:sniper: :ar15: I'm probably going to buy a FPS soon, and am looking for suggestions as to what one to get. Right now i have my eye on halflife 2. Requirements are not an issue.

Doom 3 and ever interesting Painkiller :D Has somebody played Painkiller here? The game is quite slaughter, even though that it's brainless it still gets you into the killing spree mood. Action and fun are guaranteed

Free ones: Americas Army http://www.americasarmy.com/. Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory (downloadable almost anywhere you can find AA). These are fun and free FPSs, they take a while to download though. In ET there is a lot of ingame loading, and there is also a map editor for ET. My username is AK47 in ET. America's Army is fun, it is also very realistic. You go through training and try to complete realistic goals in online missions. Both games are online, although you can complete the training in AA offline.

Games you buy.... BF2!!!!!!!!!

I liked the medal of honour series, the earlier ones are also probably fairly cheap by now.

Half-Life 2 is a great game, and I can definately recommend it. Stunning graphics and a great physics system. It is a bit short, though.
If you seek a truly epic game, go for the old Deus Ex. Should be purchaseable for very little these days.

Call of Duty +COD: United Offensie. Wolfenstein Enemy Territory is fun too. Ok, these are the only FPS games I have and have played.
Unless you count running around Morrowind killing everyone with a bow and arrows.

Empkillyouall, when you say BF2 do you mean StarWArs BattleFront 2 or BattleField 2?

Half Life 2, the Call of Duty games and Battlefield 2 are pretty much the only FPS games I like. So I recommend them!

Both Half-life games are great (even HL1 though it's 6 years old).
Max Payne games are great too especially the story (well they are TPS games but the difference between those genres is minimal).
I've also played demos of Far Cry and Unreal Tournament 2004 and they seem to be good games.

Ya, I've seen someone playing MaxPayne before it looked cool.

Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam are both great. Battlefield 2 is probably equally awesome but my comp won't run it. :(

I don't like Battlefield Vietnam, seems like they didn't work as hard as they did on BF1942.

BF2 or CSS. CSS maybe isn't as good, but you get more satisfaction when you own people, generally with accusations of hacking etc.

BF1942 was good when it was new-ish, but it seems dated now, and the amount/quality of people playing it has fallen drastically.

Half-Life 2 or F.E.A.R. You can't go wrong with either.

Half-Life 2 or F.E.A.R. You can't go wrong with either.

Add to that list Doom 3 + Farcry and you pretty much got it covered.

Battlefield 2. They've already released a expansion to that and will release 2 "booster packs" with additional maps and weapons. There are already many mods in the works so the game probably will last.

Check out this trailer from the map Daqing Oilfields. This isn't very exaggerated at all (although not all maps looks as good as this one). My favourite part is hummer tries to escape from the chopper.

Cool. Thanks for responding. I'm wondering if anyone has ever played the game counterstrike for PC. It was my favorite game a few years ago.

Jan 03, 2006, 05:31 AM
Heh. What you might or might not know is that counterstrike is a mod for halflife. That game (and it's sequel) was mentioned in this thread several times.

Anyway, if you like that you should probably get counter strike: source. Personally I like battlefield2 better. I recently got the special forces expansion. Nice, teargas :)

Ya, Someone was saying that Counterstrike is a mod for half life 1. Anyway is there a difference between original counterstrike and counterstrike source? If so, what?

Gainy
Jan 04, 2006, 08:17 PM
CS Source looks better, the maps are slightly changed and the game physics is slightly changed. Essentialy the same though, but better.

The first Perfect Dark (for Nintendo 64) was probably the best. All the weapons were fun like the laptop gun and also who doesn't like playing as an alien named elvis that wears a vest that has the american flag on it? Second, would have to be Timesplitters 3. The harpoon gun frickin' rocks and the endless choices of characters to choose from makes for endless fun.

Aww, too bad the multiplayer was totally awesome! Also, thanks trooper I was trying to remember the name of that weapon. However, it sucks one of my N64 memory cards got corrupted and I lost all my* memory of the game:cry:!

*I still can play the game it is just the other saves still recognized are way far behind mine (I beat the game and got all the weapons and characters).

The only FPSs I enjoy a lot are the two Jedi Knight games, particularly the first one (Jedi Outcast), and the games Deus Ex and System Shock 2.
