We're just here for the beer and snacks.

We like to have fun and raise havoc.

We're educated anarchy peeps.

We don't take ourselves serially unless we have to to win the game.

Idiocy is a calling, not a philosophy.

If you're not sure you belong here, you probably don't.

Our founding fathers are moi, whomp and tubs.

We're all old (but for some deranged reason, we seem to appeal to teenagers), but we do have fun. Several of us have met F2F.

We can recruit like an SEC or Colorado football team.

One is not a complete idiot until all the required parts are found and installed.

As a Major Idiot, I'd like to say idiocy spreads faster than any religion. We span the globe baby. In fact, I'd suggest you have one in your neighborhood.

Let me also say we're old school CFC (LK rules, dastardly deeds etc) so there will be no cheating to gain status and power. We're idiots, we don't know how to cheat.

Remember rule #6 of idiocy "never take yourself too seriously".....and there are no other rules.

I guess I should sign up for this since I apparently helped find idiocy. I think that the idiocy started with AK, then just hopped to Chicago and Virginia to find suitable hosts in Whomp and myself.

We proudly wear our idiot colors (mainly because the crayons don't wash out well).

Will you be ruling a wicked city ???

Please tell us more of your grand design

I for one would like pubs, pubs, pizza, pubs, jello wrestling rings, pubs, pubs, dwarf throwing arenas, pubs, pubs, public urinals and pubs ... oh and many breweries, wineries, distilleries :D

The town would preferably have no bell towers nor town cryers  ... lets have a quiet town, especially in the mornings

Tubby Rower
Jan 12, 2006, 06:04 AM
not wicked. Just a bit fun.

dwarf-tossing is definately allowed. The last time someone outlawed that fine sport, the drarves were more upset than the patrons because apparently it pays pretty well to be tossed about.

I also think that you mentioned pubs..... well what would a good idiot partee city be without pubs.

Speaking of cities, how do we rest control of a burb? I might have to PM someone who creates worlds in order to find out the gritty of the nitty.

Pentium
Jan 12, 2006, 09:26 AM
Thanks, WHomp.

Is gambling allowed here? I mean, dwarf-tossing is one thing, but if we spend all our grain and sheep just to bet on kebaba, we may go bankrupt :(

if we spend all our grain and sheep just to bet on kebaba, we may go bankruptNot if your good :D

I got a message back from Chieftess and apparently Governors (managing 3-5 cities) are appointed initially then later elected. We need to swamp a poll when those come out. I'm fine with a mayorship and those are appointed by the governors. So I might try to befriend an opponent in a governor's race and then get him to give us a city.

Whomp
Jan 12, 2006, 09:45 AM
Pentium we will not necessarily be making the bets. We will be booking the bets for the citizens. We will call this....umm....vigerish. Here's how it works....

Joe Triumverate makes a bet that a warrior will lose 0.6 hps (we'll call this the betting line or the odds) against a lion and bets 50 bushels of corn. Stevie Hawk Dove bets 50 bushels he won't. We take both bets and the loser pays us 10% to take their action aka vigerish. One of them we pay 50 bushels and the other pays us 55 bushels. We gain 5 bushels. Capiche? :D

Tubby Rower
Jan 12, 2006, 09:47 AM
I've updated my first post in this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3559828&postcount=5)to reflect a members list. This could come in handy when convincing some one to appoint me a mayor.

Beorn-eL-Feared

And what are our goals?

Whomp
Jan 12, 2006, 07:11 PM
Tubby would like to be a governor. Our goal is to make that happen. Anyone else who would like to pursue further responsibilites will be supported with conviction by way of our bloc of votes. Our numbers will expand. Bank on it.

We will disagree, rant, fight, kick, scratch and claw at each other but when we come to an agreement we will show the power of that conviction.

My ambitions are modest (running Kebaba) and likely no more than helping the individuals accomplish whatever it is they would like to pursue.
What are your ambitions? Are you interested in a governmental position? We can help.

