I want to attempt a simple MOD, but I want to make sure of something first. Do you just create a folder in the mod folder and copy the files you want to edit, or is there more to it than that? I want to make sure so as I don't screw up my game. I know there are some utilities available in the utility section, but they seem a long way off, with only a fraction of editing capability. Also, most of them don't edit the areas I want to edit yet.

Anyway, if somebody could help me out real quick, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Yes, always copy the original file being edited into your mods folder. NEVER edit the original file, otherwise if you mess up you'll have to reinstall.

I also recomment jEDIT for XML editing. Very good interface instead of having to edit using txt files. Its free, but does require java, also free (at least the form needed for it to work).
