Oops, I forgot to post my suggestions for the next leader. Basically, we are no longer in wars and we have lots of happy cities that don't have luxuries. This means that lots of entertainers still exist for no real reason. Whoever is next just needs to build up and upgrade all of our forces and micromanage all of our cities. We need to hit the 1000 gold plateau and stay there so we can utilize wall street. We are making 100+ per turn with about 600-700 in our coffers, and growing. Also, watch the Franco-Japan alliance, I think that spells trouble. Just a hunch :scan:

Thanks Gonzo, for tidying up! :D

Im going now, and I will continue the progress you started.
I'll try to bring France back into the fold. They are obviously impressed with Japan's strength, therefore we should surpass them and be #1 ASAP.

Culture, wealth, science and raw military power. We can beat them if we stay at peace for a little while.

Donsig and Knight-Dragon are after me.
These will be boring turns if you dont like domestic tinkering. ;)
I do though. :D

Actually, our empire is in great shape!:goodjob:

The potential is huge, I could probably put us at #1 in 20 turns.

The military is in decent shape, and we dont have any enemies that are close by ( besides the Zulu who are puny and weak :mwaha: ).

I kicked up the science rate to 80% and still make 114 gold/turn. :D
Industry in 5 turns.
I made a luxury deal with Persia that gives us 34 gold per turn, in addition to the three we have going.
Our trade network is strong.

What are our goals going to be now? We can pretty much do anything we want. I'd say our options are wide open.

We have plenty of territory, and further conquest would only net corrupt colony cities.

What do all the chairmen want to do?

I want to make up with Cleo.

Isn't she down on her luck? Who owns the Egyptian cities now? Can we liberate them and return them to Cleo? From then on we can play policeman of the world. Make sure no one takes anyone else's cities. Could be tricky but fun. Can we do that and try for a diplomatic victory? We haven't explored that avenue yet.;)

Toasty
Mar 07, 2002, 06:44 PM
I'm glad someone else was thinking about restoring to Cleo her empire :D.

The policeman thing would be great to try. The point of the game is fun, so, let's have fun restoring Egypt and giving the Zulus more trouble.

Besides, I miss Cleo .

I dont even care if we win, to be honest. It would be great, but we could have alot of fun playing policemen.

I'll see what I can do to begin the restoration of Cleopatra's Empire. :D

We are deffinately NOT going to win a diplomacy victory that way.
We will be stepping on India and Japan's toes. :hammer:

I wish I had more time to play, but here it is:

Cleopatra went from furious to polite after I gave her Pithom, New Islandawana, and Mycanea (all useless btw ;) ), RoP and gems as a token of goodwill.

I signed RoP with Japan, Persia and Iroquois for insurance against war. WATCH INDIA! They are massing elephants on our border. Lots of cavalry to counter with, but be carefull nonetheless.

I cancelled RoP with America, as they have no business on our continent anyway. Fock 'em. Persia and India will have to be dealt with eventually too.

Japan is busy beating up Shaka.

Many improvements underway. Were looking good!
I put all the entertainers back to work, and will be known as the "no fun" chairman by our people. ;)

Good luck, I believe donsig is up.

1485 - 1535 AD: Working on railroad netword, upgrading to riflemen, building aqueducts and other infrastructure. Started industrializing China in 1495 and completed the military academy in 1500.

1540: Cancelled our gem exports to India - 20 turns were up and they have Cleo's city of Elephantine (which is guarded by elephants).

1545: Ghandi wants a MPP, RoP and 4 gold. We clear the table and demand elephantine. Ghandi refuses.

1550: We learn to use electricity. Iron running out on our NW island.

1560: Ghandi given an ultimatum: return Elephantine or else. Ghandi choses 'else'. The Republic of China declares war on India. The battle for Elephantine begins. Our cannon open up on the elephants and teh calvary descends on them.

1565: NINE elephants, a horse, sword and archer sally forth to Elephantine's defense. In our first cavalry attack on this horde a man of special ability appears on the scene to lead China to victory. His name is Qianlong and after the battle he is sent to Beijing.

1570: France destroyes the Zulu. RIP Shaka. Guess the international police arrived too late to help the Zulu.;)

1575: America and India sign a MPP and America dares to declare war on the Republic of China. We want to give Asyut back to Cleo anyway... In the mean time Chinese scientists formulate and standardize a scientific method.

1580: Elephantine remains in Indian hands as we move our cannon up. Qianlong's theory of evolution is published in Nanking. The new Chinese factories are using a new idea: replaceable parts. Chinese scientists use the scientific method to investigate the atom.

After we get Elephantine and Aslut back for Cleo we can make peace with India and America (I hope) and turn our attention to Persia and Japan.

Universal Suffrage is due in a dozen turns or so. No unhappiness yet and I think we're still on 0% luxury! I also noticed at the end of my last turn that there is un unconnected silk tile within our borders. We have rubber on one of the islands but it needs a road. Once that is connected we can upgrade to infantry. I left 2800 gold in the treasury. Should be enough.

