View Full Version : Creation Instruction Thread (see inside for time)
DaveShack Jan 14, 2006, 09:55 AM The Creation chat is tentatively scheduled for Sunday Jan 15, 3PM MST. This equates to 5PM EST, 2200 GMT.
This will be an on-line event. The tentatively scheduled DP is DaveShack, but see below for DP selection instructions in case the scheduled DP isn't there. If Acting President Greekguy is available, we can definitely use a Master of Ceremonies for this event.
The chat will be on irc.irc-chat.net on channel #turnchat. It can be accessed using the chat link at the bottom of every forum page, or using any IRC client such as Trillian or mIRC.
Instructions:
Create the game according to agreed starting conditions. Starting conditions will be collected in another post in this thread. The DP must have patch level 1.52.
Have fun! :D
[party]:band::beer::banana::woohoo:
Additional information:
If the scheduled DP is not available at the scheduled time (that's me and I don't know yet if I have to be driving the family all over town then), wait 10 minutes and then select the first available DP from this list:
DaveShack
Chieftess
Blkbird
Ravensfire
Octavian X
Stilgar08
Donovan Zoi
Aythanaeus
Nomad Bryce Oh, one more thing... Did I remember to say have fun? [party]:bounce::dance:
DaveShack Jan 14, 2006, 10:22 AM In no particular order, the game options are:
Menu: Advanced Play Now; Custom Game (this might have been updated in a patch)
Civ : Random
Number of opponents: standard for map size
No-cheat : OFF
Landmass: Continents
Map Size - Large
Game Speed - Epic
Barbarians - Normal
Sea Level - Random
Climate - Temperate
Difficulty - Prince (unless result of this poll (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=153643) changes in a very big way)
Never polled: Starting Age was never polled, but the overwhelming comments were to play "as normal a game as possible" and it would be quite abnormal to start a demogame anywhere but the beginning.
Please change the leader name temporarily to "C4DG1 <leadername>" using alt-D (keep the game's leadername, don't insert the text "<leadername" :crazyeye:. We'll probably update that again after we know who we are, but this will help automatically label the save.
Bengeance Jan 14, 2006, 10:37 AM This seems like the appropriate place for this. I want to thank DaveShack and everyone else who has put in so much time making this DG come alive. It has been a lot of fun so far and we aren't even playing yet.

uubry Jan 14, 2006, 06:17 PM I would just like a moment of silence for this momentous occasion......
... Thank you!

The last thing I want to do is add more legal controversy, but it seems that our CoL specifies (though poorly worded) a different hierarchy should the scheduled DP fall absent.
That being said, our order would be the following should DaveShack run late:
greekguy
Donovan Zoi
Octavian X
Aythanaeus
Nomad Bryce
Blkbird
Chieftess
Ravensfire
Stilgar08
Relevant law:
V. If the Designated Player is unavailable to play at the designated time, the highest ranking member of the Triumvirate, or if no Triumvirate members are present, or those present decline to play the highest ranking Cabinet member, or if no Cabinet members are present, or those present decline to play a member of the Designated Player pool at the chat can choose to play the session in place of the Designated Player who is absent or the session can be canceled.
DaveShack Jan 15, 2006, 01:58 AM If I were interested in contending the point, I'd point out that it's not a play session since no turns will be played. :mischief:
However, wearing my "citizen" hat it doesn't matter to me who does it, as long as it doesn't take as long as a cage match turn. :p
FYI greekguy doesn't have Civ4, so I just skipped on past him.

Not to further contend the point, but if it not considered a play session, then why are the players listed first? Hmmmm? :groucho:
It doesn't matter to me either, as my goal was not to bump myself up in the turn order. I doubt if I will even be available to play this afternoon. I just want to make sure we are following the rules.
DZ returns to his uncomfortable hiding spot behind the Cage Match straw man.
RoboPig Jan 15, 2006, 10:28 AM i have a question: does this mean that elections will be held on the 15th of the month rather than the beggining?

No, this term will still end on the 31st.
Chieftess Jan 15, 2006, 12:16 PM One note on the naming convention:
Use C4DG[#]_[BC/AD<year>]_Description.
For example, C4DG1_BC4000_Start.
That way, we keep the files straight, and we don't conflict (if possible) with the Civ3 demogame. One more thing, do try to use the file upload instead of Imageshack. Imageshack only keeps images for a short time.
Blkbird Jan 15, 2006, 02:24 PM One more thing, do try to use the file upload instead of Imageshack. Imageshack only keeps images for a short time.
Don't know where you heard this, but ImageShack's faq says here:
http://reg.imageshack.us/content.php?page=faq
How long will my uploaded images be available?
Your images will only be deleted if they do not adhere to our Terms of Service. Otherwise, your images will be available forever.
And our screenshots definitely don't violate their ToS (yes, I checked).
I do recommend using ImageShack because of its convinient thumbnail function.
Blkbird Jan 15, 2006, 02:26 PM No, this term will still end on the 31st.
I can't find any law to that effect.
GeorgeOP Jan 15, 2006, 02:38 PM Actually, what law stipulates when terms end at all? But without looking, I thought it said that the term end would be declared at the start of the election, and didn't we say it would end on the 31st?

Who said it where?
DaveShack Jan 15, 2006, 04:26 PM The game is created!

Strider Jan 15, 2006, 04:27 PM I think it's about time we stop using the term designated player... resembles designated driver to much. Makes it sound like were abunch of drunks :).

I thought that's why we made the term in the forum place? *ducks and runs*
Next turnchat will be Wednesday, to give time for discussion.
RoboPig Jan 15, 2006, 09:52 PM Who said it where?
why cant we just go with the 31st, huh, when would you like it to start? the 1st is the best since people remember that DG elections are then
