well, I guess my trip would have been more in the Tehacapi Mountains, which are the south east corner of the chain, in Kern County. County Lines are on the map BTW . you see that south east corner of the range, where it kinda narrows, then starts to nake a U turn back up north? well, that county is Kern County, where I live. LA County is the one just south of that. The retret was towards the norther part of Kern's mountains.

Ok - IOM is definitly a good place to live not only because of what you say about reps (its true) but also because of the following reasons (I know I've left out positives):

1. Almost no taxes!!! The IOM is a well-known Tax Haven. The taxes you pay are minimal and some don't even exist (like death tax plus many others). Because of this there is a lot of wealth in circulation. Its a land of opportunity for entrepreneurs and such.

2. Very safe place to live, with no extreme weather conditions ever. At the same time, it still feels like an integrated part of the world, mainly because so many large (and small) businesses and firms set up here from all over the world as a result of low taxing.

3. Good Education (currently home to the 33rd best rated high school in britain - I used to go there and prbably will later when I turn 17) and health services (there is a brand new hospital right near my house - its huge for such a small island). We also boast a huge, high tech sports centre called the NSC (it hosted the famed Island Games a few years back).

4. Good selection of social places like pubs (if you're into that sort of thing) and also if your religious there are lots of churches and other such places of worship. Also, more and more shops are opening up all the time so you wont go downtown Douglas and see 5 other people wearing the same Quiksilver top anymore - lol (thats what most of the guys my age complain of but I personally arent plagued by people wearing stuff similar to me).

5. Its about 13 miles wide and 30-40 miles long. Its a got pretty scenery too. The weather is mostly like what I imagine Canada would be like. It has ideal summers (sunny, warm and slightly breezy) but be prepared to cope with a lot of rain in the Winter/Fall.

The one and only con I can think of is that the price of Housing is sooo expensive and its still going up, due to the international popularity (tax haven situation). To give you an idea of how much I'll say this: an average two storey semi detached house will cost you upwards of 300,000 pounds sterling (thats roughly $450 - $500,000 USD). My family was lucky in that we came here when this place wasn't quite so hot and we got a steal on a massive bungalow that now is worth upwards of £1 million.

Verdict: Brilliant place to live (and die, I will hesitantly add, due to the fact that the government don't help themselves to any portion of your inheritance). If you want any demographical info see this link or ask me.

I did read it (afterwards :D) but didn't edit my question because I wanted more details? How exactally did you do that in a go cart? All the go-carts I've been in barely go 10 MPH.

I hit the barrier at such an angle and speed that I manage to push the front wheel under the barrier (some plastic/plexiglass/thingy board over old tyres), and scraped myself alongside it.