Iron works will be done in one turn. Is it being built in Thermopylae? That would be IRONIC given our ancient worries when Alex (remember him?) owned it. When iron works is done we should pop a factory there. We're researching electronics so we can build Hoover's Dam. We are an industrial powerhouse already!:)

BTW: Did I mention that we are technologically advanced?;)

joespaniel
Mar 09, 2002, 01:37 AM
Good show, donsig. Someone needed to send those interlopers back to their own continents.

Lets get those factories online, and build the Hoover.

Knight-Dragon will lead the next charge against the elephants.
Good luck!

gonzo_for_civ

I'm seeing droves of Indian riflemen and cavalry heading my way, so no more elephant-hunting fr now on. They're still throwing some leftover ancient units at the Egyptians though. Anyway, my part of the campaign : -

Pre-turns - Saw another rubber tile on the NW island. Renegotiate luxury deal with Persia for 55 gold per turn and drop deal with Japan. Our fiscal surplus is coming almost exclusively fr our trading with the Persians and Iroquise. ;) We need more banks and universities.

1585 - Ironworks completed.

1590 - Japan ends RoP with us. They're furious now. So? :p Egypt declares war on India and the Americans declares war on Egypt. Egypt's a gone case now.

1595 - Captured Elephantine and 1 worker.

1600 - Gave Elephantine to the Egyptians since I didn't see any elephants here, so it wasn't a choice tourist spot. Established embassy with the Aztecs. Indian elephant and warrior landed on NW island but we have riflemen there. ;)

1605 - Captured Asyut and passed to the Egyptians. Army heading towards Alexandria to help.

1610 - American knights storming down to defenceless New Bapedi (which belonged to us???). Gave to the Aztecs. Alexandria had fallen. Upgrading rifles to infantry.

1615 - Our cavalrymen were attked outside New Karachi and a new Great Leader, Ghengis Kahn, was born! Action around Byblos, our cavalry picking off stray Indian units.

1620 - Bought sanitation fr the French for 183 gold.

1625 - Building the Hoover's Dam in Shanghai in 1 turn. Upgrading cannons to artillery. Thebes fell but took back and passed back to the Egyptians.

1630 - Thebes fell again (naturally). We got to pull back our cavalry fr the mountains which served as our temp base to heal. Apparently they don't seem to be healing in RoP territory (?). Hoover's Dam completed! Suffrage completing next turn!

End

Toasty is up, and Ohwell is on deck. You know what to do. :hammer:

Toasty
Mar 10, 2002, 07:05 PM
Toward the middle of the 1630s, once again, the house of Marshmallow returns to rule over the Chinese Republic. Hoping to restore Egypt, he begins a minor financial aide program for Cleopatra at 2 g/pt. It may increase over time. Giza is taken by the indians, but Hiercanopolis is successfully defended by Cleoparta's forces.

In 1635, a siege of Thebes is initiated. After severely damaging the rifleman garrison in the city, a Chinese cavalry unit destroys it. A nearby infantry unit kills the lone cavalry in Giza and liberates the city. After a little military action, Toasty trades Cleo Replacable Parts for Espionage, World Map, and 5 gold hoping to hold back the Indians...but, go figure, she has no rubber. An Indian Cavalry regiment outside Giza is eliminated. Thebes is heavily fortified, as we Toasty plans to only return Cleo's cities to her after the war is over. Our Egyptian allies' military action includes the annihilation of 2 Indian cavalry regiments. The Japenese want to trade world maps...oky-doky...A cavalry regiment is lost outside Thebes and the Egyptians lose a longbowman.

I started the Intelligence Agency in the beginning of 1640.

However, I need some input from the chairmen--should we give Cleo Rubber, or not? I'm gonna wait until I get an answer.

Knight-Dragon
Mar 10, 2002, 08:12 PM
We have 2 rubber; I suppose we shld. This way maybe the Egyptians can hold on longer. Better to fight them in Egypt than in our own lands. ;)

gonzo_for_civ
Mar 11, 2002, 07:59 AM
I would give her the rubber as it will increase her attitude and give us more control over her. :D

donsig
Mar 11, 2002, 11:54 AM
Let the rubber exports to Egypt begin! Should we include some gold so Cleo can upgrade to infantry?

(BTW: holding on to the cities till after the was ends is a good idea - as long as Cleo doesn't get eliminated!)

gonzo_for_civ
Mar 11, 2002, 12:04 PM
Yeah, let's give her some gold too. Then, she can upgrade and hopefully save us some money because we won't have to bail her out as much. :D

Good thinking donsig! :D

Knight-Dragon
Mar 11, 2002, 09:14 PM
We could also conquer a few more cities fr the Indians and give them to them. Each given city will 'give' the Egyptians one whole new regular infantry (if they have rubber). Remember Zanguin and some other Indian cities are to the west of Pharsalos (?) and them Indian units are beginning to encroach on our lands.

Preferably, we shld take Alexandria, post lots of infantry there and 'shield' the Egyptians sufficiently for them to recover and counterattk (not likely).

Watch out for the east. During my watch, a lot of American knights are bearing down on New Bapedi; these shld have been rerouted to and aimed at our nearest city to France.