IamSid

fe, do you have MSN yet? I realize that you have dial-up, but put it on an overnight download.

btw, I've been snooping in the other party threads to get a feel for who has the greatest chance of getting us a mayorship. It seems as though the Hawk-Dove party posted a recruitment message in the Imperialist's thread (AlphaWolf's party). Apparently they have eldars (we just have old Whomp) and 3 out of the 7 people running that party were the DL accounts with the DL accounts holding 4 out of 8 positions of authority. talking about stacking the deck!!!

Do you have room for another idiot to join the partee? I've brought Ipecac for a seriously good time... We won't need the toilet paper :D

Being an idiot as such, I have to ask that I gather I would do the following:

1. Join Team KISS here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups)
2. Register in the Citizen Registry thread.
3. Spread the word of idiocy far and wide for many more to join up...

Is this correct?

Do we need MSN? If so, that is not a problem.

1. You're welcome to join KISS, but you need to sign up here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=124141) first. Btw, Team KISS and the MTDG is for Civ 3 not civ4.
2. correct and join the DemoGame user group here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups)
3. No need it spreads itself ;)

MSN is not necessary, but we get on there sometimes. In Team KISS we have a thread inside there that has everyone's MSN address.

I've looked through the other party threads and the Hawk-Dove party is anemic at 6 members. The Inlightened Imperialist Party has numerous members but only a few non-DL members seem to be active.

That sounds a little bit like Cow Tipping, where, in the dark of night, you sneak into a paddock and find some cows asleep. Now us idiots know that cows all sleep standing up so all you have to do is to sneak up to one, give it a mighty hard push, and it will fall over and wake up at the same time, all the while MOO'ing like crazy as I doesn't know what the hell is going on. Though there are several words in the ancient Egyptian language for grain, one term in particular graphically describes the significance of grain in the life of the people. This word was ankhet, describing corn as "that which gives life."

Most farmers derived their income from a mixture of crop-growing and animal husbandry. The richest were the cattle-owners. Herds were the subject of a biannual census, portrayed in the tomb paintings of Nebamun in Thebes and in models from the tomb of Meketra. Cattle-breeding was the height of animal husbandry in Egypt and beef the most prestigious meat. Sheep and goats were more accessible meat-sources for less affluent households, goats being more adaptable to the available scrub grazing, and were easier to milk than cows.
Workers employed in non-agricultural jobs found pig-breeding a lucrative industry. Pigs formed part of the meat diet, as attested by the discoveries of pig bones within human settlements.
Cattle and goats were also kept for their hides, and sheep for their wool. Cow-skin was used to make the seats of chairs. Oxen were important as draught animals.

Ok... those already approved to vote here is the two polls

Startup research strategy (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=154322) - I voted to go Agriculture
Capital location (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=154314) - I voted where it is

I'm not sure which is best. There could be a valid arguement made for any research path. Moving one tile to the right will allow 1 more river tile in the 21-tile radius, but it'll eat up a FP. 2-tiles to the right doesn't make sense to me because I follow the philosophy that inorder to waste a turn on turn #1 you better know why you need to move and know what you are getting by moving.

EDIT:: also there is a vote to amend the constitution to allow impeachment of governors instead of having to be stuck with some yahoo.

So true Daghieboy.

I would like to add a story Tubby tells. It's about "The jar of life" (with a Whompalicious twist)

A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.
He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into he jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was. The students laughed. The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

"Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognise that this is your life.

The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, and your children - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else, the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing.

There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the car. Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

But then... A student then took the jar which the other students and the professor agreed was full, and proceeded to pour in a glass of beer. Of course the beer filled the remaining spaces within the jar making the jar truly full.

The moral of this tale is - no matter how full your life is, there is always room for BEER!

