version. Right now it only costs $14, and it's well worth the money. The price will slowly approach $25 (which is still a steal for such a great game) as the final release date grows near.
The game is set in a fictional region known as Calradia, where the Vaegirs and Swadians are at war, along with roaming bandits, raiders, and deserters. You may ally with either nation or remain a rogue. As you advance, you can raise a war party and become a formidable force. There is always something to do, whether it is escorting caravans, carrying out missions for the feudal lords, or chasing down bandits. Freeform combat makes battles fun, challenging, and addictive. Instead of relying on your character's skill level, you actually have to be good at fighting in order to win.
There are already modding tools available, and several mods are underway at the site forum, including a LotR mod and a Wild West mod.
All in all, this is an amazing game that will have any RPG or action fan addicted. And for $14, you can't pass it up.

*not exactly free, but it got your attention didn't it? ;)
Maniacal Dec 10, 2005, 01:51 PM It is one of the best game ever. v.711 came out yesterday.
Maniacal Aug 23, 2006, 03:47 PM :bump:
Is Mount and Blade free?
You can play charactors up to level 6 for free. It's only $18 US and the price will get higher with the next update (8.50). The final price will be $25 US. So buying it now save you $7 and all patches and updates are free, even if you have not bought it yet. I DEMAND AND ORDER YOU to read the FAQs in the forum if you have any questions, also the advanced search feature is a good way to find info too.
Are there better quests besides get me 10 arming swords, or hunt this group of bandits?
Not in Vanilla, but quests are not a major focus yet for vanilla, it is still a beta and game mechanics are important. There are some more interesting quests in some of the mdos though. The battles are the best part of vanilla so far.
Till Aug 23, 2006, 04:02 PM I just came back from trying it and have to agree that the combat system is very nice. It's lots of fun to fight folks on horseback. Having to fight from horseback is very challenging, but entertaining also.
This is the kind of FPS/RPG i really like. Only drawback i see thus far is that you are really shafted, if you travel on your own and that the general atmosphere could feel a little more "alive".
Maniacal Aug 23, 2006, 04:07 PM Yeah. The world map is kind of bland. Pretty much everythnig possible has been suggested, many times over, on how to add or change things in the game, so i think Armagan will be able to really improve upno M&B 1 when he makes the sequel.
The only challenging part of horseback fighting is using a short weapon. Or being chased by 70 black nights. That was hell. If you use the battlesize changer, please, I beg you, make sure you have enough troops with you,
Till Aug 23, 2006, 04:33 PM I never seem to be able to hit anything with a lance. And getting the horse to turn takes forever.
The world map is OK with me. I just wish there would be a little more going on in the cities. Right now it is downright diablo-esque. ;)
Almost every NPC as a single function and offers no interesting dialouge beyond that.
Maniacal Aug 23, 2006, 04:37 PM To couch a lance you just equip it, and get the horse up to a certain speed (you ned a saddle horse or better) DO NOT ATTACK WITH A ALNCE LKE YO DO WITH ANOTHER WEAPON. It takes practice aiming. Once you get the basics you can try the mods, but yeah, storymod is really the only one with a story. The mdos are mostly working on game mechanics and they won't be truly great until M&B is finnished as they have to update the mod for each new version.
Till Aug 23, 2006, 05:33 PM Thanks for the hint! Will try it the next time i compete in a tournament. Just hired a couple of folks and meant to train them, but my framerate took a deep dive once i brought them to battle. :(
Maniacal Aug 23, 2006, 05:51 PM Odd. Try turning off things like permament corpses and the grass.
Stormrage Aug 24, 2006, 03:50 PM Its a great game, I had lots of fun with it :)
I`ll buy it when its finished (I know its cheaper now) but I hate paying for unfinished products (C3C...)
Till Aug 24, 2006, 05:01 PM I finally got the hang of using the lance. Holy smoke, it does do a lot of damage! Still, it is extremly difficult to line up the horse properly, especially if the opponent is on horseback as well.
Maniacal Aug 24, 2006, 06:34 PM Yeah, best for taking out when the other guy is charging towards you too, or infantry, especialy archers.
WildWeazel Aug 25, 2006, 12:20 PM Stromy, the advantage of buying it now is that you will get to play in the meantime and still get the finished product. Updates are free, and you never have to re-register. :)
My only complaint so far is that the combat system makes some types of soldiers nearly defenseless against others, especially in the tournaments. For example there is nothing an archer can do if a swordsman reaches him, and taking out a horse archer with a melee weapon can take a looong time.
Maniacal Aug 25, 2006, 02:10 PM Yeah. I once spent FORTY MINUTES chasing the freaking horse archer around the arena.
Tycoon101 Aug 26, 2006, 08:14 AM Hmm... I'll play the free version, but I won't buy it. I could use an RPG.
Maniacal Aug 26, 2006, 01:59 PM You can roleplay in it, and there is an RPG mod. In alpha.
Tycoon101 Aug 26, 2006, 06:06 PM Ooh, fun fun fun! The battle engine is great. If I had a money account on the internet I would buy it. But the free version is excellent.
Maniacal Aug 26, 2006, 06:37 PM Yep. Level six is just where you are getting hooked. As soon as I reached level six I immediately convinced my mom to let me use her credit card. A few hours later I had my serial key (the e-mail can take a few hours to arrive, depends on the servor or something) and was enjoing v.623 (or soemthing like that)
Trust me, it's improved vastly from .623.
Tycoon101 Aug 26, 2006, 07:12 PM I'll stick to quitting just before level6 with the no save option turned on, so I can play infinitely!!! It's very fun, but I'm somewhat confused by it.
But who cares, it's dirt cheap!
puglover Aug 27, 2006, 10:14 AM I downloaded this game yesterday and it's really cool so far. Thanks for the info. :)
Stormrage Aug 28, 2006, 01:06 PM Weasel, yes, it is an advantage, but I don`t trust any more game developers, even cute ones as a married couple.

