The last time I played RT2 Gold was in the days of Windows 98...I tried to install it today on Windows XP.My problem is that the game doesn't load.
The loading picture shows up for a few seconds, but before the intro starts the windows closes without an error and I'm back on the plain desktop

Anyone out there who can play it under XP? Is there perhaps a special patch or setting for playing under XP? Thanks for any help in advance :)

Did you try compatablity mode?

Also, try downloading the patch.

Thanks for the hint with the compatibility mode, although it doesn't help me to get round the problem.Instead of a crash without error I get now the box with "This application has to be closed" (tried Windows 95 and Windows 98/SE).I also tried experimenting with only 256 colours and a lower resolution, but it all does not help.

The patch link is broken. Moreover, there seems to be no patch for PC Gold Edition; only for the other versions (vanilla, expansion and platinum).