There is a chatlog and saves for turn 0, 5, and 10 here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3593128&postcount=11). There is also a screenshot from turn 5 I believe. Also it seems as though Blkbird is pretty overbearing. He got modded twice in about an hour  He was also trying to circumvent official instructions about the scouting by saying that in the instructions it refers to a "Scout" and not a "warrior". I'll have to try harder to be at the next one to have a little idiotic input mingled in with his napoleonistic comments.

Some random and select quotes from the turnlog for those idiots who can't be bothered reading it :D :

[19:01] <!Chieftess> Boaring Wallow is the name. Nice name, too.

[19:16] <+Blkbird> i call for a spot vote on moving towards the hut
[19:16] <+TSteamer> I second
[19:16] <+TSteamer> (if legal)
[19:16] <!Chieftess> I haven't moved it yet.
[19:16] <+Blkbird> since it doesn't contradict the instructions of the SoW
[19:16] <!Chieftess> Wait for the save. I'm uploading it.
[19:16] <+Blkbird> which is invalid because there is on scout
[19:17] <+uubry> he was refering to the warrior SCOUTING
[19:17] <+Blkbird> i mean "no scout"
[19:17] <!Chieftess> You know, I think donsig would do this... :)
[19:17] <+TSteamer> where are you putting it chieftess
[19:17] <+GeorgeOP> you *think* he was refering to the warrior
[19:17] <+Blkbird> uubry: that's your interpretation, which i disagree
[19:17] <+uubry> i know, i'm just translating
[19:17] <+GeorgeOP> I say go pop the hut, then go white water rafting
[19:17] <+Blkbird> uubry: dz did wrote "Scout" with capital "S"
[19:18] <+TSteamer> its silly to think he meant a scout after seeing the
screenshot
[19:18] <+Blkbird> that's not a short name for "warrior scouting"
[19:18] <+Blkbird> a "Scout" with capital "S" is Scout, period
[19:18] <!Chieftess> save uploaded.
[19:18] <+TSteamer> wow, this is just like the real life american congress.
[19:18] <!Chieftess> getting the link
[19:18] <!Chieftess>

[19:27] <!Chieftess> You people are worse than cyc, donsig, eyrei combined. :p
[19:27] <!Chieftess> (old demogame humor)

[19:43] <+uubry> where in relation to warrior
[19:43] <+Blkbird> where did you move the warrior?
[19:43] <!Chieftess> NW
[19:43] <+Blkbird> why???
[19:43] <!Chieftess> I moved the warrior 1 SW to swing around.
[19:43] <+Blkbird> wait a sec
[19:43] <+Blkbird> you're too fast
[19:43] <+GeorgeOP> how long before warrior is built?
[19:44] <!Chieftess> 12 turns
[19:44] <+Blkbird> where did you move the warrior after save?
[19:44] <+uubry> too fast?!?!?
[19:44] <!Chieftess> I moved the "scouting" warrior SW. He saw a hut to
the NW.
[19:44] <!Chieftess> That's where I'm going. :)
[19:44] <+Blkbird> uubry: yeah too fast for us to intervent
[19:44] <!Chieftess> That's the nature of a turnchat...
[19:44] <+Blkbird> Chieftess: yeah that sounds good
[19:44] <+uubry> just say stop
[19:44] <!Chieftess> You'll get used to it when you start seeing 3 hour
turnchats.
[19:45] <!Chieftess> And even those pale in comparison to some turnchats.
[19:45] <!Chieftess> Right fur? :)
[19:45] <+TSteamer> scouting warrior
[19:45] <+Blkbird> i don't mind 3 hour turnchat

AND then next there is an obscure report on a wounded scout and who knows where the warrior that we ended up producing is and what adventures we had ... and what the F are we researching and producing at the moment in Boaring Wallow ... and i'd bloody well like to see a picture of our city ... and the world ... and were we as citizens not going to be consulted to name units and stuff ... and and and [pissed]

... <deep breathing> ... better now after the rave but still WTF :crazyeye:

deep breathing is good.