Tycoon101 Aug 29, 2006, 06:34 AM 2 Things I've found so far:
1. Whenever my character aska a merchant about what should be bought and sold in the town, the game crashes.
2. What is the matter with the Four Ways Inn? Will they put a door in it during a later release, or am I missing something?

1. Works fine for me.
2. I think you can send companions there.

2. What is the matter with the Four Ways Inn? Will they put a door in it during a later release, or am I missing something?
1. Happens, but rarely.
2. You can send your hero NPCs there to wait for you. No door. That's it. It will be upgraded in the future.
This is also one of the top ten most asked questions about the game.
FireBall Aug 29, 2006, 03:41 PM Hm, I'd heard about this game before. Might give it a download when I get around to booting Windows again... Shame that there isn't a Linux binary. Might try it in Wine...
Maniacal Aug 29, 2006, 05:25 PM Try searching the forums on Taleworlds for Linux, do an advanced search to narrow it down to discussion and suggestions forums. There have been a few threads about it.

Thanks.
The first one just happens occasionally, but not today when I played a merchant game.
And now the 2 one's use is much clearer.
puglover Aug 29, 2006, 11:02 PM I bought the game a couple days ago and am absolutely hooked. My character now is in full black armor and has a party of twelve knights in his party. Great game, thanks for the recommendation Weasel! :goodjob:
puglover Nov 27, 2006, 01:04 PM Hey all. I don't like resurrecting age-old threads, but this was the only one on the subject of Mount&Blade I could find, and feel the need to rant.
Taleworlds just released their new version 8.00. And it is an incredible letdown. The thing is filled to the brim with bugs and crashes, and all they can tell you is "wait for the patch." This destroyed my faith in small game companies, because a big company could never get away with such a shameful release.
Maniacal Nov 27, 2006, 02:53 PM What? What bugs? What crashes?
It REQUIRES DIRECTX 9C by the way, unlike past versions.
I was going to ressurrect this thread but I got lazy...
Version .800 as made a much needed graphical update, also the modding tools will be released soon. WE HAVE BOWSTRINGS NOW! SHEATHS FOR SWORDS!
i've played both M+B and Oblivion today.. Oblivon just CTD for no reason. M+B hasn't.
Maniacal Nov 27, 2006, 07:54 PM Okay I ran into an Assertian error, but still. It's a freaking BETA.
puglover Nov 27, 2006, 10:38 PM Okay I ran into an Assertian error, but still. It's a freaking BETA.
I run into assertion errors every 15 minutes. Have you found the Marnid/Borcha bugs yet? How about the multi-party battles errors? The hovering horses bugs? The bridge in Wercheg? etc. etc. etc. :(
Maniacal Nov 27, 2006, 11:19 PM There's a bridge in Wercheg?
They wil lall be fixed in .801. Relax. You can still download (or if you still have the installer) .751 espcialiy since it'll be a while until there are many mods for .800. You can also install say, .751 in Folder A and .800 in Folder B and .632 in Folder C. Meaning you can play three different versions (not at the same time of course, but whenever you want with no conflicts).
Also There has been A LOT of pressure on the dev team to release, they hinted it would be a few weeks a few months ago and they did delay it a bit too. They'll fix it. I have full and complete confidence in them.
And yes, I'm a M&B fanboy.
Till Nov 28, 2006, 12:48 AM Wasn't this version in development for several months, anyway? It seems strange that they would lose their nerve and rush it out of the door after all this time.
puglover Nov 28, 2006, 07:32 PM Well, they just released a patch, and it renders all battles unplayable. Brilliant.
Maniacal Nov 28, 2006, 07:56 PM http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,18471.0.html
Hey, v.700 went to .701, .702, .703, .704.
I can't play the game for a week anyways so I am content to wait, plus there's no mdos that have been updated yet anyways.
WildWeazel Nov 30, 2006, 12:41 PM The .802 patch (http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,18548.0.html) is now available, which is supposed to fix the bugs. I haven't played it yet.
There's an officially-sponsored contest at Chamber of Records (http://www.chamber-of-records.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=477) (LotR-themed modding forum) for which the prize is a free serial key for the 2 winners.
Maniacal Nov 30, 2006, 02:02 PM O_o Taleworlds sponsors a LOTR site?
WildWeazel Nov 30, 2006, 02:39 PM They don't sponsor the site... Armagan just sponsored the contest by donating the serial keys. I edited the wording of my previous post.
Maniacal Nov 30, 2006, 03:10 PM Oh. That makes more sense.
puglover Dec 04, 2006, 09:31 PM And it works like a charm. Awesome bugfix. :D
Maniacal Dec 04, 2006, 09:42 PM This was perfect, I won't be playing M&B until the weekend anyways so 3 bugfixes while I can't/am not playing it is great!
WildWeazel Dec 04, 2006, 09:48 PM This used to be such a lightweight game... v.8x is getting some serious lag on my laptop. I'll have to turn down the graphics settings. :(
odintheking Dec 07, 2006, 09:05 PM Looks brilliant! Hope my computer can run it...

