View Full Version : Map of China (84x54)
Head Serf Jan 22, 2006, 07:38 PM This is my map of China that I am working on for my Chinese Communist Revolution scenario. I decided to release it as a map so you guys can see it first-hand before the scenario comes out.
There are three civilizations, China, Japan, and India. Each starts at different points on the Chinese coast with 1 settler. The map is 84 by 54 or basically standard mapsize. However, there is much more land than there would be normally so it'll probably feel like a large or huge map.
If you have any problems please post them and I'll try to fix them as quickly as possible. Screenshots should be up soon.
Version 1.0
-Released map
-There are currently 3 civilizations
-There is one barbarian city in Tibet.
Head Serf Jan 23, 2006, 12:55 PM Okay, the file 1.0 is up and running! A screenshot should come soon.
Rabbit_Alex Jan 23, 2006, 01:35 PM Why not build on this and have the Indian subcontinent connected to China (seperated by the Himilayas but with mountain passes) and have Japan start on their islands? You could have the Mongolians start to the northwest of China on the Tibetan plateau. I think a map focusing on just that region would be cool.
Other than that, it looks pretty good.
Head Serf Jan 23, 2006, 01:42 PM I really want to just include the political country of China but the idea of adding in Mongolia is a good one. The problem with putting Japan on Taiwan is that their growth would be seriously slowed. I think I will move the countries around a little bit.
Head Serf Jan 25, 2006, 12:49 PM Does anyone else have any reccomendations for improvements? Is adding new civilizations something you people want? Speak up!
Koba the Dread Jan 25, 2006, 01:13 PM Dear Head Serf,
I cannot fathom including Indian and Japanese settlers on mainland China. IMHO, if I were to build a Chinese Communist Revolution scenario (awesome idea by the way) I would include a Communist Chinese civ, a Nationalist (Kuomintung) Chinese civ, and maybe the Mongolians and Koreans.
Including Japan in the scenario would add to the historical accuracy, but the scenario would be skewed without the inclusion of WWII. Therefore, it may be best to leave them out of the scenario.
The Soviets could be added as Great Wonders that produce units (planes and tanks). Since the Communists and the KMT both sought Soviet backing during the 20's, 30's and 40's.
But, under no circumstances should India and Japan be on mainland China with settlers, ready to build their nations in the midst of a Communist insurgency.
Head Serf Jan 25, 2006, 01:41 PM Koba, I think you might not understand. This is not my communist china revolution scenario. This is the basic map (terreain and bonuses only) along with some settlers so people can use the map for themselves or play a standard Civ4 game on it. I don't mean for this to be my scenario.
Koba the Dread Jan 25, 2006, 02:01 PM Ooopppsss. My bad - sorry.
dc82 Jan 25, 2006, 02:04 PM Hey! - The map's definitely looking great right now - it's nice to get some Asian maps into the picture. The general outline is pretty good; if you don't mind some suggestions - the western half of China seems a bit crammed too much to the northeast - Tibet should come a bit further south, and as a whole, there it a bit more land that should pertrude to the west.
Actually, maybe using this map for comparison may help. Otherwise, it's def. looking good and I look forward to using it.

Head Serf Jan 25, 2006, 02:11 PM Oh, I see what you're saying dc82. I'll put some more hills and such in the south and if I can I'll expand China a little westwardly.
dc82 Jan 25, 2006, 02:23 PM One thing you may or may not want to do - it's up to you, is whether or not you want to make the major rivers navigable by ship - since from ancient to modern times, ships have always used the Yangzhe and Huang Rivers, they would add an interesting mix. But, there can also be difficulties with that - one being the obvious obstacle to settler movement. Just a thought.
bklynbri Jan 25, 2006, 04:39 PM anyone planning on making a middle east map?
Head Serf Jan 25, 2006, 05:26 PM Nope, I'm not, but one could open up interesting scenario possibuilities.
bklynbri Jan 26, 2006, 04:30 PM downloaded china I will let you know what I think. Thanks

Everyone seems to have forgotten about Korea:mad:
Chuck Berry Jan 28, 2006, 12:04 PM You guys do know that there is a great map of all of East Asia included with the 1.52 patch? You can't play the scenario (they didn't finish it or something?) but if you open up the Battle of East Asia Worldbuilder Save from the Public Maps menu (it's in the Civ4 folder somewhere) and choose any civ it will launch - the civs start out normally (with 1 warrior and settler) but they are in random starting locations and they are NOT the civs that were supposed to be in the completed mod, but that can be fixed through notepad editing. If you open the Worldbuilder Save with notepad you'll see the Civs were supposed to be Laos, Vietnam, China, etc.
Anyway, the map is great and already has farms, roads, oil platforms, etc., but no cities. I'm not sure why it wasn't completed, it looks like it could be a fun scenario...
Head Serf Jan 28, 2006, 12:18 PM My map and the Battle for East Asia map which have indeed looked at are very different. The BEA map has only eastern China and also includes stuff such as Japan which I don't want in my map.
Also my map is meant to only include China, as in political China. That's why it doesn't have Korea, since Korea is a different sovergien nation. Sort of.

yeah BUT then why have you put Japan [The ULTIMATE civ :D] and India in?
(and just in case you got it mixed up i meant the Korean civ)
Thehistoryman Feb 08, 2006, 07:13 PM when will your communist revolution scenario be done? i dont usually download maps to play like this but i am very interested in the scenario idea.
Head Serf Feb 10, 2006, 12:51 PM Well, I have been continuosly working on the scenario but progress is slow. I'm learning XML as I go along and I also need to wait for more units to become available, so I can't really give any kinda guess for the release date.
Thehistoryman Feb 13, 2006, 10:18 PM thats cool. i was just wondering, looking foward to it.

A pretty good map!
What about adding impassable land (peaks or ice) where the rest of the Asian continet is, so that there can be no ground units and no ships.
beefcurry Mar 05, 2006, 07:39 AM woW i would definately want to play the senario!!! good luck with the senario :D. Now for the Revolution, are you going to set it before the japan invasion was defeated or after?
Head Serf Mar 05, 2006, 12:25 PM It will take place immeadiately following World War II, so after the Japanese were out of Manchuria.
Sleeping_Dragon Mar 22, 2006, 07:45 PM Can you make a learger one? I'm making a scenario with this and the cities seem scrunched. Okay, sould have asked. Sorry. Can I use this? I already gave you credit.
Head Serf Mar 23, 2006, 04:46 PM Sure, feel free to use this. By the way, what kind of scenario are you making with it?
jinishans May 09, 2006, 12:00 PM I never used a custom map. Where to place this map and how to start it...?

Put the map in your worldbuilder saves folder. Then click "play now" then "Play scenario".