Toasty
Mar 12, 2002, 02:55 PM
In 1640, after an ememergency meeting among the chairmen, Toasty sets out to save Egypt. Rubber and amssive economic support (50 g/pt) are given to Cleopatra. He immediately begins taking up positions on the strait of Alexandria to stop the inflow of Indian cavalry and to isolate both the American & Indian forces in Egypt.

As the turn ends, Toasty considers an alliance with the French if things get too bad.

Almost all cities begin to protest in 1645. after the Chinese cavalry rests in Thebes, it unleashes upon Byblos and Byblos quickly succums to the Chinese.

In 1650, a trade agreement for Ivory with the Iroquois is signed. We get Ivory, World map, and 33 g/pt, they get Atomic theory. Giza is evacuated and handed over to the Egyptians, as is Thebes, since there are no longer any major Indian threats in interior Egypt.

at the dawn of 1655, a siege is begun on Alexandria. Byblos is evacuated and handed over to the Egyptians. After Alexandria is reduced to size 1 and ONLY A SINGLE-HIT CAVALRY UNIT REMAINS!!, Toasty is sadly out of attackers :(.

In 1660, at long last, Alexandria is taken with the loss of 5 cavalry regiments to the Indians. It is immediately handed over to the Egyptians. Egypt has been completely cleansed of Indian scum, and the Chinese set up their defenses along the strait of Alexandria to suit the new front, and focus the bulk of their army on the former Zulu Indian holdings. The Egyptians do us a favor and mop up the remaining Indian cavalry in Egypt & China.

Yet, to Toasty's horror, the American's begin pouring in from Elephantine & Asyut! As fiery death from Artillery rains down on the American knights & horsemen, Toasty pulls all spare infantry in the country to defend the counter-attack. Soon after the bombardment, they are mopped up by the spare forces. A fruit basket with a card that was sealed with a kiss arrives from Cleopatra . Elephantine is liberated as a 1 hp knight alone defends it, and is given to the Egyptians.

In 1670, the Indians amassed a counter-attack st the gates of Alexandria. Their defense is slaughtered and their cavalry regiments are softened up and slaughtered. In total, a loss of 8 cavalry regiments and two rifleman regiments for the Indians while no losses are suffered for the Chinese. Spies are planted in most countries; the poor Egyptians, so small in number, yet so great in heart :D. The French army is HUGE! 37 cavalry regiments. Joan, I have a fruit basket for you...

The Egyptians make peace with America, and we proceed to do the same, in exchange for Asyut. It is then, per usual, handed over to the Egyptians. All of Egypt has become liberated pardon the Japanese holdings. The Indian war rages on. I leave that to the next chairman.

(on screen: a shot of an old style reel to reel tape recorder. The voice of Peter Graves says: )

The Republic of China is attempting to restore Cleopatra's cities to her. Those that had been taken by India and America have been liberated and returned to Egypt. Peace has been made with America but China is still at war with India. Your mission, Mr. Ohwell, (should you choose to accept it) is to end the war with India so China may liberate those parts of Egypt still under foreign (Japanese?) control. If you must kick India out of our part of the world in order to end the war then by all means do so.;) Also, if Persia still has a city between China and Egypt it is also a prime target for liberation.:D

You may of course also pursue any other objectives you see fit. As usual, if you are captured and tortured the agency will disavow any knowledge of you or your mission.

This post will self destruct in five seconds...

Mission Accmplished! Slightly.

Sort of. I played only 3 turns. But alot of changing was done!

Many of our cities, including heartland cities, have NO bank!! Cavalry production is switched to banks and universities in many cities.

Turn 1- Zunguin captured, gifted to Egypt.

Turn 2- New Karachi Captured, gifted to Egypt.

Turn 3- Several Indian Galleons are spotted, our artillery bombards them away! Our brilliant Scientists devised a way to make even the most worthless oil productive, through refining. They now strive to develop a better metal plating for our Naval Vessels.

Hi guys, Im back! :D Feeling much better now.

So, are what kind of strategy should we attempt with this game?

Conquest would be very time consuming with 12 civs (ok, 10) on a large map (80% ocean is my guess).

We could continue to improve our empire, and wreck everyone who challenges our supremecy in culture and power, by pilaging and if necessary razing their prime cities.

I would prefer to go for a histograph win, so we need more wonders, improvements and people.
Economicaly speaking, we are a super-power already.

Lets keep an eye on the histograph. ;)

Something came up at work and I have got too much to do. I really wanted to play this war too. Oh well, I'll get my chance. I don't want to hold us up anymore so the next person can play.

I'm at work now - will play when I get home tonight! (My wife's working the night shift so I'll have no distractions.;) )

When I first started playing these succession games we could delete our own posts. That was a good thing because it allowed us to get rid of alot of the posts (like this one) that aren't part of the story of the game. That saved space and made the story of the game flow a bit better. It would be nice to have that ability back again.

How about screen shots? I post jpg files. Anyone know if a gif file would be smaller? Maybe I'll try one next time and see...

I don't really mind the inconsequential small talk though. Since I make a lot of them. :p