Freakwave Jun 30, 2008, 04:59 PM Recently found out about the game its great try the Demo. Version 0.960 is now out.
leonel Jun 30, 2008, 06:19 PM I love Mount & Blade. Wish it was multiplayer though. Just charging through infantry and swinging with reckless abandonment!
Maniacal Jul 01, 2008, 12:16 AM I'm excited for 1.00, which I'll prboably paly for a few days or maybe a week then wait until the mdos catch up. I played so much fo the game up to 8.08 that I'm a bit burnt out of it now. Although it certainly raised the bar on what I think other games need to have.
Freakwave Jul 01, 2008, 06:26 AM Yes i love the fact its made by 2 ppl. The modding potential is endless. And its great to use all those medieval weapons. I suck at melee. Having a horse compensates alot:D
*btw i thought i was multiplayer instead of singleplay at first. Would be awesome as a mod perhaps.. :)
Maniacal Jul 01, 2008, 12:18 PM THERE WILL NEVER BE MULTIPLAYER IN M&B SO STOP MENTIONING IT FFS.
Sorry, but there's no way to count how many times some noob has posted on the M&B forums "Y is der not any multiplayer!? it would be good additions!" and I can't stand it when people suggest it. It can't happen because there is NO multiplayer support built in.
ozangumus Jul 01, 2008, 06:12 PM Its fight-engine is perfect and very funny especailly if you are riding a horse and have a sword. Also it gives the feeling of medieval atmosphere with a great success. The development team is increased to 6 people one year ago but it started 2 person. Even 6 is a very small number for that great game. Tons of dialogs, scenarios, equipments... Shortly a successfull game from a brillant development team.
King Flevance Jul 03, 2008, 09:03 AM This game looks pretty good. I may have to check it out. :goodjob:
Maniacal Jul 03, 2008, 11:21 AM This game looks pretty good. I am going to download it immediately and ignore everything else I was going to do (such as homework, other games, friends, girl/boyfriend, family, eat, sleep, etc). :goodjob:
Fixed.....
King Flevance Jul 03, 2008, 03:32 PM LOL. I wish I could but I am waiting on a birth certificate to open a new checking account. And I don't have credit cards. So my only options are to wait for the birth certificate or see if I can use my mom's account. (And I owe her a significant amount of money still... and she knows I recently splurged on a PS3 - good thing she also knows I am good for it.) This game does look really good though. I am glad it got bumped as I missed it the first time it was posted.
truckingpete Jul 03, 2008, 05:54 PM just downloaded 2 days ago....and so far..I like it! Like any game, takes a little bit to get use to, but after a while I liked it...I will still have to see if I want to buy it or not. But so far so good!
Maniacal Jul 04, 2008, 12:35 AM Remember, if you buy it now you'll save a few dollars.
That's not a lot.
Heh, I almost feel bad for having only payed $13 US when I bought it in 2005.
WildWeazel Jul 04, 2008, 11:41 AM I don't- I helped fund the development! :) Thanks for reviving this, I hadn't noticed that .960 was out. Now to start another new game...
Say_my_name Jul 04, 2008, 05:09 PM Wow, this game is awesome. I bought the full version on the same day I downloaded it. The 20 bucks I payed were well worth it, and I'm saying this before actually finishing my first game. It kinda reminds me of Pirates!, just on land.
Tycoon101 Jul 05, 2008, 03:45 PM ARGH.
How does one leave a castle after selecting "Ask the guards to let you in"?
