View Full Version : Extra Religions
Crayton Jan 05, 2006, 01:31 PM This is a simple mod that alters the Religion Advisor's screen so that more religions can fit. When adding religions sometimes the new religions go off the right end of the screen. Not anymore! This mod has room for 2 whole rows of religions. If you work hard you can fit 20, 22, or even 24 religions on the screen!
Just unZip this file into your mod's "Assets\Python\Screens" folder Happy downloading!
File updated -after 59 views
-"No State Religion" fixed
-top/bottom overlaps fixed
-Tip use the constant self.DX_RELIGION to adjust right/left spacing
Red Door Jan 05, 2006, 03:03 PM This should help religion modders a whole lot.
Fachy Jan 05, 2006, 07:05 PM It has been brought up that religions are already too much! I mean, assuming you play with 10 AIs, who would want every country to have a seperate religion? It kinda removes the "taste" of religion creating alliances and breaking wars when you cease to have nations sharing the same religion
Krupo Jan 05, 2006, 10:09 PM Hence it's a mod and you're not obligated to use it. :)
Following the sidebar, in my current game I'm having so much fun converting Germany to Buddhism (I'm Spain). Every city that converts is more spies and more money for me. Hurray!
RED DIAMOND Jan 05, 2006, 10:13 PM I could see this being used in government or religious mods. Good job.:goodjob:
jollyroger3 Jan 06, 2006, 01:12 AM Well - I personally like this idea - usually more to choose means more interesting game :D
Fachy Jan 06, 2006, 02:17 PM Krupo I was merely commenting and voting in the poll. "Not obliged to use" is something that could be said on any mod, does that mean any negative comments are taboo?
D. Minky Jan 06, 2006, 08:49 PM There needs to be a way to remove a religion from a city as well as spread religions... that might help alleviate some of the problems caused by having more than 7 religions in a game.

There its called the Inquisitor mod.
Fachy Jan 08, 2006, 10:55 AM But the AI can't use it I think
Crash757 Jan 08, 2006, 11:35 AM But the AI can't use it I think
Why ?
Crayton Jan 08, 2006, 12:35 PM Okay, It looks like the complete mod I was going for will no longer use 1 'minor' religion per civ.
So, I took the time to improve this file and make it more edit friendly.
Currently:
There are two rows of religions
"No State" religion always appears in the bottom row
It is easy to modify the left/right spacing of religions by modifying the self.DX_RELIGION constant
"????" and "----" replace some of the longer default phrases such as "Not Founded" in order to save room.
Unfortunately, I have no current need for such a mod so you guys can improve upon this as you need to. I'll check for feedback periodically so talk it up! :)

LOL, fair enough - I didn't even notice the poll until after posting my comment.
RED DIAMOND Jan 08, 2006, 10:00 PM WOW! now that an expansion of the religion screen!
Fachy Jan 09, 2006, 07:26 AM Crash: Coz the AI does not "understand" how beneficial that is, it not being in the programming
Dusty4prez Jan 10, 2006, 04:11 PM Wow is that screenshot an actual mod. If it is could you post it >.> I would like it.
Aussie_Lurker Jan 10, 2006, 05:22 PM Although I think the mod is a VERY neat idea, and definitely feel there is room for more religions, I don't think Protestant and Orthodox need to be seperate faiths-but can as easily be dealt with in Religion Civics. Just a thought.
Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.
Dusty4prez Jan 10, 2006, 05:30 PM Waaaiiitt will that be a part of the mod?
The Great Apple Jan 10, 2006, 06:06 PM Why don't you expand the panel slighty, and make the cities panel a bit smaller? It looks kinda messy at the moment.
kfx Jan 10, 2006, 06:52 PM All of those religions look really neat, and if that mod works, could you please post it?
Crayton Jan 10, 2006, 09:53 PM Oops.
I did delete the mod that includes all of the religions. I can recreate it in an hour or so (mostly copy and pasting). The mod originally had the 7 "world" religions along with 19 "national" religions. Anglicanism = England, Orthodox = Russia, Catholicism = Spain, Protestantism = America.
Naturally the names were shortened to fit on the screen. I eventually figured out I could get the desired effect by creating a single "Pagan" religion to simulate all of the "national" religions. Sadly, these many names will no longer exist but the mod will be coming out soon.
The mod in the first post is just the advisor's screen, which compresses the religions that are in the game. If you applied this to a default mod, then the 7 in-the-box religions will appear on the far left. Of course, you can adjust the spacing between the religions by editting the self.DX_RELIGION variable within the file.
The Great Apple, marvelous idea! I was trying so hard to concentrate the religions that I forgot to look at ways to expand the whole panel (Duh). If I ever resurrect this mod I'll be sure to make those a better fit. Thanks, and if you actually do modify this mod in that way (or in any way), feel free to post it. I don't need any acknowledgment for adding a 2nd row. :)
Oh, and for fun... Who wants to guess which civ corresponds to which religon. ;)
Dusty4prez Jan 10, 2006, 09:59 PM oooh if you can please do
Master Kodama Feb 08, 2006, 12:26 PM Thanks, this mod is awesome! I will definitely find a use for it.
I know people are going to complain that they would prefer fewer religions rather than more (hey, if you don't want more religions, no one will force you to add more), but I like to play with lots of civs at once. The difference between 7 religions between 18 civs and 8-10 religions between 18 civs is not going to wreck the game. Not only could this be useful for a random game with 18 or so civs, especially if I reduced religion spread rate so that newer religions could have more of a chance, but this should also be useful if I ever make an 18 civ scenario that requires more than 7 base religions.
