This has probably already been mentioned before, but it was a difficult thing to search on.
Apart from the usual benifits of the wonder there is something else that happens that can occasionally be of great benifit.
All the other civilisations that were building that wonder obviously will now have to stop, but they will of course get some money back in compensation, just as you would if your attempt failed.
I have found quite often in the game I have things to trade but none of the other civs have anything I want, certainly they seldom have enough money to make me want to give them a tech or even the world map, but it is always worth checking in the turn where any wonder is built to see if suddenly the other civs are flush, as quite often this is the ideal time to start trade negotiations. They not only have more money, but often can afford more per turn than at any other time...