The guards let me in to see the lord, and I get to see him...
But then I can't leave. In fact, the only way I can escape from a walled-in castle is by jumping off the walls (which, I might add, is very fun).
Till Jul 05, 2008, 03:56 PM Pressing TAB should bring up a menu with an option to leave. Not that the lords have anything interesting to say... better just meet them on the battlefield!
Tycoon101 Jul 05, 2008, 08:04 PM Pressing TAB should bring up a menu with an option to leave. Not that the lords have anything interesting to say... better just meet them on the battlefield!
Ah! Many thanks! Totally forgot about tabbing.
Many times I need to speak with them to give letters from the king to them.
Till Jul 05, 2008, 08:12 PM I used to do that for a while, but their chores soon became very tedious. Especially since their favour didn't translate into anything more tangible.
Helping out villager seems to result in more volunteers from that village later on. Helping out Lords doesn't have any real effect that i noticed thus far.
Say_my_name Jul 06, 2008, 10:19 AM If you are in favour with a lord he is more likely to vote for you when a new marshal is chosen.
Maniacal Jul 06, 2008, 09:50 PM Marshalls? i'm waiting to play again until the final version. Or until I really feel like it.
WildWeazel Oct 04, 2008, 12:54 PM :bump:
M&B 1.0(03) is out! :D
http://www.taleworlds.com/mb_download.html
There have been a lot of changes in the last few releases. The game looks and feels much more complete now. Calradia is larger, there's more stuff in it, the interface has been replaced, and training/arenas are much different. I wrote a review (http://www.wildweazel.net/2008/10/mount-blade-review.html) in my blog
Stormrage Oct 04, 2008, 06:16 PM Now they just have to get the modding stuff working again. WH mod is going to rock!
GVBN Oct 04, 2008, 08:15 PM So the final version is out and there's still no story or content whatsoever. I fricking knew it. Reviewers are being generous with all these 6/10 scores, the game sucks
Shylock Oct 04, 2008, 09:36 PM So the final version is out and there's still no story or content whatsoever. I fricking knew it. Reviewers are being generous with all these 6/10 scores, the game sucks
Make your own story.
This isn't the kind of game where you are spoonfed a story and objectives. It's like being your own Dungeon Master without all the combat calculations.

Did you, like, get your imagination scooped out as a wee lad? Sure, it hasn't had much of a story, which I wish it did have more story and background (due to being on vacation backpacking in Britain/soon Spain I have been unable to play the final release so I don't know what is in it). However the gameplay is what I love the most, and I am happy to wait for modders to write up some stories while I use my imagination to carve out my own adventure. I remember spending a couple hundred hours playing M&B .623 (or was it .632, can't remember, doesn't really matter) before even half the content of .960 was in the game, or even being thought/worked on.
Shylock Oct 05, 2008, 12:22 PM I just got the newest version after playing .960 alot.
I love it! I immediately noticed all the new animations and the fact cities don't stock plate armour at the start.
jimi12 Oct 06, 2008, 02:14 PM ive been play M&B for a long time and i am a little disappointed too. It is a great game and im sure once the mods start coming it will be great but the game is lacking polish. I would still encourage everyone to play though.

