View Full Version : GRAPHICS: Easy to spot Resources

This mod puts labels on the strategic and luxury resources to make them easier to spot. The strategic resources have a letter next to them (I for Iron, H for Horses, etc) as each type of resource is very important.

The luxury resources have a generic smiley face next to them to make them stand out more from the tiles around them. It isn't really important (compared to strategic resources) just which luxury it is, just so you know there is a luxury there.

Bonus resources are left with just their original graphics.

This mod allows you to easily spot available resources, and fits in well with Civ 3's graphical style. The city view smiley faces have also been altered to use the same smiley as the luxury resources, but is optional to install (but recommended ;) )

These are WONDERFUL! It is so nice to be able to see the coal hiding in the mountain :)

They are nice indeed. I would say it's one of the must-have mods. :goodjob:

Nice. I have atleast one modded graphic: coal. :)
I'll put a picture up later (it isn't much.. just that one tile - after finding absolutely *no coal* in my first Civ3 game!).

Basely it was too much art work on the map and the inabilitily to change the gamma of the video.

HI all
I'm new to this game, but I love it. Where do I instal the resource file now that I have downloaded it ?
Thanks

Put it in the C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art folder...

You may want to backup the original resources.pcx file first though...

I wish everyone would download this. Have you ever tried to see if your enemy had a source of coal or not when his territory is shadowed by fog of war? It's nearly impossible!

Even then it's still hard to see! I have like a 20/40 vision after so many hours staring at the screen. Anyway this mod will solve all those problems.

I've been noticing these graphics all over the forums in screenshots and it's taken me ages to find the right thread. It's a shame there isn't an index thread for this forum...

Anyway, there are amazing . They should be part of ptw like snoopy's mod :)

The link to this mod is not working. I'd really like to download it, so if you can fix/re-upload the file I'd appreciate it.

The file server appears to be down at the moment. I'll get it back up asap....

I installed the mod correctly but so far a strategic resource like iron doesn't have the "I" over it.

I saw this while I was going through the graphic updates and thought it was a great idea. After having some trouble with coal in one of my tournament games, I downloded this and, WOW, what a difference. As it turns out, I had two deposits (neither were connected) after all. Now I can't play a game without it.

Thanks.

I don't know if anyone is following this thread anymore, but I tried to install this mod and I see no difference. I put the two files in the proper locations (after backing up the originals), but the labels don't show up in the game...

Are you playing a C3C scenario? - Some have new resources.pcx.

BTW: maybe you like the one from my signature too.

:mischief: ;)

Thanks for the advice, Tae Shala. I have the Civ Gold edition (which includes PTW, but not Conquests). I've tried starting games from scratch (ie, normal, plain vanilla games, not scenarios or anything), but the labeled resource icons don't show up--which is odd, considering the fact that the original, non-labeled icons shouldn't exist anymore (at least not in their original directories).

As per the instructions in Skanky's download readme, I replaced the two files in the Art directory (resources.pcx) and the Art|city screen directory (CityIcons.pcx). The resources.pcx file is obviously the one that counts, and when I click on the file it pops up with the labels. The only logical explanation is that the game is drawing the resource icons from another location. At least, that's the only logical explanation to me. Perhaps someone else has some insight?

If you are using PtW you have to place it in the ...Civ3\Civ3PTW\Art directory.
I think you placed it into ...Civ3\Art. :hmm:

Yup, you're right. Of course, I just figured this out for myself. After my last post I thought, "Hmm... if the only logical explanation is that the game is pulling the file from another location, why don't I do a search for resources.pcx?" Lo and behold, there is the resources.pcx file in the Civ3PTW directory. I have never done any modification to the game before, so I wasn't aware of the difference. Now I know.

Thanks for your replies and assistance. If I had used my brain from the start I wouldn't have had to trouble you about it...

Are these resource graphics also available for C3C? And if, where to find them?

The whale looks strange. Did you make it for another terrain than the standard one?
