View Full Version : Edit XML file or Create alternate file

As loathe as I am to start a new thread, I've not really noticed this one here... though I may need to look a bit further.

My question is thus...

I am not looking to add units or create new civs... what I want to do it to edit the XML info files to tweak the names of people and places. I have already done some of this successfully. My concern is that these files may be replaced in future patches. I don't want to have to re-edit them.

Would it be better to make a copy of the file, edit the copy and then stash it into one of the Mod folders? Which mod folder would work best for that, and would I need to rename the file once it is in that folder?

If this has been answered elsewhere, please aim me to it.

Thanks.

I just use my custom assests directory for my version of the game and then the mod folder within for any additional solo mods like Fall from Heaven:goodjob:

Would those files be replacing the original, or being used in addition to the original? Or does that depend on what is in the XML code?

If there is a file in the customassets directory structure it is used instead of the corresponding file in the assets directory structure.