Maniacal Jan 16, 2009, 01:21 PM Yeah, good luck getting it patched afterwards..
Er... what the hell does Gamestop have to do with patches?
Stormrage Jan 16, 2009, 02:32 PM When you buy a game at Gamestop, you can`t patch it up with just any patch, it has to be a patch DL-ed from Gamestop.
And they are not really up to date with their patches..
Hammurabi II Jan 16, 2009, 10:27 PM :dubious: wait....do you mean the gamespot downloaded games? Cause the games in store just seem like normal shrink-wrapped games to me, and I've purchased from them before.

lol they are both very good games...enjoy Knights of Honor!!! mount and blade is that cheap huh? I better go check it out...i only played the beta when it was under development.
Maniacal Jan 24, 2009, 01:14 PM Well it's on sale (again) noramlly it is $29 US.
I bought it way back when it was $13 in beta ^_^ Best purchase EVER.
Vanilla M&B get's dull quickly (especially for those of us who have been playing it for three or four years already), there are quite a few mods hosted on the fourms, while few are actually finnished many are in a stable state with many expanded features.
Rub'Rum Jan 25, 2009, 09:18 PM Just got back from a week-end and caught this late on Sunday, am downloading now, I mean, whatever, it can't be worth less than 7.50$ !
EDIT: Can the mods work okay with Steam?
Rub'Rum Jan 25, 2009, 11:27 PM Jeez, okay so I've been playing for the past 2 hours and a half. I take the first quest around you know, something that seems easy, "bring the cattle to town X", so I'm like level 3, trying to move those cows to that town... And I constantly get attacked by bandits. OK it's on easy so I can take out waves of 10-15 guys by myself and steal their equipment (guys from the seashore seem to carry helmets, each of which are worth more than the quest I'm trying to complete with the cattle...). Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is it normal to just constantly get attacked by bandits? At one point, as soon as I exited the combat screen after a victory, I got attacked again without seeing the world map... three times in a row. Um... Tell me I'm not getting it please?
The game has frozen twice on me, like, hard freezing that makes me have to reset my computer, seems to be when I click on responses to some NPCs talking. The music keeps playign and everything, but I can't alt-tab, ctrl-alt-delete out of it, the game is unresponsive, my cursor is gone. Oh well.
Maniacal Jan 25, 2009, 11:57 PM Yes it is normal to get attacked by bandits. Smaller enemy parties will run from you if they are out numbered by superior troops (although iirc they won't run from 100 peasents).
As well it is possible to have several opposing armies drawn into a abttle, so if say you ate at war with the Swadians and attack a caravan, if there is a Swadian lord and his force really close by he will join the battle against you. Or if an allied force is next to you they will join on your side. As well, since you probably don't have the bigger battles mod, you may have to fight a few smaller battles to defeat an entire force.

Those guys are sea raiders, and they will eat your children. I recommend you steer clear of them until you have a large party or at least a few good cavalry.
actually, on second thought, they seem to have been toned down for the final release. They used to have lots of throwing axes and longbows.

I'm playing on an easy difficulty level so I actually could chew them by myself. Maybe I shouldn't do that, hehe, but I'm still trying to figure out what to do. It's an interesting game. I mean, I know that there isn't really anything "to do" specifically, it's more of a "make up your own adventure" thing, but still, I'm a bit directionless as to how big my band should be, what I can expect to be doing at the level I'm at, when should I join a kingdom more officially... I mean, I see these giant armies from the other guys running around, it'd be tough luck if my band of 15 guys happened to be enemies of some of these. I'm currently level 10.
Maniacal Jan 26, 2009, 03:55 PM No Sea Raiders have been nerfed, at least in Native (unmodded). They used to be real beasts, but they also were from long before the Nords were introduced as their own Faction. For three years Sargoth was always Swadia's Capital.
You should try to get your band big but keep it affordable, hire teir units cost more in upkeep. In Native having say 50 of the strongest cavalry (Swadian Knights or Hired Blades even) with a high level charactor will make you a deadly force to be reckoned with. Unless you piss off a faction (by attacking them) they will ignore you. You can do errands for the lords though, and I suggest doing so. Eventually you will get an offer to join one of the factions and a small fief (a village) once you gain enough renown. Or you can swear loyalty to a King and then help them out for a while, eventually taking your own castle once you think you've worked up enough goodwill and renown for the King to let you keep it instead of giving it to another vassal.

