Hi all.

I am new to the forums, and to Civ. Civ IV is my first civ game, and I am finding it a lot of fun, but with a steep learning curve. I have learned a lot just from reading the various forum posts.

A question that I could not seem to find an answer to though. The manual says that a city will get access to an improved resource if within the fat cross, even without a road linking the resource tile to the city. However, from what I can tell, I don't get the resource in my city unless I connect it to the city by a road, even if the resource is within the fat cross.

You can get the yield bonus (food, commerce, hammers) without the road, but not the resource itself.

Yup, Morred's got it. I thought the manual was pretty misleading in that part, too. Actually deceptive as opposed to just useless like it usually is. :) Also, note that resources can be connected by rivers - so if both your city and the resource are adjacent to a river, you don't need a road for the connection.

Thanks. Now it makes sense. The manual is certainly misleading on this point.

Besides you have to build improvement to get certain types of resources. Having the road is not always enough.
