This poll shall be used to finally determine the name of our fair nation. The names, which have been submitted in various places during the course of the first term. Here are the current candidate names:

Licentia - submitted by Swissempire - Latin for 'freedom'
Oceania - submitted by I am the Future - based on Geroge Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four
Augostine - submitted by 5star_us
The People's Democratic State of Empiria - submitted by Bengeance
Fattieland - submitted by Tubby Rowever
'Fantica' variant - submitted by Octavian X
Egypt - default name
None of the above
Abstain

The poll will run for four days, and is public. Some previous discussion has occured in the Unofficial Office of the Name (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=154235) as well as another thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=146702) with other national symbol proposals.

Once the name is selected, we will move on to formally deciding how to name our civilization in the game (like the civ adjective, formal, leader name, etc.).

Please note the special condition of the 'Fanatica' variant choice. Should this choice win, we will move on to another stage in which the actual variant is chosen. Also note the None of the Above option - should this option win, the poll will be scrapped and more time given for new name suggestions.

Now, please vote!

I forgot the 'Egypt' and 'None of the Above' options for the poll. If those wanting to vote for these options will kindly wait until a moderator adds the options, your patience would be greatly apprecated. :D

Or if you want either of those, you COULD vote for Licentia;)

Or if you don't want either of those you could vote for Licentia

Feel how it rolls off the tongue

I salute you my fellow Licentians(hopefully!)

I would suggest that the citizens be called Empirians if the People's Democratic State of Empiria wins out.

If Empiria wins can we shorten it to just the one word?

Waiting to vote until this vitally important issue is resolved. :crazyeye:

I'm probably the only one who still likes good ol' Fanatica. Maybe we'll save it for a future ISDG.

Fattieland was suggested as a bad suggestion by SwissEmpire. I took it on because I liked underdogs and stuff people tell me that I can do.

I didn't submit it... jsut champion it. Not that I'm fat but the old names were pretty stiff and dull. Oceana would be a good name if we were on an 'peligo. Empira would be nice but the official name is a bit stuffy.

I'm not sure we can use a derogatory term. Would anyone like to change their vote with this in mind?

It ain't derogatory if it targets no one, is it? And I wouldn't change my vote for anything but a good hearty breakfast with baked beans and full of SPAM.

Yer but it just makes the game look a bit stupid, what do others do when the people who voted for it start dropping out?

I don't see any reason that we can't shorten the official name to just Empiria. As suggestor I am perfectly fine with that.

Out of curiossity can a new poll be made at a later date to change the name?

If so we could let Fattieland run its natural(y short) course and then hold a new vote for a better name.

Swissempire

OR.... We could all vot Licentia

I think a more Egypt themed name would be best, Oceania sounds cool but doesn't fit, and for the others like Licentia and Fattieland, i'm not sure would they exactly mean, some symbolism would be really good.

@vikingruler: Fattieland means it's a bad name to call anything with. Hope I cleared things up.

I'm treading into uncharted territory here, so tread lightly i will. I am of the personal opinion that Names require only a majority of votes, because they are nothing more than a election for that name. But others may see different. There are no laws concerning this, and that is a concern. The Flag poll was announced with the intention of a Finals, but the Name, Motto and ANthem were not. NEither was the City name boaring Wallow held to this standard. So i would call for Citizien discussion and Judicial Review on the subject of naming, but for now, I declare the name of our Great Nation Licentia, and i hope my fellow Licentians will take a large interest in the subject of name law!

Thanks, that sounds good. A slight technicality, it's a plurality since no option has >50% of the votes -- but what you seem to mean is "most votes wins".

BCLG100
Feb 03, 2006, 10:16 AM
i think we should have a run off, not that i want fattieland to win, just because of the amount of options we had, ith less the votes would make more of a difference.

Tubby Rower

I don't think that a run-off is necessary. Polls are polls. This wasn't even close. Sure some of the other options pulled a few votes away from the two front runners, but that is one of the drawbacks of giving people many choices.

Licentia should stand as our country's name.
