View Full Version : Naming Units

Since Civ4 lets you rename units, why don't we put a little of ourselves into the game by naming units after citizens? Imagine Robopig leading a worker crew, or Alphawolf leading cavalry into battle to protect ravensfire's cannon.

Two advantages:
1. Participants will literally be in the game. Their opinions might even be influenced by their unit. ("Wait, if we go to war, I'll be one of the first ones in..." *gulp*)
2. Users will pay special attention to their units & the area around them, which means less units forgotten or sitting idle.

Two potential problems:
1. The DP will name suicide cats after users he despises.
2. The same username will accidently be assigned to two units, causing some confusion about which one's which.

See this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=150310) already going for naming stuff!

Generally a discussion thread is required for things such as this mike :)

Ahh - I hit this after the thread was created, but before the poll when up. There wasn't anything in the OP to indicate a poll.

Ah well.

Well, these things naturally turn into discussion threads anyway. Consider it a subdiscussion thread, I say.

I think that this could be a good idea.

Alphawolf leading cavalry into battle

I believe that to be a very apt comparison.

If we do choose to name units after citizens, we should at least allow the citizens the options to opt out, specify what kind of unit they want named after them, or specify the form of name to be used. We need some kind of process defined for how names are chosen and used, in the interest of fairness to all.

The result of this poll might necessitate a JR or possibly a CoL amendment.

I agree with DaveShack, but I see no reason for an amendment.

Or better yet, we just ask whoever is in charge of the military units to handle it. No need for new rule.

I stated my opinion in the discussion-thread for it in the citizen's forum (I couldn't be bothered to check where it is right now). To me it's not such a big issue but I think just taking famous citizens is sort of uncreative... My proposal was far more difficult ;) , but more fun as well, IMO.

If there IS interest about my former proposal, I'll look for it! Lemme know...
