I just bought more RAM and an Invidia 128MB video card because I thought this might be slowing the gameplay down. But, I still have the same problem. Everything works fine until I get to about 1500A.D or 1700A.D. Then the game slows to a crawl!!! I downloaded the 1.09 patch. While installing, error 1706 came up. I'm out of answers and need some help before I firebomb the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same here, very annoying.
Have 512MB 128 MB video card and Win 2K.
Same error message with the patch, and also with the normal install. It does say though that its updated...
I reinstalled it again and waited untill the patch said it was done, then it wanted me to install something else which I hadnt seen before. Did that as well but havnt tried it since.

Note that I am playing on the standard map, although I hate standard, only like huge......But that simply wont do.

Very annoying. I wonder if that fella that made the mod pack for civ III, which included a faster thingy is gonna make a new patch for civ IV.

Ok, I have re-done the patch, wait after it says its processing the updating, it will ask to install something again called x-something. Its running like a antilope right now. Ignore the error message, prob a sense of humour of some programmer.

Huge Map, is running good.