I'll load the game and post some screenies tonight hopefully.

Here's what I have gathered of the first 10 turns.
Capital is tentatively named Boaring Wallow (subject to change if it doesn't win the election)
initial warrior went to the GH first and popped a scout
warrior is scouting to the north (I think)
scout went to the SE
we were 1 tile away and a Mongolian scout popped the GH before we could get there
scout has 0.7 strength but has a promotion that should boost his strength
research set to Animal Husbandry
BW is working a Flood plain

I posted a thread about the build queue (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=154799). Since no one (except beta testers) can claim expertise in starts I think that it's a valid discussion to which I am partial to my idea but am very much open to others. A poll will be posted tomorrow about this. If I have to do it myself. I've been reading up on the polling process and such to make sure that this can be an official discussion/poll.

Ok here is some screen shots from turn 10.

The scout is 0.3 out of 1 and has 1 movement point as well has a promotion available. I guess where the scout is is where the GH was

Any idea on seizing the power? Anarchistic Idiots must rule or we are all doomed!

You can use me to flame and troll over the political opponents. First, I like it. Second, I probably would not be banned for long since I must post in the PBEM forum, SGOTM forum, and GOTM forum. The way the turnchat works in the Civ 3 game at least is the chatlog forms the detailed every move recorded log, saves are posted at the beginning before pressing the button for the first time, then every five turns then a final save. Screeies should be take of significant events eg: city investigations, war parties etc and a summary of key events posted. The various officials should all post in their government threads all the key information relating to their area. Also if a discussion thread is started it should also present the key facts from the game needed to make the decision. It's quite all right to post excerpts from the chat log and any screenies we wish in this thread. In the chat, the posted instructions should be followed, chat attendees can only provide advice to the turnplayer. At least that's how the Civ 3 game worked. No autolog there though, didn't we decide to use it here? I'm pretty sure there were votes on it.....

@akots you need to join the demogame group in your control panel. One of the mods will then give you access but it may take 24 hours or so.

Oh yes, and we already did the impeach (or CC as it was then called) Chieftess thing....

I like the SG idea thing.

I' d like to see if we could have a complete sub-forum for us, I mean, this thread is exploding polynomially (it can't be exponential, at some point we will exhaust our source of idiots (I'd like to see a "this source of idiots has been exhausted" "new source of idiots found" grafic) and it might re-appear in another team, or in OT, or Perfection might just eat the newbs and add them to his post count) and (remember I was talking about polynomials) we will take roots in several more places: the bigger the polynomial, the more the number of roots. Of course we only need one real root, but assuming it's not an entirely complex one (can't really be that complex now can it?) there'll be other threads created (or jacked, or mis-used, or trolled, or whatever other forum jargon there is for stealing the frigging fort) by the partee, and (still notwithstanding the remote possibility of a single-real-rooted polynomial) (despite the déjà-vu feeling it might instill inthe un-initiated mind) could become a (self-opinionastically qualified good) thing we'd look (assuming we're not blind, or visually impaired, and that we read this by our own means rather than have someone lecture it to us) (wow, lectures on this thread, gotta be chuck-awesome) at in the near future (disregarding the event of the apocalypse being closer at hand than the aforementionned). (Just imagine, Whomp, what if I just went french in here, to top it off ... once I'll unleash on your CDZ space by a midsummer's drunk eve and you'll regret having suggested it  )

Summary of current events:

We have met Ghengis Khan to our south. We've popped a scout out of a GH. The capital is about to grow next turn. We are currently producing a warrior.

