View Full Version : stNNES IX: For Whom The Bell Tolls
Lord_Iggy Feb 03, 2006, 07:03 PM Is that a bluff? Or is that a real alliance?
I'm considering abandoning Cyprus, whether or not that that's not just a list of nations you've made to scare me. Do you want me to bring my settlers with me?
Stormbringer Feb 03, 2006, 07:10 PM I don't care what you do with the settlers, and no, that is not a bluff, that is an alliance that I managed to create
Lord_Iggy Feb 03, 2006, 07:14 PM Well, I applaud you for pulling together that alliance so early in the game. Dazaria will pull its settlers and military out of the island of Cyprus, and leave it to either Phonecia or Knossos, or whoever you agreed would keep the island.
OOC: What the hell are the HITTITES doing in your alliance?
Cuivienen Feb 03, 2006, 09:26 PM It would be nice to have NPC stats up before sending orders. I can do so without NPC stats, but it would still be nice.
I'll have a nice long story about the Wars of Creation and orders submitted tomorrow.
erez87 Feb 04, 2006, 12:41 AM to Carthage: SECRET
Agreed on the strategy. We might add a thing or two of our own... good luck friends..
Lord_Iggy Feb 04, 2006, 04:16 PM Tarsus. It's earliest days our now shrouded in myth. Most believe that the first settlement was founded a millennium ago, by the legendary King Saddarax Dazarius. From this hill fort, he battled of incessant attacks from the barbarians to the north, year after year for decades. But even while it appeared that all of his energies were put into war, he still put much effort into the arts and sciences. And it all payed itself off.
When Saddarax passed away of old age, he did so knowing that his city was safe. The first wall of Tarsus was complete, and his elite soldiers, the Dazarian Guards, guarded it every second of every day.
Today, Tarsus is a massive citadel and a testament to the strength of the Dazarian people, and a warning to all those who would challenge it.
@Stormbringer- So, what the heck are the Hittites doing in your alliance? Dazaria would wish to join, but we will not be associated with these bloodthirsty fiends.
Stormbringer Feb 04, 2006, 05:36 PM OOC: Hittities were willing to attack you and in that case I would get the island, thats why they are in the alliance. I will consider extending an invitation to you, I will need to talk to some people.
Lord_Iggy Feb 04, 2006, 05:41 PM I will pull out of Cyprus. You will get all of the land Dazaria ever possessed there. In exchange, the Hittites will be dropped out of the alliance, as their purpose in threatening me is gone. The people of Dazaria will avenge their ancestors lost to the murderous Hatti.
Global Nexus Feb 05, 2006, 06:24 PM OOC: Hm...not the best story I've ever done, but there's not much for me to work with yet.
Story:
Hamilcar of the Barca Clan was quite happy that day. He’d just received word from Aney-Tigot that their deal and plans were accepted by the Aneyan leadership. Carthage had for a while considered the rival nation a threat, but Hamilcar on the other hand saw in them a valuable ally. For Ba’al’s sake, an empire cannot control the entire Mediterranean itself as the other members of “council” seemed to believe. Carthage could not – would not – be able to maintain control over everything even if it managed to conquer it all. Everything would collapse!
He reminded himself that Carthage wasn’t a proper empire. How he loathed that fact – the rich, corrupt families had for so long reigned over the city and its lands. They had grown fat off their wealth and knew so little about the world. This however did work to his advantage. Hamilcar had almost complete control over foreign relations and military operations within the entire sphere of Carthage’s influence. If he hadn’t, the talks with Aney-Tigot would have have been much, much shorter.
Still, he longed to show the cowardly, lazy aristocrats the place in society they truly deserved. His plans with the Aneyans, if successful, would bring him one step closer to that goal…
Diplomacy:
To: Tartessus
From: Carthage
Carthage is willing to extend direct trade to an Iberian power. Iberian products are in high demand, after all. Of course, should a war occur between you and a Mediterranean power, we cannot guarantee that your merchants will reach Carthage safely. And as you could obvious guess, warring with us or an ally would cancel all agreements.
The Farow Feb 05, 2006, 07:04 PM From:Tartessus
To: Carthage
We thank you for allowing our merchants to sell their products in Carthage.
Cuivienen Feb 05, 2006, 07:17 PM Long and a bit rambling, but a story nonetheless.
In the beginning… there was no beginning. There was Nothing, as there always was and always would be Nothing. Yet in that nothing there existed, if it could be said to exist, the Being. The Being was neither true nor false, neither rational nor irrational, neither visible nor invisible. It was simply Nothing.
Yet there was some consciousness in Nothing, some will, and, at the moment of Creation, if Creation can be said to have had a moment, for it was and is and always will be, the Gods sprang from the Being and into the Nothing, though they, too, were nothing.
