View Full Version : Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
Maniacal Dec 23, 2005, 02:08 PM I picked up the game on Wednesday the 21st at a market in Mexico for 225 pesos (approx $22.5 US) and though a little dusty works great. However it doesn't save any data when I turn it off, like, it asks do you want to save? So I say yes, it says it saves, but then I will turn it off, turn it back on later, and no data was saved! This is annoying as I am getting tired of redoing the campaign missions . Also, at the begginning it has this message about police finding a dead research monkey in a drain and something about mode7. It just seems, really odd...

.........
If you're serious....you may have a counterfeit copy....or something...
FriendlyFire Dec 24, 2005, 01:11 AM You have a "pirated" version it seems. If you can get a refund:
Else crack open the case and see if you locate a small cell battery. If there is one simply replace it. Otherwise your screwed.
Maniacal Dec 24, 2005, 02:18 PM I didn´t know it was possiale to pirate gamboy games, but I´m not surprised. The case looks like it was opened as it is not quite aligned. The game works fine though. The box looks authentic. So does the very skimpy manual, well, except for it´s lack of content. I´m not surprised. THe markets are full of pirated cds. When I get home I will unscrew the case and look.
Specialist290 Dec 24, 2005, 02:27 PM Definitely a pirated copy. I own the game myself, and there is nothing in it about dead research monkeys found in a drain.
Maniacal Dec 24, 2005, 02:34 PM Oh, and by the way. Any tips on beating Flak at the factiory? I am having a hard time on that level. Also, I bought it in a market stall, no reciet. It does say in that oening text thing "Just an imitation".
Specialist290 Dec 24, 2005, 02:40 PM On the first campaign? In order to win the mission, you have to destroy the one section of pipe that connects the factory to Black Hole's homeland. The rest of the pipe is indestructable, but that one section should be easy to spot. Getting there's the hard part, though, and it's been a while since I've played that mission, so I'm probably not going to be able to give a bunch of advice, but just keep trying and don't forget to capture any cities and bases that you reasonably can.
Maniacal Dec 24, 2005, 02:43 PM The problem I have is getting there, and also the enemy has easier to grab cities. Sothey have more money than me earlier on, and shoot an planes I build as soon as they are built. I´ll keep trying.

Hmm...
Have you tried using a fluid strategy already? Try for something like a "blitzkrieg"; build Tanks and Recon to punch through the lines, then use Infantry and Mechs loaded in APCs or Transport Copters to secure the ground. Don't let up unless you start taking heavy losses. Another thing you could try is building Rockets; they don't have to get really close to the pipe to start blasting away at it. Don 't forget to keep 'em supported, though; like all artillery units, they have relatively low defense.
Also, if you haven't tried it (or fallen victim to it) already--AA cannons are great for clearing out groups of Infantry.

As a Veteran AW, AW2 player.
I recommend playing the BATTLEMAPs in order to learn about econimy and build order.
As for the Mission
you need to get an APC and INF to capture the factory.
Pop out out a INF, TANKS to stall the enemy.
Then Rocket artillary to wear down the enemy
Simply send in tanks to BLOCK the enterance of the enemy factory and pipe to prevent enemy from recieveing reinforcements
Blow up the pipe.

That is what we call a "intro" which crack groups put on the roms when they are "dumped".
Go back and get a refund, without a save feature Advanced wars is unplayable as you can UNLOCK something like 50 maps and numerous charactors. As well as access an "advanced" campaiagn mode which is great challanging veriation.
Maniacal Dec 27, 2005, 11:25 AM There is no way I cn get a refund, it was a amrketstall, the next market is tomorrow. And i leave to catch a bus to the airportat 6:15am.
Oh well, at the time I only had one book left anyways. I also suspect the sound may not be origional either.... it is still good though. Just needs tosave....
I have been doing a blitz like style. But the enemy AI does a blitz like move too. I´ll keep trying though.
