This year seems to be headed for an RTS strong year, where as '05 was FPS focused.

I am looking forward to the Medieval 2: Total War (even though strangely I don't own any of the predecessors!) and the new pirate based games such as "Tortuga: Pirate's Revenge" and "Pirates of the Burning Sea". The new "Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War" looks pretty cool, and there is another ancient-based RTS called Sparta. I also loved Act of War and am anticipating highly the expansion for it "High treason". I am also going to purchase the expansion to Cossacks II when it comes out in the summer.

IMO Rise&Fall and MTW2 look most promising strategy games of next year.

I updated my video card because Civ IV stupidly went 3D, but that's all I'm doing. I mean, come on, it's a strategy game. You don't need the stupid eye candy.

Xp for Act of War
Medieval 2: Total War
Tortuga Pirates Revenge
Rise of Legends
Rise and Fall Civs at War
Maybe an FPS

I'm looking forward to: Neverwinter Nights 2, Dragon Age, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords, Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday. I might even try the Age of Conan, even though I avoid MMORPGs.

That is, if I have any time for other games than Civ 4. :D

Medieval II: TotalWar: Day one purchase. This franchise has never let me down. Rise of Legends: Day one purchase. Brian Reynolds has never let me down. COMBAT MISSION: ShockForce: Meh. Odds are I'll never so much as pick up the box. The Guild 2: I still haven't gotten around to playing the first one. I have it, though. GhostWars: Extreme maybe. Every so often I get chomped on by the RTS bug. But RoL will probably fill that void. Game looks purty, though Heroes of Might and Magic V: You know, I've never gotten into this series. I doubt I'll start here. Society: No way in hell. Warhammer: Mark of Chaos: I'll end up buying this if reviews are even half-way positive. I LOVED Dawn of War. MTW:2 is high on my to buy list :D seconded with the new TA. Warhammer of course, so far only warhammer franchise game that was worth buying, its Dawn of War. Really incredible i hope this one is as good if not better.

Has anyone actually heard anything conclusive about Tortuga : Pirates Revenge? It looks like it'll turn out to be a decent game, but the forums at the developer are dead, and theres no real news I could find, despite the fact that it's to be released Q1.

I'm definitely getting Supreme Commander and Flight Simulator X!

D&D online might be fun though likely expensive with a monthly fee while Hearts of Iron 2's expansion might be worth it but it doesn't look any different from HOI2 regular or even HOI1 for that matter.

All those economic and city building games look interesting to me.

Seriously, I think that outshoots SPORE even for me... I just hope it's easier to keep track of than RTW... I much prefer MTW 1 to RTW...

The worst part about al lthese games is that my 2 year old computer is now basically obsolete when it comes to PC games. It can barely run R:TW and cIV, and the Star Wars: Empire at War Demo said my computer doesn't have the required 3d graphics(even though I can still run it at lowest graphics better than the above 2 games)

I'm really looking forward to GC2 and Spore. I'm almost salivating over them...

Why does that make a difference? Do the graphics improve through the game?!

The game begins with one celled organisms, then your lifeforms become more complex with each new generation, becoming marine animals then land animals then creating societies.

Sigh, I wish everyone would get off their "lets push graphics cards as far as we can" horse. It doesn't make the game any better, just makes them extremely difficult to play on any sort of barely obsolete system. And personally I'd much rather have my laptop then a desktop system.

I think the point is to make the graphics more impressive. I know there have been a few times in RTW where I have been impressed by watching a siege in a sand storm with the general's cavalry almost out of sight. So for me it does make the game better and generally you can turn down the options if you want to play it on a less capable system.