Hell yeah!!! :goodjob:
Hopefully, there'll be more than just a deathmatch mode. I want to see player controlled armies taking the field against other player controlled armies.

I played the beta a bit though not for a few months, and the multiplayer is a lot of fun and can be challenging! All of the improvements are really nice too.
WildWeazel Mar 31, 2010, 03:29 PM HOLY CRAP YES
I've played the beta too and the multiplayer is very interesting. I can't wait to try out the main campaign.
GVBN Mar 31, 2010, 03:57 PM I played the Warband beta multiplayer for 15 minutes and from what I can tell it combines the worst aspects of M&B with Counter-Strike, with added lag and the worst UI I've seen in recent years. And they're seriously asking 30 euros for it
Rub'Rum Mar 31, 2010, 06:45 PM I played the Warband beta multiplayer for 15 minutes and from what I can tell it combines the worst aspects of M&B with Counter-Strike, with added lag and the worst UI I've seen in recent years. And they're seriously asking 30 euros for it
I'm guessing 5 bucks within a year.
Esckey Mar 31, 2010, 08:45 PM The best thing about Warband
All the mods will FINALLY be updated. So many modders said screw it and decided to wait for Warband to come out before updating their mods
cardgame Mar 31, 2010, 09:36 PM I'll stick with vanilla, Warband doesn't change enough to jusitfy $30 for me.
Multiplayer... will be laggy, to say the least.
Captain2 Mar 31, 2010, 11:23 PM Warband is pure awesome!!!
Its made out of sunshine and happiness!
Maniacal Apr 01, 2010, 03:13 AM I played the Warband beta multiplayer for 15 minutes and from what I can tell it combines the worst aspects of M&B with Counter-Strike, with added lag and the worst UI I've seen in recent years. And they're seriously asking 30 euros for it
Erm, I have not had that problem at all. I have not had any lag, no issues with the UI either, and there are a few different gameplay modes besides the round-based battles. I had a sweet deathmatch yesterday morning :)
leonel Apr 01, 2010, 11:11 AM The lag can get annoying but on occasion I'll get a lucky strike. I'm actually getting used to the combat too, especially with people using two handed weapons. The two handed weapons are slower than the one handed weapons so if you can block it, quickly strike while they're pulling back.
I really like the ranged classes though! This one time, I killed 4 people in a row while in the middle of combat during a castle siege. So awesome. :D
GamezRule Apr 13, 2010, 09:15 PM I bought the original M&B a year ago, but never really got into it and quit, now I am really getting into it and am lvl 24 without cheats. I have to say this is a really good game being an indie, although I have never tried warband, and would like to get some opinions on if I should get it. ;)
Maniacal Apr 13, 2010, 09:58 PM Get Warband. If you don't want to pay $29.99 (which I more than happily did) it will probably go on sale at somepoint (it already was recently bundled with M&B1 somewhere).
GamezRule Apr 13, 2010, 11:34 PM There is also a third one coming out but it is by a different developer and is sort of a "tribute" game. It's called "Mount&Blade: With Fire and Sword." It looks kinda interesting though.
Maniacal Apr 13, 2010, 11:41 PM Tribute is the wrong word, not sure on the exact word, but it is a game using the same engine and graphics. It is based off a series of (fictional?) polish historical novels, I do not know if there will be an English version.
Yeekim Apr 14, 2010, 04:29 AM I played the Warband beta multiplayer for 15 minutes and from what I can tell it combines the worst aspects of M&B with Counter-Strike, with added lag and the worst UI I've seen in recent years. And they're seriously asking 30 euros for it
I agree that whoever designed the UI deserves to be drawn and quartered.
But it's still a great game.
Maniacal Apr 14, 2010, 12:10 PM How is the UI difficult at all?
WildWeazel Apr 14, 2010, 12:34 PM There's not one. But that's ok with me.
Yeekim Apr 15, 2010, 09:36 AM How is the UI difficult at all?
I have not taken my own castle yet...but do you still have to click once per every troop you wish to (un)garrison?
Besides, just look at it.
Maniacal Apr 15, 2010, 12:49 PM I have not taken my own castle yet...but do you still have to click once per every troop you wish to (un)garrison?

No, you can hold down, I forget exactly, probably ctrl and the entire stack will move. Clicking once however really doesn't take much time, at all. Nor will you likely have garrisons exceeding 100+ enough to be a pain unless you have a lot of income.
And yes I have looked at it, I've been looking at it on and off for the last FIVE. YEARS. I don't see a problem.

