This is not a discussion thread.
Nomad Bryce Jan 20, 2006, 10:26 PM In the absence of Aythaneaus, if he remains absent, I would like to appoint Chieftess as acting Governor of Boaring Wallow. I trust that she is a top notch player and have faith that she can make good building decisions.
DaveShack Jan 21, 2006, 01:26 PM The first post of a TCIT needs to include a link to the starting save. It is also customary to include a link to the previous instruction thread. Please update the first post with this information.
Just in case you're not aware, when there are no instructions for a topic the DP has freedom to act but does need to follow binding polls, and should take lower level decision types (opinion polls, perponderance of comments in discussion threads) into account.

What do you mean by "should"? A DP isn't *required* to follow opinion polls and citizen inputs?
Blkbird Jan 21, 2006, 01:48 PM Continue researching Animal Husbandry; after it finishes, start researching Pottery.
If Pottery is presented to us by a Hut, research Writing (after finishing Animal Husbandry); if any other Technology is presented to us by a Hut, stay on course with Pottery.

Let's discuss that in the judicial thread on decision types. You can read it as required.

Civic switching:
Envoy head on a pole
Stop trading with Civ X:
Depends on who we are friends with, Civ X, or Civ Y demanding we stop the trading
Wars and Treaties: Don't declare war on anyone this TC. Don't sign any treaties because we don't have the knowldege of how to do so. ;)
End the chat after 10 turns.
greekguy Jan 21, 2006, 02:54 PM Slider: Put the slider to max for Scientific research. Let it go as high as the game allows. The people have spoken and we want to "Get Smart".
Budget: Don't spend any money at all for this turnchat.
End the chat after 10 turns.

I've made this comment to your instructions for the last session already: Your instructions are self-contradictory.
Chieftess Jan 21, 2006, 04:22 PM While I know it's an offline session, can you please translate 24:00 UTC? I have no clue what UTC is.....
Ginger_Ale Jan 21, 2006, 04:24 PM It's in the first post...7pm EST, for timezone-deficient people. ;)
Blkbird Jan 21, 2006, 04:35 PM While I know it's an offline session, can you please translate 24:00 UTC? I have no clue what UTC is.....
UTC is Universal Time Coordinate. It replaced Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) over 30 years ago, but is basically the same thing.
DaveShack Jan 21, 2006, 09:55 PM So did this get played as scheduled? We should play on business as usual unless the assembly tells us otherwise. :)
Chieftess Jan 21, 2006, 10:06 PM Yeah, no posts could mean that it goes to the next in Chain of Command. :) Where's the save?
Donovan Zoi Jan 21, 2006, 10:27 PM Yeah, no posts could mean that it goes to the next in Chain of Command. :) Where's the save?
Hey, that's me!
Oh wait.....I resigned. :hmm: ;)
Blkbird Jan 22, 2006, 12:58 AM Patience, people, I'm still working out the narrative log.
Chieftess Jan 22, 2006, 06:25 AM Can we atleast have the saves to start discussions? You can post the log later.

Chieftess Jan 22, 2006, 10:06 AM Your attachments don't work.
DaveShack Jan 22, 2006, 10:11 AM This shouldn't be a discussion thread, but here's some feedback.
I really like the narrative log, it's superior to many SG logs I've seen! :D The attachment links for individual saves don't work, and it was very unusual to see a link to an outside site for the all-inclusive zip file. After working through downloading the file I was very happy to see that it's not just the beginning, middle, and end save, but there is also a save for every turn!
Areas for improvement (I will also post this to the DP Pool government thread)
It's less important at present because there aren't a lot of preliminary instructions to do, but there is a strong tradition of doing those instructions and then posting a "turn 0" save from the end of that prep work, before the first full turn of the session starts.
Generally people prefer to see a link to the actual file and not a link to the thread / post where the file is found. This is especially important with screenshots. It's also generally better to put the full-size image instead of the thumbnail.
Putting the text of the high level summary in the instruction thread gives people a nice closure to the session.
Blkbird Jan 22, 2006, 10:19 AM Your attachments don't work.
It's very strange. One my home computer I can download, but on my university computer I get an error, too. It there some trick to attachment uploading?
Otherwise just try the all-inclusive pack.
Ginger_Ale Jan 22, 2006, 10:24 AM Just use the easy upload system (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3278741&postcount=2). It's much better...
BTW, try not to upload files on other sites, unless it is an image file at a place like ImageShack.

The inclusive pack doesn't work either. I just get an advertisement for file uploading.
EDIT: Oh, I see... I have to wait 15 seconds? Does it increase with each download? (i.e., more bandwidth)
Please use the file upload. It's much friendlier, AND, users don't have to click multiple links just to find it.
EDIT: errmm.... ok, I waited 15 seconds, entered the code, and now it wants me to wait again??

I did upload the saves as forum attachments. I don't know what is wrong. Are there different ways to upload files to the forum?
And I can't upload the all-inclusive pack here as it's about 3 MB in size and the forum limit is 500 KB.
Chieftess Jan 22, 2006, 10:48 AM This is why we use the file upload link at the bottom of the forum. Much simpler. :)
Blkbird Jan 22, 2006, 11:05 AM Yeah, I did not know that. It's irritating anyway, who would find something as well hidden as that? Anyone would intuitively use the attachment function. Why isn't the forum attachment function deactivated if it's not recommended and doesn't work? Or better yet, replace the forum attachment function with a link to the "easy upload".
Anyway, all download links are updated now.

Thanks DS for your comments, but...

No idea what "pre instructions" are, could you name some examples?

I disagree with you. I post download links at one location (here in this thread) and refer to it in other threads, so the links can be easily updated, like I had to do now. If links were posted redudantly, updating will give you a headache. "Using references instead of copies whenever possible" is a basic princinple of information processing.
As for screenshots, I personally *hate* to see full-size images in threads, they almost never fits in the window unless they're the only thing in the window (which they're not if they're in the middle of a thread) and makes the whole page utterly unreadable. They are often a big waste of bandwidth, too, because the reader doesn't want to see all the images every time he opens a thread.
Putting the text of the high level summary in the instruction thread gives people a nice closure to the session. [/LIST]
That's a good idea, I will do it.
