View Full Version : FA : Senator's poll, war with Rome
DaveShack Dec 14, 2005, 06:32 PM This is the Senate poll for declaring war with Rome. As shown by this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=141483), we would invade Rome to obtain saltpeter, a vitally important resource. This poll (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=147323) showed that a large percentage but small number of people support war as soon as the military is ready. For the purposes of this poll, the time period is defined as between 0 and 10 turns from now. If the military cannot be ready in 10 or fewer turns then we need to reassess the situation.
Vote yes to declare war with Rome when the military is ready (10 turns or less from now)
Vote no to not declare war with Rome
Abstain if you want to mark your presence but not vote for either of the other options.
This poll will be open for 3 days or until the beginning of the next play session, whichever is earlier.
This is the senatorial poll. Governors of cities please post your Yes / No / Abstain vote. There is no "forum poll", votes taken by post only.
RegentMan Dec 14, 2005, 07:23 PM I vote yes.
TimBentley Dec 14, 2005, 08:51 PM Yes from the expatriate governor.
ravensfire Dec 14, 2005, 10:54 PM Absent the detailed instructions for war, the Governor of Olympus votes NO to war at this point in time.

DaveShack Dec 15, 2005, 09:09 AM The governor of Styx votes yes.
RegentMan Dec 15, 2005, 04:00 PM Jeez, thanks for not telling me to vote in the third person! ;)
ravensfire Dec 15, 2005, 05:52 PM Please note my vote change.

Donovan Zoi Dec 16, 2005, 01:29 PM This is the Senate poll for declaring war with Rome. As shown by this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=141483), we would invade Rome to obtain saltpeter, a vitally important resource.
Senators, this is misinformation. By capturing the target city of Rome, we would not have access to Saltpeter until we prop up the city with culture for 40-odd turns or more. Please keep this in mind when you make this decison, as you can hold out until we conquer the right Roman city: Antium.
The misinformation tossed out by a handful of governors does a disservice to us all. It has swayed the popular vote for the far inferior choice by implying that Saltpeter would be readily available from Rome upon capture. Lamentably, that tactic continues in this thread.
Please vote NO in this poll so that we can send a message to governors to be more forthcoming with the facts, especially in official threads such as this one.
Respectfully,
Donovan Zoi
Concerned Citizen
ravensfire Dec 16, 2005, 01:50 PM The Honorable Donovan Zoi is correct - we will have to wait quite some time for the borders of Rome to expand enough to gather the Saltpeter we need.
The use of a colony, well-protected, on a Saltpeter resource, will allow us to quickly acquire and use the new technologies we have developed.
My vote will, however, remain witheld until I see adequate plans for the war. Should these plans not be forthcoming within 3 hours, I will vote no in this proposal, and no as a citizen. I cannot, in good concience, send the men of Fanatikos to war with a poor plan to guide them.

Furiey Dec 16, 2005, 03:18 PM This was stated in the thread with the poll following the piccies of the projected borders:
Antium will claim the Saltpetre at an earlier level of expansion than Rome. A colony using one of the many slave workers we will have by then will quickly solve that problem.
I too however am hoping for a bit more information in the war plans and have not yet voted in either poll.
ravensfire Dec 16, 2005, 05:15 PM My vote has been cast.

Furiey Dec 16, 2005, 06:29 PM The Governor of The Augean Stables votes YES.
Although I do not believe the current military plans are adequate and that insufficient account has been taken of the difficulty that we will have defeating Muskets (modified defence 7.8 in a city on flat land) with Knights (attack 4) I do not believe we should delay further as we need to get our own supply of Saltpetre before we face Roman Cavalry as well.

Actually, this is misinformation about misinformation.
My post as FA (not as a Governor) was that in the discussion we wanted to go to war with Rome. I did not say which city would be captured.
If you're going to post inflammatory information, please ensure it is correct.
Of course, wearing my governor hat, I respect the positions of my peers. If you don't think we should proceed you are entirely correct to vote against it. :D
