Well, I don't know if I "cheated" because I had the Blue Marble mod and a "special advisor" mod as well.

However, I submitted my save and accidently selected "Domination" instead of "Diplomatic".. I guess after spending endless hours staring at the screen, I couldn't read properly anymore :(