The Gods, however, were true and were rational and, if they so chose, were visible, for they were the groundings of the Being in Creation. Of these Gods there were many, but three were the Rulers, and they were the brothers Osiris and Set and their sister, Isis, and to them all of the other Gods were subservient.
In the Nothing that was Creation the consciousness of the Gods manifested itself, and they governed themselves as entities without bounds, and lived, if Gods can be said to live, in Nothing. Yet there was strife also between the Gods, for they were of different consciousnesses of the Being and did not agree on such unknown things that Gods might discuss. And all grievances were brought before the Three Gods that Ruled, and they were settled.
Yet the Three Gods themselves were not always of like mind, and often two ruled together against the third, and tensions grew. Yet to the minds of Isis and Osiris the tensions were passing, and grievances were forgiven, yet to Set this was not so, for Set came from the part of the mind of the Being that never forgets, and he held his grievances within and waited.
And so it came that a ruling was handed down by the Three against a servant of Set. It was one of yet many in which Set had been overruled, but Set had not forgotten the earlier times. With his followers, Set left Creation and departed for the darkness of the outer Nothing.
In Creation, then, Isis wandered, and bereaved of her estrangement with her brother came to conceive things that might lessen her pain, and so she created Something, a surface to walk upon, and a light to guide her way. And all the Gods could feel her pain, and see it, and walk upon it where there had been Nothing. And Osiris came to her and told her the wrong that she had done in the marring the Nothing of Creation and what might come of it, yet she refused him and did not renounce the Something.
Set, too, felt the Something when it came into Existence, and he returned swiftly to Creation to see the Something for himself, though he avoided the other Gods. And though he stepped forth but briefly onto the Something, he could not shake the knowledge of the Something from his head, and wished to have that which Isis had Created.
And so Set returned to the Nothing and gathered his followers among the Gods and prepared to claim the Something for his own. They came unto Creation and stepped forth onto the Something and made it Earth, and shaped it in their own desires, with tall mountains and deep valleys that might catch an unwary, tangible God by surprise. And Isis, walking upon the Earth, felt the changes Set wrought, and wrought her own changes to counteract his, and created water and air to dull the peaks and fill the valleys and called upon her servants to restore the Earth.
And so it came to be that Isis and Set waged a war of creation, the war that is now called the War of Creation, and both shaped the Earth in their own image and neither could completely undo the changes of the other, yet Osiris watched and was saddened. And as the War progressed, Set realized that he would not wrest Earth from Isis, and instead took to destroying that which Isis created, and the seas were muddied and boiled and the air was shorn away and spread across the Nothing.
And so Osiris came to Earth, for the spread of Something across the Nothing violated the ancient principle that the Nothing was, is and always would be, and he stepped upon the Earth between the forces of Isis and the forces of Set, and Set’s face was twisted with malice and hate, for in the war he had come to hate the other Gods while Isis hated only the damages wrought by Set.
And Set assaulted and Osiris, and they fought, and Set defeated Osiris but was weakened, and Isis banished him at last. Isis came unto Osiris, and nursed him and she could, but he was grievously wounded as only a God may be, and was powerless. And so Isis brought him to shelter, in after days known simply as the Caves, and she repaired what was left to repair of the Earth, and added what honor she could of Osiris’s to it, that the Earth might bring forth new Gods that would oppose Set, though Gods themselves cannot create other Gods.
erez87 Feb 06, 2006, 02:24 AM Still no NPC stats or no North King for that matter... I guss i'll send orders without knowing the NPC's..
Orders soon...
Azale Feb 06, 2006, 04:49 AM Dont know if youve done an update recently...Im still in this NES though, orders later today homies.
Finmaster Feb 06, 2006, 05:45 AM Is it still possible to join? And if yes, can I make a nation that isn't in the green/red zone (seems to be very crowded there..), I'm fine with a nation that isn't going to become an uberpower just yet (I can wait.. ;))
I was thinking of starting in modernday Yemen as the nation of Sheba! If that's fine by the mod, of course.
Sheba
Ruler/Player: King Dedan / Finmaster
Age: Early Bronze Age
Religion: animism
Government: despotism
Income: 1
Manpower: Average
Army: 20 hundreds
Navy: 10 ships
Education: Horrible

Lord_Iggy Feb 06, 2006, 08:33 AM Stormbringer, could you answer my diplo? I need a response to send orders!
Lord_Iggy Feb 06, 2006, 08:33 AM Wait... I see his plan now.
Stormbringer Feb 06, 2006, 09:01 AM Stormbringer, could you answer my diplo? I need a response to send orders!
Sorry, what diplo, did I miss something else?
erez87 Feb 06, 2006, 09:12 AM I will pull out of Cyprus. You will get all of the land Dazaria ever possessed there. In exchange, the Hittites will be dropped out of the alliance, as their purpose in threatening me is gone. The people of Dazaria will avenge their ancestors lost to the murderous Hatti.
This diplo storm.