It has been asserted by me that if you start a warrior and then switch to a worker (no growth during production), you'll get both units out quicker than if you had finished the warrior before starting the worker. Some people are scared to death that the AI will declare upon arrival. The only time that I've seen anyone (AI or human) die in the first 20 turns is a duel sized 4 player map that WHomp & I started using Pitboss. He didn't have time to get his warrior out before Roosevelt burnt his capital to the ground (and no Whomp I won't let you live that down  )

CT was the designated turnplayer (DP) for the session, so she was trying to interperet the instructions left by the officials in the turnchat instruction thread and use other polls and discussions to fill in the gaps to determine what should be done if there were no or unclear instructions.

I'm not too sure if there are any differences for this Civ 4 DG, but the role of the attendees is as witnesses and advisors, they can be very helpful to find info in the forum to help the DP interperet instructions but they can not order the DP what to do. Blkbird did not violate any instructions as such and was not in a position to actually do so. He was however very vocal in putting forward his position (which you may or may not agree with) making it clear that his position was the one he would take. This attitude can make it very difficult to DP where you often have to follow instructions that go against the way you would play the game and do things that are sometimes even counterproductive. As DP you are just following (or trying to follow) the posted instructions, incorporating those decisions into your playing of the game, whilst logging as much as you can into the chat. I actually find it more difficult than a succession game session.

We shall soon see whether he follows instructions or not, assuming we get enough of a log to tell that is.

The decision was that we can allow the use of autolog, but we can't require it just yet. If the Idiots feel strongly that it should be required, there's always the option of starting an initiative to that effect. It would be better to use a CoL amendment.

I guess I should officially check in... Grumpy Old Wildcat Idiot checking in. :D

On Blkbird's session: I don't like it either but in a first term with lots of new players it's hard to predict what we'll get. I give him the benefit of the doubt that the reason it's non-interactive is the pain of task switching. So early in the game it will be immediately obvious if instructions aren't followed. We can tell from the ending save of the session where the hammers and food went.

On people not posting information: Anyone up to asking for a JR on that? Also just make sure you pay attention to who does their office well and who doesn't. Nominations will be posted in about 1.5 days. ;) Bad manners will definitely come into consideration. :D

On the deplorable condition of the game, if he who should never again be named hadn't shown the appearance of a rising star I wouldn't have supported him, and I would have probably run for President. The tri system leaves us with an acting President who doesn't seem to be 100% into that role. It's kinda indirectly my fault :wallbash::vomit:
and I can't really do much about it from the CJ position except guide my fellow justices towards the direction that expedites the game.

Did I mention nominations are soon? I'll volunteer to be President Idiot, and would support Tubby for a governor. Anyone want to go for Minister of the Interior so the governor appointments can be influenced? And everyone who has time to be DP needs to be nominated into the pool, and use preferential voting if anyone shows up nominated that we don't trust.

[civ4] Nominations already? I'd better sort out what I need to do for the [c3c] demogame.

As far as this one goes, I can see floodplains in the fog so have to be very careful if I load the save not to scroll around, that is IF I can load the save as it's very temperamental and don't mention slow..... Not surprisingly I still play more Civ3. I'll have to play a bit more and see if I can get [civ4] running with mIRC. Strangely though I can have Outlook running and be doing a full virus scan without any problem and Alt-tabbing isn't quick but isn't all that slow either.

I had a look in the laws to see what the DPs were required to log and can't find any requirement at all! (relevant post (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3579772&postcount=4)). After all the efforts in previous demogames to get people to post information for people who can't open the save we seem to have gone backwards here.

edit: Thanks DS (and welcome) on the autolog answer, with the trouble I've gone through trying to get [civ4] running, coupled with lack of time I haven't taken much notice of this forum until recently.

In order not to loose focus I think it's time fooooooooor... A Beer Joke

A drunk is driving through the city and his car is weaving all over the road. Eventually a cop pulls him over.
"Did you know," says the cop, "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?"
"Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk. "For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf."

Wow, the ranks of idiots have really become quite idiotic quickly approaching complete idiocity. Sorry, you must have been tired of all these redundant repetitions but I can't help myself being overwhelmed and bursting with idiocity.

