View Full Version : Term 1 - Designated Player Pool
DaveShack Jan 01, 2006, 03:16 PM The term 1 Designated Players, in order of play, are:
DaveShack
Chieftess
Blkbird
Ravensfire
Octavian X
Stilgar08 Chieftess and Blkbird, please post your agreement or disagreement with using the "first accepted nomination" tiebreaker method for this term, even though it isn't in the CoL.
Chieftess Jan 01, 2006, 05:30 PM Well, I agree with it.
Blkbird Jan 01, 2006, 06:49 PM Chieftess and Blkbird, please post your agreement or disagreement with using the "first accepted nomination" tiebreaker method for this term, even though it isn't in the CoL.
Considering I *am* the one who has suggested exactly that as a CoL Amendment (here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=3520385#post3515805)), I naturally agree with it.
DaveShack Jan 02, 2006, 08:31 PM Fellow DPs, I need your help with an experiment. I have created a game using a Demogame mod (using advanced->load mod) and would like to see if you can load the save correctly without having that mod installed. It's not necessary for everyone to do this, just one will do.
edit: attachments not working  , uploading instead...

Stilgar08 Jan 03, 2006, 01:36 AM I'll check and get back to you! (patch 1.52 is fine, isn't it??)

I don't have the mod installed and it doesn't work...
I attached the error message, clicking the "Ok" button just restarts the game and tries again, still not working.
ravensfire Jan 22, 2006, 08:36 AM DS - confirming Black_Hole's results. The mod has to be there, or you can't get it to work.

DaveShack Jan 22, 2006, 09:16 AM Thanks for the feedback on the save, that was exactly what I was trying to determine. I've since learned that's the expected result.
There isn't a significant amount of support for starting over, so unless that changes the mod will have plenty of time to be enhanced before the next game starts. I had been investigating how to log the type of info included in Blkbird's session 2 narrative.
DaveShack Jan 22, 2006, 09:22 AM The following was posted to Blkbird's turn thread, but it is good advice for DP's in general.
I really like the narrative log, it's superior to many SG logs I've seen! :D After working through downloading the all-in-1 zip file I was very happy to see that it's not just the beginning, middle, and end save, but there is also a save for every turn! While it's possible some of us may not want to do that, it might be a good idea.
Areas for improvement
It's less important at present because there aren't a lot of preliminary instructions to do, but there is a strong tradition of doing those instructions and then posting a "turn 0" save from the end of that prep work, before the first full turn of the session starts.
Generally people prefer to see a link to the actual file and not a link to the thread / post where the file is found. This is especially important with screenshots. It's also generally better to put the full-size image instead of the thumbnail.
Putting the text of the high level summary in the instruction thread gives people a nice closure to the session. Ravensfire is now UP, Octavian X is ON DECK. If we don't dawdle we can get in these two sessions, after all there are still 9 full days in the month. Which reminds me, gotta head over to the law library and see if there are any minimum / maximum time restrictions on when the next session should be...

Is this the only problem with the mod? In the Resignation thread you posted a problem about loading the save with a FAT32 filesystem.

There is a protected games bug where the resources being protected must be listed in the same order on the game creator's system and the other player's system. Some systems inherently return filenames in a different order, and the checking routine finds a mismatch when that happens, and won't load the save. If/when a new patch is released, there is a fairly good chance that this bug might be fixed in such a patch. ;)

If the people want to restart and still want to autolog, perhaps we could start a poll to see how many people use FAT32 and want to DP
Also, could I see your mod?
edit: Nevermind that poll idea, Furiey has already stated she is on a FAT32 filesystem
Furiey Jan 22, 2006, 12:43 PM I have Window ME, but apart from that can see floodplains in the fog due to my old GEForce 2 MX400. So I probably shouldn't DP anyway as it's one thing to have a quick look at the save and not scroll into the fog (which is when I'll see floodplains), but quite another to try and play the game and not scroll into the fog. A least I get more than just toast in the yield icons now.
DaveShack Jan 22, 2006, 01:56 PM The poll was started anyway just to see if it's a widespread problem.
I'll be happy to distribute that mod once I figure out how to tell you to install it. ;)

Why don't you post that in the bug reports thread along with your video/computer specs? It'll help when the next patch comes...

I have the same problems you do Furiey...(same exact card). If I can interrupt this thread for one quick second - Furiey, are you able to read city names? Mine appear blue and unlegible...
Furiey Jan 23, 2006, 12:09 PM Yes, everything looks fine apart from the floodplains and an occaisional stange triangle across the map. I did get the white eyes with patch 1.52 but discovered that went away if I took low resolution textures off (it had defaulted to on with the patch). Interestingly, none of my problems appear to be due to ME.
@CT, many people already have.