Stormbringer Feb 06, 2006, 09:40 AM I thought I said that I will consider it and talk to all of my allies, but since the diplo was posted the day before orders were due we have to wait until the next turn to figure out whether Dazaria will be allowed in or not.
North King Feb 06, 2006, 01:58 PM It's ok, Finn.
erez87 Feb 06, 2006, 02:02 PM OOC: well I sent orders without NPC stats.. I will assume Sicily won't be THAT strong...
Disenfrancised Feb 06, 2006, 02:03 PM OOC: well I sent orders without NPC stats.. I will assume Sicily won't be THAT strong...
This is part of NK's subtle plan to get us to attack PCs
Lord_Iggy Feb 06, 2006, 02:19 PM Oh geez, I hope I'm not sending orders too late.
Sent.
conehead234 Feb 06, 2006, 04:44 PM Orders coming tonight.
North King Feb 06, 2006, 07:56 PM Orders won't be accepted later than tonight.
ThomAnder Feb 06, 2006, 08:02 PM EDIT: Orders sent
conehead234 Feb 06, 2006, 08:02 PM Gah, I don't have time. I quit.
Chieftess Feb 06, 2006, 08:14 PM OOC - hmm, since there's so much going on here (I was kind of hoping that it would be fewer people - something to get my feet wet in), I think I'll leave the game, so someone else can substitute for me...
Stormbringer Feb 06, 2006, 08:20 PM No, Chieftess, you can't leave, we have to teach you the great art of NESing
Azale Feb 07, 2006, 06:31 PM to NK, ill concede I was wrong to start in Scotland
to emu, Ill concede that I am indeed, a dumbazz.
You can erase scotland like it never happened, watch me join as some random npc you create, and screw my nation over however you like :p
Jason The King Feb 07, 2006, 06:45 PM Where is our update? Dont pull the dieing infant again, north king. I wont stand for it.
North King Feb 07, 2006, 06:49 PM 14 orders. I know I have more players than that. Of course, I told them they were out of luck, so that might be it. More important of a factor is that it's a weekday, and that I'm preparing a bit of stuff for a performance at the end of this week.
alex994 Feb 08, 2006, 12:04 AM I have to quit. Not enough time
Lord_Iggy Feb 08, 2006, 11:05 AM Forget about those who don't send orders. Weed them out!
MjM Feb 08, 2006, 04:31 PM Mwahaa, alex quit. I win. :p
Cuivienen Feb 08, 2006, 05:56 PM Forget about those who don't send orders. Weed them out!
Agreed. 14 players is still more than the average NES.
erez87 Feb 08, 2006, 11:22 PM Besides, you said you will have a dead-line, with dead as the main idea in it... That you won't care about those who didn't sent orders and won't wait for them...
ThomAnder Feb 08, 2006, 11:49 PM @MjM: you have emu and i to play with still :)
homeyg Feb 09, 2006, 09:31 PM I would like to quit (seems like you guys want less players)..
Cuivienen Feb 09, 2006, 09:57 PM No, no, not at all! The contrary! We just want to encourage NK not to "lose hope" because so many people are quitting. You're being counterproductive by quitting ;)
erez87 Feb 09, 2006, 10:18 PM I would like to quit (seems like you guys want less players)..
No... No we don't.. Where you got that impression?
NK please update :(
Lord_Iggy Feb 09, 2006, 10:43 PM Baby killer!!!
The Farow Feb 10, 2006, 08:06 PM Is there going to be an update? I would hate to see my first NES go before it really ever started. Please update!
Stormbringer Feb 10, 2006, 08:15 PM dang it, when are we doing to get a good fresh start NES that actually survives?
Jason The King Feb 10, 2006, 08:35 PM dang it, when are we doing to get a good fresh start NES that actually survives?
Seriously. I feel like starting one just because this is getting to become so ridiculous.
MjM Feb 10, 2006, 08:43 PM Hey, feel free Jason. :p Though I feel like starting up a simple Jasonesque Fresh Start NES.
Stormbringer Feb 10, 2006, 08:47 PM Me too Jason, but seeing how my last NES went I'll wait until summer to start another
Lord_Iggy Feb 10, 2006, 11:24 PM Hey, LINESII is starting up soon. It's a fresh start, non-magic.
andis-1 Feb 11, 2006, 04:50 AM Hey, LINESII is starting up soon. It's a fresh start, non-magic.

Kal'thzar Feb 11, 2006, 05:19 AM Hey you're gonna have to wait until one of the teams kills the other off, or the world blows up.
andis-1 Feb 11, 2006, 06:06 AM Hey you're gonna have to wait until one of the teams kills the other off, or the world blows up.

Lord_Iggy Feb 11, 2006, 12:33 PM I believe that this NES is toast. I was telling andis when my update would be posted, since he seemed interested.YES!!!!!!!!!
MjM Feb 12, 2006, 11:51 AM So this one did actually die? -_-
