A stupid question for SMACers, but I only played it frequently:

Is there a Hotseat-MP? I'm only able to find network-MP!?

The original SMAC has hotseat if you get the 4.0 patch, available at http://firaxis.com/smac/downloads.cfm

Yep, I checked out my smacx, it has hot seat. My smac installation on another computor is not patched (I have all those changes on the one with smacx). I have competetion for use of the more powerful platform that I have smacx on and keep less demanding games and version on older platforms that are not in demand.

thx all for answering a newbie question. I bought SMAC only few months before Civ3 came out and only played one game, because I am not a huge sci-fi fan and thought Civ would be better. But I think I give it another try, I like some ideas of SMAC a lot.

Yep... give it another try...

At first, the game is somehow intimidating, with all that information and options and sci-fi stuff... but you'll get the hang of it quickly and you'll see that, in some aspects, it far surpasses Civ3 in innovation and rewarding gameplay.

I have not played SMAC lately, but plan to do it as soon as possible.
