View Full Version : Elect the Judiciary early?
DaveShack Dec 12, 2005, 10:22 AM Should we have a "term 0" judiciary, with terms ending on Dec 31? I think this is a good idea because the CoL will need to be checked against the Constitution, and that activity should not wait until after the government is elected or we'll have nonstop controversy the first term.
Swissempire Dec 12, 2005, 03:22 PM Good idea(ignore evrything after this point)... to good... way to good... OMG DaveShack is trying to SEIZE POWER RUN RUN FOR THE HILLS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
ravensfire Dec 12, 2005, 04:15 PM If the only task is to verify that we don't have any conflicts between the Constitution and the Code of Laws, I don't think we need an "official" Judiciary.
Once we determine the style of Government, we can create two threads. The first is the "tweak" thread for the CoL, the second is the issue thread that looks for "gotchas" and brings them to the attention of the tweak thread. By seperating them, the people going through the rules, looking for problems can spot and discuss possibilities, and get a concensus before sending a change to the tweak crew.

I agree with Ravensfire here, they have one job to do then they can step down.

Alphawolf, I you missed my meaning. There is no temporary Judiciary. There's a seperate thread where people who are interested in it can look through things, but there is no "judiciary" per se. It's just a discussion thread that will post conclusions into the tweak thread.

Sorry about that, I managed to skip everything above the first break that mentioned the unofficial Judiciary.

Octavian X Dec 13, 2005, 08:55 PM Maybe I missed something - wasn't the Council we elected earlier supposed to fulfill these functions?

I hadn't read into that the equivalent of Judicial Review powers, but it does kinda make sense.
