Congrats on getting it done haarbal. I think there's a tutorial for flags in the Tutorial section.

I can't wait for Julia to steamroll the vanilla civs. :p

Works well, other than the flag problem. Are you planning on renaming them the True Elves and make more elven civs?

Haarbal

actually i was planning to rename them to high elves after i created some more civs :)

So far Fall from Heaven has no UUs, so I don't think haarbal wanted to unbalance anything....yet.

i like the yet part :P
i'm first going to make some fantasy style civs, say 10 and then i'll start on the UU's.
my plan for the elven (or high/true elven) is a elven hunter.
but like i said, first all the civ's, then the UU's

and yes, i'm too darn lazy to open a new tread, make screenshots, remove the elves from it and so on :), but still:

Traits: Aggressive and Industrious

humans almost done (flag isn't helping much :) ) but that's not much of a problem, because that's just a colour issue.
i'll put the undead and the dwarves in as we speak, so in an hour their done (hopefully).

Great news
my first 5 civ's are working
*click* (http://www.filegone.com/dm63)
install them the same way as the elven civ, overwriting files.
This pack contains 5 civs
-Elves
-Human
-Overlords
-Undead
-Dwarf

i'll open a new thread for this pack tomorrow, when i've got the flag fully operational (now some colours won't fill in, nothing big).

Overlord flag is black... :(

On the bright side I finished the Elf and Overlord diplomacy and text. I'm ironing out some bugs right now.

I'll d/l this new pack and work on the other civs tonight.

Here's the link if you want new diplomacy text:

http://www.filegone.com/r0f3

It's tiny and goes right into the FfH\Assets. The only thing getting overwritten are the placeholder text files that haarbal wrote.

Haarbal - any chance you could change the dwarf color from green to the wheat (or anything) that I sent you a while ago? Kind of confusing with the Elves also being that color.

if you look closely you see that it's black with dark grey :)
the black part should turn blue (alpha mask thingy).
got this same issue with the undead flag (black/grey should be purple/dark grey), human (black/yellow should be red/yellow) and the dwarfs (black brown should be green/brown).
the elf flag works somehow
i'll have a look at it later, first i'm going to play a game of civ :)

Well looks good so far. The only problem is that when I play as the undead, my flag becomes white as does the barbarian ones.

Haarbal
Dec 28, 2005, 07:32 AM
i've got that same problem here
maybe it comes forth of the alpha mask thingy or the colour
i'll see if i can get rid of it when i'm working on the flags

Haarbal - I can't wait to try this out when I get home from work. Argh, only about 7 hours and 20 minutes to go

I have had the same problem with flags with a scenario I was designing. I was able to fix it by adding an all black alpha channel and by then setting the "WhiteFlag=0" in the civilization infos xml "(or in the WBS file) to "WhiteFlag=1" for the cilizations with the affected flag. When I did that, it solved the blank flag/black flag problem and the new flag decals I created showed up properly, so that may be worth a shot if you want to try that.

New file to download for more diplomacy text. Same deal as before about installing:

http://www.filegone.com/ut1c

Added text for:

Declaring war
Peace
Accepting offer
Friendly no deal
Furious no deal
Offer Peace
Thanks

Lots still to do, including:
Friendly offer deal
Furious offer deal
Friendly cancel deal
Furious cancel deal
Friendly reject
Furious reject

It's amazing how many choices there are that Firaxis simply chose the generic text for all of their LHs.

i'll put in some extra thanks in the credits for the artists :)
but i think, because this is for non-commercial use, it's ok to use pictures from games (not completely sure though). if the pictures are copyright protected for non-commercial use, so are the names and a lot of Civ III mods use the names (dungeons and dragons mystara, warhammer).

Regarding the flags not showing, I think the dds files corresponding to each flag are not present in the assets\art\interface\TeamColor directory so they don't show. I've been looking everywhere and I can't find dwarfbutton.dds, elfbutton.dds, overlordbutton.dds, undeadbutton.dds and humanbutton.dds.

Once you get the civs done I'll get on the dialogue this weekend.

Haarbal
Dec 30, 2005, 07:34 AM
nope, but i'll put the lizzy's in after this pack
and my computer is still halfway through surgery :)
today's pack will probably take some more time. i'm currently working on civ4leaderheadinfos (big file if you have to add 12 leaders ;) ) and add the text files
i think i'll be done in an hour (maybe earlier)

One suggestion haarbal, maybe you should wait until Kael releases v0.7 before releasing your new version as well. I'm not sure how many files are shared, but it might make it easier on all concerned if you did that....even if it means waiting a bit longer.

It sounds like you have some missing variables in some of the folders. I hope you get it figured out.

