I would like to selflessly Nominate MYSELF as presidential candidate.

After a close call in the PD election I have decided to take my leadership capabilities to a higher office.

My fellow citizens of <insert name here>,

I come before you to share my vision and plans for the future of our society. With so many new faces in our tribe, changes in how we are organized, and differences between this 4th world we have colonized and the ones which came before, we face many challenges which must be overcome to allow us to be successful, and more importantly have fun doing it. A leader, especially the President, should not be primarily a decision maker. Of course, some decisions must be made at this level and I do not shirk that responsibility, but I see the larger task before me, should you deem me worthy, as one of being a visionary guide, coach, and motivator.

What do we need to do to get this settlement well grounded and moving forward to world domination in some form, while keeping our people involved and having fun? This is the key question that we must answer, and it will take action on several critical problems to maximize both fun and results.

The [civ4] game is in a phase where there is little to get excited about. All games start out this way, with many turns of relative boredom between significant decisions, spiced with the occasional news flash about finding a new resource, attacks by animals, or making contact with another tribe. We need to expedite this part of the game and get to the meaty part where more people have an actual role to perform. Succession games often play 15 or 20 turns during this period for a reason, and it's a good one. I will push for a faster decision making process and closely packed play sessions to increase our energy level.
We lack a national identity. The fact that I have to open my platform with "citizens of <insert name here>" is direct evidence of this, and it threatens to kill participation due to lack of roleplay opportunities. We must complete the work of deciding who we are and start forming our personas, or at least the people who want to do that need to have the opportunity. I will do what I can to move this process along.
The people are crying out for information. I will seek volunteers for a cartography department and an information department, and pressure the office holders to provide all the citizens with enough information to be a part of the game. The Director of Intelligence will also have a key role of educating our people on the attributes and tendencies of our adversaries, as well as keeping us current on the situation.
We are finding that the rules in place have a lot of rough edges. Freed from the bounds of impartiality as a member of the Court, I will be able to assist citizens with ideas for rule changes in getting those changes through the system.
A lot of new citizens are likely to hold offices or have other official roles. One of the most important things experienced officials (like me) can do is mentor / coach the inexperienced. I will also take responsibility to help our officials stay on track, with gentle nudges in the right direction. These are the critical problems as I have identified them, and a little about my approach to dealing with them. Of course I fully expect there may be other issues of interest, and input is welcome at any time.

Respectfully,
DaveShack

Thanks BCLG. I don't think my place is in an office. At least not this term.
