Hi, and this is 1 of the 2 mods I am working on for CIV 4. It's still in production, so no releases yet.

Current Features:
-The seven religions are replaced by seven well-known (at least to Americans) political parties.
-The buttons and icons of said political parties.
-New Tech requirements.
-Appropriately retitled Religious Advisor (political advisor), missionaries (spokesmen), and priests (politicians).
-Renamed the righternmost civics for political themes.
-Diplomacy texts, religious buildings, and others undergoing change to political theme.
-New (though corny) sounds for the Parties.
-Civelopedia entires for political parties and changed civics. (though admittedly snurched from wikipedia)

Current bugs and gameplay issues:
-some text is now only showing tags TEXT_KEY_POPUP_BLAHDEBLAH. Will investigate.
-couple graphics bugs.
-The timeline order political parties are founded is generally accurate except that the Libertarian Party always gets founded waaay first.
-All political civics are available by the time the first political party is founded. Must rebalance tech requirements.
-Had some trouble coming up with original buildings, so they started to turn into events, institutions, and absract ideas.
You'll see in one screen the names are so long they overlap eachother.

Planned Features:
-fix above issues.
-New Buttons for Political Buildings.
-Replace "hands praying" button with a podium or something.
-New Victory Condition "Political Victory": One of the winner's founded political parties achieves 51% influence.
-Replace the screen that pops up when you found a political party.
-Civelopedia entries for the Political party concept, and all those buildings and stuff.

Hmm, this might cause as much or more heat as religion. Looks like a good start. :goodjob:

The Democratic, Republican and Nazi parties are too nation-specific. They should be replaced by something like Conservative Party, Fundamentalist Party and Fascist Party.

Lol, you had various kinds of Nazi parties, you had one in Brazil, Japan and even in Iran. Maybe Christian Zionists in Israel pledge a Nazi coup to bring Palestine back to its Christian identity roots or that white colonists in Mali start up a Nazi regime and kill all the blacks!

Um, your communist party sounds more like a mutated Chinese Communist Party rather then a Communist party though:crazyeye:

I have an idea, what about a special unit for the Nazi's and Communists: a Frauder, it doesnt add their own ideology but it does remove other parties infleunce.

I'd recommend replacing Nazis with fascists and using a bundle of sticks. Swastikas are banned in many countries. (Although the hammer and sickle and fasces are also, to a much lesser extent, verboten in some places)

Also -- You might want to take out "The" for all of the parties as it causes them to overlap. Otherwise, very nice job. :)

So what ? It's just a freeware mod, he's not selling it and u always have the choice to not download it ;)
But speaking about nazi-fasci thing, the problem is that fascism was more common as nazis, so i'm not against replacing nazism with fascism.

Anyway, great mod idea :)

For the names, you should say "Democrats" instead of "The Democratic Party" because a lot of the names are overlapping.
BTW, great idea.

I think more generalized names that would be recognizable across the world and be relavent at different times in history would be nice.

Liberals, Conservatives, Populisists, Facists, Comunitsts, Greens, Nationalists

You know, I haven't really been interested in buying Civ IV, but I just might for this mod. Those screenshots really got my attention.

That would require python.

I love it! That said, there are a couple of suggestions I could make. For instance, renaming this mod/thread "American Political Parties Mod (Religion Replacement)" would be a good start. Also, for what it's woth, drop "The" and "Party" from the Political Advisor screen. I think folks would be okay with just "Democrat, Republican, Nazi, Labor, Libertarian, Communist, Green". If it helps any, you could rename that screen Political Party Advisor.

But good thinking pal.
