View Full Version : Looking for PitBoss game

I'd like to try PitBoss but I only saw 2 games started on this forum so far. If anyone has a spare machine they can start a direct-IP game on, count me in :)

I'm trying to test my PB server via Direct IP. Try to join at {PM me for IP address and password}, and let me know if you're successful. It's simultaneous turns, so log in, choose a leader, and let's see if this works!

Thanks!

EDIT: Changed IP and game type to simultaneous turns.

I'm trying to test my PB server via Direct IP. Try to join at 192.168.0.100, password Myst, and let me know if you're successful. Choose Ghandi as your leader, if he's available, since he has the first turn.

Thanks!

That's not your external IP address.

Go to www.whatismyip.com to find out what your external IP is. Also, that means you're behind a NAT and will need to forward the port that PitBoss uses to your computer.

Does anyone know which port PB uses?

Pitboss uses the same port at Civ 4, which is 2056.

Also, I'd suggest using the simultaneous turns feature, otherwise the pitboss server is really no better than PBEM as you'll still have wait for someone in the sequence to turn in their turns.

Cool! Let's see how well this plays out. I've read there's a bug with civ passwords. Make sure you don't try to set your e-mail address from within the game (ALT-D is the command, I believe), and we should be able to avoid this bug.

I'm in as Qin, this will be fun. Thanks for hosting Mysterio! :goodjob:

After my turn the game stays on "waiting for other civilizations", which I assume is normal.

No problem! This is as much of a learning process for me as it is for those who decide to join. :)

Yup, that's normal. I'm interested in seeing what the Pitboss does after everyone's taken their first turn or the timer runs out. Did you all receive the Message of the Day from the Pitboss?

Joined as caesar. Have you guys alreadly had several turns? It only let me take one. Also, will we be ok if we put our email address under "Your details" and not ctrl-D? Also, how long is the timer? Is it a full 24 hours?

This is the first turn.

Using the menu option to set your e-mail has also been shown to cause the PW bug.

The timer is 24 hours. There are 19.5 hours remaining on the first turn. Two civ slots are still available.

Argh, this just happened to me, I knew about not setting in-game email/password but I didn't know that just opening the Alt+D window would do that. I tried the MD5 trick shown in the main PitBoss thread and it didn't work. Can you kick me out so I can re-join? Thanks for letting me know at the same time you do it so I can log back in immediately.

Doh! You've been kicked. Log back in and claim your civ ASAP.

There's one civ still available (Huayna Capac) with 12 hours and 27 minutes left on the first-turn timer! As soon as someone claims that civ, we'll have a full game and be on to the second turn!

Even if we could set our e-mail addresses, I'm not sure the e-mail notification feature is working in 1.52. I read in the PB thread that it's not enabled in 1.52. I'll try to post here when a new turn's begun, but logging into the game every now and then wouldn't be a bad idea.

Looks like we have a full game, now. A new turn is available, and the server's back up. I'm trying to figure out why I got an e-mail error after the 4000BC turn was finished.

Yeah, I always leave my PC on anyway, so setting up a PB game wasn't a problem.

The PB server is separate from the actual game. I can play the game with the server running in the background. :)

There are 2 hours left on the turn timer, and Solomon still hasn't taken his turn, nor has he posted in this thread. If he doesn't take his turn before the timer expires, I'll kick him. I'd expect everyone should be able to take at least one turn every 12 hours. That's reasonable, no? I'm wishing I set the timer to 12 instead of 24 hours.

Also, I'll post here when a new turn starts. However, a new turn may start while I'm sleeping (typically 05:00 - 13:00 GMT) or away from my PC. Those would be the times you'd want to log in to see if the turn's advanced.

Make sure you end your turn, and then use the menu to either exit to desktop or to the main menu. The saving is done on the PB server (my PC).

Ok, folks. Since the e-mail notification code in the PB code isn't working, scree developed an app that will send e-mail notifications of new turns to all players. The server admin (which is me) only runs scree's app (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3565173&postcount=1), but his app requires the e-mail addresses of all players. So, please send me either a PM or post here with your e-mail address. Once I receive all of them, I'll send out a test e-mail or two to make sure it's working. :)

Sweet! I just tested scree's app with my e-mail address only, and it sent me an e-mail with the subject Civ4 - New Turn: Mysterio10000's Game - 3900 BC! :goodjob: Get me your e-mail addresses ASAP!

Don't worry, I'm active. I just figured in the early turns it wouldn't hurt to take a couple turns at a time, seeing as nobody is going to be attacking right away anyhow. I'll take the turns more often now though.

How do you take a couple turns at a time?

Do you mean you queue unit and build orders, and then feel you don't need to log in to end your next and subsequent turns because of the queues? If so, then you not logging in to simply end your turn is forcing the 24-hour timer to count down to zero. That makes the pace of this PB game akin to a PBEM game, which isn't what we want. When their able, everyone needs to log in when a new turn is announced, even if all they need to do is end their turn.

Edit: Thanks for the e-mail address. I've added it to the notification app.

After messing with my port settings on my router, and was no longer able to connect to the PB server. So, I had to shut it down and reboot my PC. However, I had the e-mail notification app enabled when I shut down the PB server, so it thought a turn had been taken. But since the Turn field in the e-mail is blank, it's a bogus e-mail. Ignore the e-mail you just received and any future ones with a blank Turn field. :)

It might be a good idea, since the email is configurable, to include that in all of the notification emails. This would be especially useful for those in multiple games. Then we could just copy and paste it instead of having to type it each time.

An idea:scan: : may be we could try to find a moment when everybody is online at the same time. Then try to make a few turns (maybe for an hour)simultanously like in a normal multiplayer game. Then again continue the game in a normal pitboss timing. Propably we're all on a different time zone but maybe it would be possible to find an hour that we could all agree upon.

Mysterio I think you canceled the game and forgot to mention it on the original thread...

Game canceled:

New game for GMT -5 to -8:

That's strange. I could have sworn I replied to this post. There would have been no reason for me to start a new thread, which wouldn't make much sense. Very odd.

Sorry, jhauser--I pulled the plug on the PB game, since it was taking too long (some people wouldn't take their turn until 2-3 hours were left on the 24-hour turn timer). I just started a new game on a 12-hour timer, but all the slots arre taken. :(

I had taken 3 turns in one day, and it seemed that the turns were popping up as fast as possible. Never waited more than 20 hours. Ah well.

20 hours is a long time to wait to take a turn. That approaches the time it takes for a PBEM turn to get back to you.
