View Full Version : I can't install the game
refarm Dec 24, 2005, 03:57 PM Hi
I just got the game, but my dvd-drive won't recognize the dvd, when I put the disc in the dvd-drive nothing happens.
My dvd is a Hitachi gd-7500. Any suggestions?
robaughjr Dec 24, 2005, 06:27 PM Does drive recognize other dvds? Try cleaning disc. This might be a cpoy protection problem, but let's eliminate the dvd and the drive first.
refarm Dec 25, 2005, 12:06 AM Hi
I have done some testing with other dvds and got a mix result, some it reads but it seems that newer ones it can't read.
Funny thing is that after about more than an hour in the drive the game started and I managed to install the game and replied the patch. The enjoyment didn't last long though, then I got the out of video memory error fairly quickly. After the CTD I restarted the comp. and I was back where I started, the drive won't recognize the dvd. Is the driver my problem?
Petek Dec 25, 2005, 12:14 AM Check the manufacturer's web site for newer firmware. Updated firmware has resolved similar problems in the past.
refarm Dec 26, 2005, 03:47 PM Hi
Apparently I screwed up finding the right driver, and now It's even worse. After the usually one hour wait for locating the dvd the game won´t start at all.
I get the message: Please insert the Correct DVD-ROM, press ok and restart application.
My dvd is a Hitachi gd-7500 with firmware 0005 and I can't find any update on their website.
Are there any suggestions what to do?
Petek Dec 26, 2005, 04:01 PM If a new driver (not firmware) caused the problem, you should be able to roll it back to the prior one.
Open Device Manager (Control Panel, System, Hardware), and find your drive. Right-click on it and select Properties. Select the Driver tab. You should see a roll back option.
robaughjr Dec 26, 2005, 04:13 PM I searched around for you and found firmware 0008 here:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4TBSC7 Its still kinda old (2001) but newer than what you have. If that doesn't work you could do a system restore to a point where your dvd drive worked. Your driver might have went fubar at some point. Try rolling back driver (described in above post) before doing a system restore.
refarm Dec 26, 2005, 04:44 PM Hi
I'm running WinMe and I don't think there is a rollback option.
I will try to update to firmware 0008 and report back later.
Thanks
robaughjr Dec 26, 2005, 04:47 PM Sorry to add worse news on top of bad news but windows me is not supported. I have heard of people getting it to run with win 98 though, so have patience and keep trying.
Beets Dec 26, 2005, 10:37 PM I'm having a very similiar problem. Does your disk make wierd clicking sounds when you try to run it? I've still been able to play movies in the DVD, but the game disk won't run at all. I haven't been able to try the disk anywhere else so I can't rule out that I just have a bad disk but I've heard other people have had this problem so its not an isolate incedent. I haven't hear anything yet about what might cause this or how it can be fixed:(
RedsManRick Dec 26, 2005, 10:48 PM I'm having the exact same problem. Doesn't read at all. It tries to read, makes some odd noises and then nothing. I have a ...
Slimtype
DVDRW SOSW-852S
I don't know that much about upgrading "firmware", so I'm hesitant to install anything without some more research. Is this the likely issue?
refarm Dec 27, 2005, 01:30 AM Hi
Some good news and some bad news:
The good news: I succesfully upgraded to firmware 0008 and thats about it for the good news:
Tha bad news: Nothing has changed, it's still says (after an hours wait):
Please insert the Correct DVD-ROM, press ok and restart application.
Apparently there is a file called mscdrom dated back from 2000, which I updated with a version of more recent date, which caused all the trouble.
I located the old file and changed it back, but some other files must have changed too, but which one?
robaughjr: I know that WinMe isn't supported, but I had no problem running the demo so I thoght that the real game would as well.
Beets and redsmanrick: No, I don't hear any wierd clicking sounds, the drive works for an hour(lamp glows) an then all of sudden the game starts up. Before the driver screw-up the game ran not anymore though.
One other thing, when I run the program AIDA it doesn't show what kind of dvd-drive I have, it now only shows a question-mark as manufactur.