I'm sure there would be a few people who can either run Civ4 in a window and use mirc or who can Alt-Tab and be just fine. That would be a truly interactive and greatly exciting experience and might greatly improve attendance during the turnchats especially coupled with simultaneous posting of screenshots in the official thread to follow the progress of the game! Well, it is 21st century after all, why not then.

IMHO, this might be the mandatory requirement for the position on DP. Whereas President can be more political figure or so it seems according to the current law with certain decision making powers. Another IMHO, but it is not that important whether President actually has Civ4 running.

... As far as this one goes, I can see floodplains in the fog ...

I can also see forest/jungle sometime at the edge after patching to 1.52 but not in the protected saves.

Just some random thoughts from the founder:

Dave for president. He's got the oofmp and post count and demo experience to run it

Tubs for DP. He can count to ten and do charts and thingys. and he can multitask (believe it or not, he can walk and talk at the same time ;) saw it live

I'd argue against voting out those WHOSE NAMES CAN'T BE MENTIONED What would we do for fun? :crazyeye:

I think Furiey was talking about seeing floodplain on the other end of the earth, in totally unexplored territory. The T&L doesn't always work perfectly on some computers, and the fog effect is probablly just turning down the lighting -- probably meaning the lighting is wrong on FP tiles so it doesn't get turned down on those systems.

Well, it is in my style and oppinion to build cottages on flood plains since they already produce so much food the ridiculous commerce from towns that cottages turn into make it worth it in the long run. Grasslands I build cottages on, (All of this is subject to change in specific conditions) Plains I build farms on (For growth purposes) hills get mined and forests are allowed to remain if they are the grassland kind which provide 2 food and 1 hammer. Forests on plains I also usually leave for when a more concentrated hammer requirement is needed in a city build. Connecting cities with roads is always a priority. I would be willing to support ANYONES nomination for the minister of interior who favors a strong usage of cottages. If anyone would replace my self-nomination with those ideas, I will surrender my candidacy in favor of that citizen.

In one way, I get to make sure the land is worked properly, in the other situation, I get more life! lol. Any takers? I'll lead your campaign!

Side note, fe3333au, your avatar is scary, so is whomps. And why change avatars? Asoka is one of my favorite historical figures and this is probobly the best modern representation of his likeness. If anyone can find the original Ir-Won Song of Won Buddhism, I will accept it as an avatar, but only the one drawn in black and if it matches the forum skin color for plainess. You will find that I am colorful in my plainess, that is where my color lies. For what is color without plain, and plain, without color.

Time for a vote. It's a tough call on the one hand this game has been a mess from the beginning it seems and on the other DZ shouldn't have hit the keys he did. The fact that the cheat option was on in the first place seems really stupid to me but whatever I'm just another idiot. I would suggest whatever you feel is right.

I voted restart before consulting ... this game started wrong (one person's ego of destruction ... even seeing his name on stickied threads as the starter is offensive to me  ) and even with a wordy manifesto, do we even have an official president yet ?!!

So restart and wipe the board ... use this experience as a learning curve ...

I must decline the offer ... I can't get cIV on my system yet ... so am here to have fun ... and hopefully if the reporting element gets sorted out ... will learn about the game ...

Furiey
Jan 23, 2006, 01:56 AM
The cheat option was was left on as otherwise we couldn't use the autolog. I though autolog was going to be mandated, but now we don't appear to be using it! DS is producing something based on the hall of fame mod that will log with the chaet option off, but it will only work with NTFS file systems, anyone still on FAT32 will not even be able to load the game. I don't know yet whether it can be modded into the game or whether we would have to restart to use it though.

