Anybody like the choice of music picked for Civilization IV? I personally love the stuff, especially the musical scores by Beethoven, Back, Mozart, etc. Truly great music to get in tune with the era.

I really like everything up through the Industrial period.

The Modern music is just terrible though.

This is a good a thread as any to point out that the Soviet National Anthem syncs perfectly with the title screen. Try it.

Personally, I liked the "ancient music," but the rest I found either too well known (by me; among other things, I've collected, studied, and regularly review classical CD releases), or too unsuited to the mood of the game.

I was also mildly disturbed by one selection: the background music for Louis XIV's diplomacy screen. The quintessential French monarch is accompanied by--a harpsichord sonata written by Domenico Scarlatti, an Italian who spent most of life in Spain. His music is remarkable for the amount of Spanish folk and Baroque content it includes (among other things). Louis could have been accompanied by Francois Couperin, Rameau, or Forqueray. Yes, I know practically no one else will catch this, but that still doesn't mean I have to ignore it. :D

I'm a big Mozart fan, so yes. Some of it is kind of dreary, but it's good.

I like the song for the ancient period with the jazzy Rastafarian sounding dude. That, and everything up to the modern period. The modern period music is so monotonous and redundant; I think it's suppose to give you a feeling of the 'racing times'.

All great soundtracks, but the classical era is really hurtin'. I replaced all the mp3s for the classical era with smashing pumpkins, nirvana, the eagles, (insert your favourite band here)
