View Full Version : Im frikin stupid!!! Talon500 Jan 11, 2006, 04:49 PM I still cant figure out how to use the skins in the game. I have like 12 new skins all .dds files hrlp me please. CrazyAce Jan 11, 2006, 05:24 PM Talon your starting to piss me off... Post your questions in the main discussion forum. I already answered you question in a thread you posted about the same question and as I said in that post you can find the answer here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=148111 Talon500 Jan 11, 2006, 05:51 PM I did it didnt work CrazyAce Jan 11, 2006, 06:55 PM Well I'll help you understand this better when a moderator can place this thread in the discussion forum, where it belongs. Talon500 Jan 13, 2006, 03:39 PM ok now its in here Exavier Jan 13, 2006, 03:41 PM Ok are you trying to reskin existing units or reskin a unit and call it something else? cause each one is a different proccess. Talon500 Jan 13, 2006, 03:51 PM trying to reskin existing units Exavier Jan 13, 2006, 03:53 PM well the skin has to have the same name as the existing unit's skin and be placed in the proper directory where that units art is (Might need to run PakBuild to unpack the assets#.fpk files though) Talon500 Jan 13, 2006, 03:54 PM I cant find the original units though they dont show up. Exavier Jan 13, 2006, 04:15 PM If you don't have any folders in your /assets/art/units folder then you need to use PakBuild (utilities forum) to unpack the Assets0.fpk (and the other 3) that are in the /assets/ folder. that will build all the units into the proper places for you.... NOTE: editing core game files can have advers effects... might be better to create it in a mod format unless your not going to play MP :) Talon500 Jan 13, 2006, 04:20 PM I got the pakbuild but I tried that and I couldnt figure out the ynpacking thing. Exavier Jan 13, 2006, 04:27 PM i am not actually at home atm so i couldn't walk you through it but on one of them menus is an "Unpack" option that lets you select a file and unpack it somewhere (note you don't open the packed file to do this) I can give you better directions when i get home in about 2hrs. Talon500 Jan 13, 2006, 04:28 PM I dunno know if Ill b on but post them anyways ok. KGrevstad Jan 13, 2006, 04:47 PM Run PakBuild and one of the menu options is PAK. Select that and it will give you a pull-down menu and one of those menu options is Unpack. Select that and it will then ask you for .FPK files to unpack. Select an fpk file to unpack and it will ask you where you want it unpacked. --Kristine Talon500 Jan 13, 2006, 05:00 PM Where should I put it? KGrevstad Jan 13, 2006, 05:43 PM Where should I put it? Presumably you could put them right there in the Assets directory, although I would be reluctant modifying a pristine install. I would consider putting them in my CustomAssets directory instead, but if I was going to work on them, I would put them somewhere outside of the scope of the game, and just copy in those files I had changed. What you do is up to you. --Kristine bhiita Jan 14, 2006, 01:36 AM No need to unpack anything to use a new skin. We'll pretend you're retexturing the knight. All you need is the texture... go to you main civ4 directory and follow the shortcut to _Civ4CustomAssets next you need to make a directory (new folders) when in the CustomAssets folder, make a new folder called art... then inside the art folder create a folder named knight put you new texture in that folder. that's it. :) if you're making a new unit with a new name, it's a whole other ball park... but reskinning just from downloading new skins.. this is all you need to do. |
