Download file (http://www.inethighway.com/sm/recon/reconquista.zip)

And then unzip it into to the civ4 mod directory:

This looks very promising!

I just had a sneak peek into, but that just seems like the small, highly specialised scenarios I am looking for. And it even comes with custom tailored civics and tech tree.

I don't have much time, but I will try to play it out a bit in the weekend and post some more.

Also the Reconquista is a very interesting epoch to me...

thanks. i'll appreciate all feedback, because this scenario still needs some tweaking, a rewrite of the python code (condense the code and make generic functions) and some other little additions.

almohad (arabia), aragon (england), castille (germany), france (france), leon (spain), navarre (greece), portugal (russia)

as it is now, you can play any civ, although only aragon, castille, leon and portugal are designed to be played

Love the mod but cannot handle the difficulty level. How can I lower it? Seems to be locked.

Played with France, but couldn't get above 2nd place by score. The Almohads are just too tough. I kill bunch of their troops with each one of mine, but they still keep coming in big hordes... x_x

Hmm, I saw this on Apolyton first, so posted long feedback there. It's locked at Noble difficulty, and that's way too easy for Leon. I'd conquered everything Iberian west of Granada by 1183, as well as researching several Future Techs, having 2k gold in the bank, and all the Christian rulers pleased or friendly with me.

Basic approach: Take your two horsemen and move them as a stack through the Moorish lands, razing towns down to hamlets and then moving on before any reaction force gathers. This earns you 30 gpt, when you only have a 15 gpt deficit at 100% research.
Grab the Great Merchant tech. Negotiate a couple of Open Borders and turn your merchant into 900 more gold. Now, even when your horsemen run out of places to sack (or get ganked - mine never did) you've got enough money for a century or so.

Most of the Christians made peace with the Moors by around 1100; I held off another 20 years until I'd conquered four towns around Seville (gave Toledo to the Castilians, kept the rest for myself). I'd been delaying gunpowder as long as I could, but once I had it I built up a force of 15 muskets and 5 catapults, cleaned up Seville and southern Portugal, and then Granada fell around 1183. I had 40+ musketeers, while nobody else had fielded one (even though all the major powers had the technology, perhaps because I'd done a lot of selling on the cheap to make them friendly).

What I really would ike to do is lower the difficulty level by restoring the default control on difficulty.

I played for some 60 turns today, and as promised, here's my first impression.

First off, I enjoyed playing very much. You have taken care of details and everything is well thought of. The increased movement of units (even more so on roads) just feels fine for the scale of time and map. The scripted events were nice, yet the cities in questions were to far off that I would have sent units there. Is there any bonus in for the one helping out?

I as well took Leon, mostly because I wanted to have Santiago de Compostela. I agree with Kidinnu that it seems a bit easy on noble level - keeping your cities happy and healthy is hardly a challenge. I would appreciate if the difficulty could be set freely.

I ran into some more difficulties than Kidinnu, though. I didn't want to go conquer cities before having siege weapons and so only did some cottage raids. Alfonso made peace with the Moors first. At a time they wouldn't even talk to me. His next move was to declare war on me. In the war with him, I neglected my defenses to the south and lost my southernmost town to the Moors. I relieved Alfonso of two cities though, and plan to "unite" Leon and Kastilia. Also I hope to have a great prophet soon, so that I can build my Cathedral in Santiago.

A few thoughts and suggestions:

a detail - renaissance starting on education seems a bit too early for me

If I recall history correctly, the occupation of some first cities on the mediterranean coast gave the spanish kingdoms some trade boost. Maybe this could be represented in the game with the possibility to trade with Venice for instance if you control any port on the southern half of the iberian half isle.

Maybe permanent alliances should be made possible, too? Defensive pacts don't seem to be too useful since war against the Moors is one of the main goals. I think historically Kastilia-Leon and Aragon entered such a permanent alliance later, forming early Spain.

Also I think that the question how to treat other faiths was one of the main political issues in these times. Both christians and moslems had phases of religious tolerance and zeal. Maybe this could be reflected by civics, one giving boons on having several religions in your cities, and others penalties (for which something has an inquisitor would be needed, to get rid off unwanted religions).

Finally, maybe 'liberating' some prestigious towns like Toledo, Granada or Cordoba as first christian nation should give some extra victory points?

All in all, the scenerio made a fabulous impression on me, and I will write some more when I am further into the game.

Oh... and a final question: Any particular reason why the map is flipped by 90 degrees?

Seems very nice...I've just downloaded it and I'm going to play it right on...I had already played a similar scenario in C3C...if the authors are to update this scenario they could take a few ideas from here:

Well done, I've played this a few times and enjoyed it a lot.
Dauphin you do recieve extra gold and units if you take part in the "missions" also building the "heroic epic" first yields a number of bonuses

How can I modify the scenario so that I can choose the difficulty level?

This scenario is really good - simple, fun and clean. Good work!

I played it twice and had a lot of fun, even after I were defeated.
But, there is of course still something you can do to make it even greater.

Perhaps it would be nice, if it is possible (i don't know), to change the AI that the spanish and portogese countries do not accept the occupation and live in peace with the ottomans. At a point in game they are just satisfied not to fight against them, so the ottoman power is concentrating on my because i am always ;) the last that still tries to free the land ;)

Fantastic work.
It is a honor to me to see a scenario like this as i am spanish.
I would make some changes, though, to make it fitting better with history, but the overall is great.
Magnifico!

I have translate your scenario for French users. Here is the file including french translation :

http://el.zozo.free.fr/modciv/reconquista_fr.zip

And after, i played with Frenchies ^_^ and their poor 2 cities, and i finally won. So, the game is certainly too easy. And it can be more and more easy if the player accelerate a lot of technologies with Great heroes. But it was a good scenario, enjoying, interesting, and you knew how to take advantage of interesting aspects of the diplomacy.

You know if the moors would have won. We would have had the Rennaisance 500 hundred years before the Italians. I know the Catholic religion won out. But why would you destroy a state that tolerated all religions, and extoled the virtues of culture and science. Islamic Spain was different than those who lived in the middle eastern culture during the Crusades, they weren't hell bent on destruction Christendom. But the past is past. I will get off my soap box. Just make the Scenario a little more balanced. Playable from both sides. Then you make it a really interesting scenario.

i love the concept of this mod and its seems brilliantly planned out. i was extremely upset when i loaded it and it said the xml files for all units were in the wrong "info class". i had downloaded it and put it in my mod folder. any ideas why this is?

looks great but when I load the mod all the main menu options are blank / invisible. I can then select the blank options all the way to screen that lets you pick wbquicksave or something else whereon I get a blank error message that wont let me continue after that.

I can choose wbquicksave to enter the game but there is no text anywhere. all text is blank.