Volum Apr 23, 2010, 05:43 AM I just re-installed it but this time with the 1866 mod. Only played for around two hours but i think it's a great mod! I really like mod's with firearms.
I might get warband at some point, but will have to see. Maybe if it goes on sale or something.
west india man Apr 23, 2010, 06:50 PM I'm interested in it. I heard you can be king, what's that like?
Maniacal Apr 23, 2010, 09:10 PM I'm interested in it. I heard you can be king, what's that like?
You can name your Kingdom anything you want, appoint your NPCs with titles as vassals, they also can do stuff to give you rights to rule or go spy out n nation. I haven't tried it out beyond a few minutes yet though. The Sword of Damocles mod for Mount&Blade has more king features in it but Warband is pretty damn fun, plus multiplayer.
Jos Ballenbak Apr 25, 2010, 05:52 PM what is the best country to allign yourself with at first, I tried Swadia because they have those Swadian Knight which are epicly badass.
GamezRule Apr 25, 2010, 06:01 PM Swadia all the way :goodjob:
WildWeazel Apr 25, 2010, 08:30 PM NORD! :viking: I will purge the land of the Swadian filth.
cardgame Apr 25, 2010, 09:36 PM Whatever you do don't go Vaegir or Rhodok :cringe:
Also the bandits will tear you apart in the Khanate.
Captain2 Apr 25, 2010, 09:42 PM the Sarranids own you all :p
Maniacal Apr 25, 2010, 11:35 PM I used to play with the Vaegirs a lot, haven't for some time though. What's the problem?
cardgame Apr 26, 2010, 04:56 PM They're weak.
WildWeazel Apr 26, 2010, 05:32 PM Which is because they're unfortunate enough to be at war with the Nords.
Esckey Apr 26, 2010, 07:50 PM I only really enjoy playing with the Nords and Swadia
cardgame Apr 26, 2010, 10:16 PM I wouldn't mind playing with the Khanate guys, but I can't train on the bandit hordes because they're all horse archers. They would massacre my villagers...
In fact I recently tried to start the game out in the Khanate and by day 3 my only possessions were a couple of rags and a rusty sword.
Oruc May 02, 2010, 02:36 PM Why does everything decide to turn red? why is the sky on the floor? it starts out fine for about two seconds then redness everywhere. even worse fighting when I was fighting some looters no texture for floor at all, just sky.

Maniacal May 02, 2010, 02:41 PM Nice, you have killed so many people you have broken the world. Goodjob Oruc, we only had one of those! This is why we can't have nice things.
As for a solution, are you playing Mount&Blade or the Warband expansion?
Also what kind of graphics card, operating system, RAM, etc do you have? Try updating the drivers.
WildWeazel May 02, 2010, 05:58 PM Your character has bloodlust!
Oruc May 03, 2010, 07:32 AM I just needed to update drivers, its a fun game even though not sure what im supposed to be doing.
I just passed through Khergit land and got attacked by 6 groups of bandits wouldn't like to start down there.
Jos Ballenbak May 03, 2010, 11:53 AM Yeey I have the 1257 AD mod up and running will be sure to post some pics in the near future.
Maniacal Nov 07, 2010, 12:57 PM Has anyone played any good Warband mods? I don't feel like playing vanilla anymore.
GamezRule Nov 07, 2010, 12:59 PM Well, the 1866 (wild west) vanilla mod just got ported to warband, and I have been addicted to the vanilla version for 2 weeks now.
Stiefel Nov 07, 2010, 01:01 PM Has anyone played any good Warband mods? I don't feel like playing vanilla anymore.
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,165.0.html
herp derp
Maniacal Nov 07, 2010, 01:05 PM Herp derp I don't know which ones are good, half (guesstimate) of them barely tell you what they are all about, and I'm not going to download and go through them all, no time.
Heretic_Cata Nov 08, 2010, 03:33 AM Probably stupid question, but are a lot of things in the game purposely misspelled history peoples/locations(?) ?
Maniacal Nov 08, 2010, 02:31 PM I don't recall any, and if there are then they are likely less misspelled and more inspired by and slightly changed.
Heretic_Cata Nov 08, 2010, 02:47 PM Swadia - Swabia
Sarranid - Sassanid
From skimming through this thread. The game seems nice tho.