Nomination for DP. I would normally do this as I enjoy DPing, but I have problems with Civ 4 and had to go through a lot of hassle to get round the game insisting I did not have the DVD in the drive even when I did. I have an old GEForce 2 MX400 graphics card which suffers from the problem of being able to see Floodplains in the fog, so I have to be careful not to scroll into the fog which is easy enough to do just looking quickly at a city, but more difficult when playing. I try not to do it in my own games but still manage to. I also have difficulty running other applications while running Civ, although I can run Outlook and do a full virus scan (somthing that causes almost everything else to grind to a halt), I don't appear to be able to run mIRC or anything to create a logfile. Alt-tabbing isn't too bad though if I could run anything else. I would therefore be reduced to an off-line session which I do not think are a good thing. So I must decline.

DPs can hold another position.

Is everyone trying to join up to get a piece of our voting bloc?

Since the moderators have already said (in another parties thread) that parties can't restrict membership I guess we have to accept everyone. That being said. I personally won't vote for people of another "political party". Nomad Bryce may be the only exception to that.

After all who in the real world is a member of multiple parties? There are none and those who have attempted it are shunned by both parties

Daghdha
Jan 23, 2006, 10:40 AM
We have to think this over. Of course we cannot exclude anyone and that's fine, but there is an obvious risk with including (and supporting) anyone that comes along and join. It's obvious that we are soon the biggest (and most powerful?) party in the demogame, and it would be easy for citizens that aspire for an office to just come in and say "hey I'm a member so vote for me". It is also impossible the immediately see the difference between them and those who are made of the true idiotic stuff (so don't take this personal Gloriana). What we could do is to treat members of other parties as lurkers as long as they have multiple party-membership. That would mean they are welcome to read and post (which we cannot deny anyone), but will not be responded to or voted for. If a new member of the party wants to take advantage of our votes he/she must (1) resign from other parties and (2) ,like the rest of us, explaing why a vote on him/her would be a good choise.
Unless we do something like this I see, like Tubs, the possibilty of our party to be hi-jacked by office chasers.

Nomad I really like the idea of cottages on flood plains as well.

However, I find chopping forests are extremely powerful early game tactic similar to how a 4 turn settler factory would be power in Civ3. What are your thoughts on this? Maybe some others can chime in on this. I know Akots is playing at a very high level and can give his view.

The problem with chopping too many forests is that if you leave some behind they'll spread to other tiles.

I don't mind the chop here and there, but I'd rather to save them until we need speed (ie: racing to a wonder or a surprise attack that we are not prepared for)

I agree that chopping for wonders is a good plan as well but early settlers can increase the number of forest tiles inside the country's radius.

We do need to chop forests that are on river tiles. That denial of commerce from the river is too important to lose to another sheild or whatever (Depending on what's under the forest).

Regarding chop: Of course, why not, lets chop some forest here and there. It all depends on the map and health which we need. I'd say that start near the flood plains (somewhat unhealthy) requires at least 2 and may be 3 or 4 forests left intact in the initial city radius to balance the health issues. But it is a good idea to chop forests outside of these 9 tiles imho. The earlier we chop, the more cities we can build. THe more cities we can build, the more units we can build. The more units we can build, the faster we can go and kill somebody out there. The more blood is spilled, the greater is the fun. The greater is the fun, the more beer we can have. The more beer we can have, the more drunk we get. The more drunk we get, the more horrible would be the hangover. So, chopping trees would ultimately lead to a horrible-horrible hangover.

Am I wrong somewhere here? :crazyeye:

Chopping with a plan for sure. The forest's create health (0.4 per tile) but chopping areas where the citizens can't work makes sense and senses are something we have seven of and seven is a very lucky number when throwing dice and dice is something you do when you chop and you chop so you can win the game and drink beer.

What a nicely rounded sentence you got there, Whopmer. :D

I generally dislike chopping, mostly because it'll produce health problems later on. We should chope one or maybe two, but anything more means smaller cities in the late game.

Forests bring 0.5 health after the patch iirc?

We can safey chop the forests which are outside of the effective limit for the health bonus but which still bring "full load" of lumber shields. There are a number of these forests which can be chopped usually, not just one or two.