You have a syntax problem in your XML. I do it all the time when Im copying and pasting and forget to turn a <element/> into a <element> after adding some data to it. Fixing it involves going through bit by bit through your latest changes looking for the mistake.

i used to get those all the time, but if you get an error about that, you get a file which contains the error and even the line in which the error is, but the problem is that everything had errors, even the civs that i didn't change
i think i'll mod the civs in one by one when i've got the new version from fall from heaven.

but if that would be the problem, the original civs+already working civs should work like normal. when i start my game and try to chose a civ, there are no leaders, so when i select america or so, there's no washington or roosevelt in there.

ehem... anyway... about civ requests, how about Ancients (living humanoid-tree race) ive always wanted to smash the head of an ork with an army of walking trees...Also Wood Elves, and then both races could share units, wood elves give Ancients Skilled archers in exchange for towering, living Titans of the forests...

Call me a hippy but those are my requests;)

What races do you need?

Haarbal
Jan 01, 2006, 09:29 AM
i know :)
but you never have enough names :)
if you can come up with a race to bind to the names, then they're ok
i used dark something names for the dark elves and the chaotics, the norse names for the merfolk and the halflings, the amazonian for the tigrans, elven names for the elves+centaur (probably i'm going to use them for treants/wood elves), orc names for the orc+goblins, dragon/lizard names am i using for the dragons (they will get a better name) and the lizardfolk.
so that leaves the minotaur/tauren.

Hey Haarbal: I came across a really annoying error while playing as the Elves. I can't change my civic options, at all unless the auto pop up appears, (which it dosnt always do.) also some of the XML files must be wrong because in game some of the civics, Republic for example, appear in xml format. i went to the origonal FFH thread and asked, and they seem to think it has something to do with this expanson mod. just wondering if you or anyone else have this problem, or even if you have made a patch for it, or if i need to reinstall the mod...

Other than that, this mod is on of the best new civilisation mods ive played (alongside Leaders and Superciv)

itll be even better when there are more fantasy civs...

weird.
i'll have a look at it, but i don't know what could be causing this. is this only with the elves or also with other civilizations? anyone got an idea what the problem is?

I don't recall the exact chronology, but I don't think haarbal's current release of 5 civs will run perfectly with FfH v.70 because of the fixes Kael made after the Firaxis 1.52 patch.

Once haarbal puts out the Fantasy pack (in a new thread, maybe?) you should be able to run FfH .70 and that pack effortlessly. Or until Firaxis puts out another patch....

well, kael made his mod work with the 1.52 patch and i altered the files in his mod, so it should run correct.
but i came up with something. when you played the elves, did you play with Julia? because one of her traits is spiritual, there is no anarchy, so you won't see anything bad happen while you change your civics. so far this is the only sollution i came up with and it's only 2 clicks and something has changed (i tried it just 5 minutes ago).

Haarbal, I am not sure if you have seen or heard of this elsewhere, but I just put in Fall from Heaven .7.. came over and grabbed your download labeled to match that new version, and dropped it into the FfH Mod folder.. but I have been unable to even open the game with this mod active since. It crashes to an error in a random temp file(whatever it was using to randomly cache the startup files, the file names and memory allocations are different every time, so..).

Anyway, love your civs and FfH, any extra ideas would be great. Using your .6 file with FfH .7 causes the game not even to load or call for an error.. it just stops loading the game and gives up :)

Cheers!

:: EDIT :: Ahh!! My bad. I found a bit of resident garbage I was playing with in the customassests that was messing with the startup! not sure what it was or what it was conflicting with. Anyway, carry on! ::

So how's this coming haarbal? I'm holding off starting a new game until I can play with Fantasy Civs. No pressure... :)

i was getting a brake from modding civilization for a few days :) .
but finally i'm getting the hang of the falg issue
at the moment i've modded in the orcs, goblin and tigrans, but im getting a lot of errors about diplomacy, so i'll put all of the civs in, to get it working correct. i'll open a new tread when i've finished them.

There would be a ton of xml errors if all of the civs weren't included...

I wonder if the diplomacy text can be broken up like the gametext and have individual files for each civ. That would make life easier.

Haarbal
Jan 03, 2006, 11:10 AM
:) it does :)
i only get xml error, while loading the game, about the leaders of the civs that are not yet included. the flags are up now, i only need to get the colours good and i'm a happy man. starting on the xml of the remaining 4 civs.

Great news. Once you get these 12 added we can set the default civs to non-playable and have good random fun with fantasy civs.

i think removing the vanilla civs now, won't make the game better, because then, you can't play a nice game on a huge map, because there are not enough civs.
the first 12 civs are finished, go check them out on this thread -Click- (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=3528466#post3528466)
