View Full Version : The Sumerian Empire
Takeo Feb 03, 2006, 11:05 AM The Sumerian Empire
This game was based around the idea of the AI having lots of units, like on Deity, but with a slow tech pace. It started out as a regent difficulty game to get the slow tech pace. Then other changes were made so the AI would have many units, lots of warfare, leaders and armies. Here are a few highlights of the rest of the mod(some changes may not make sense, just wanted to have fun!).
--All middle eastern and mediterranean civs-12 total--I'm playing Sumeria.
--Every civ has a new color.
--All civs are Militaristic, Religious and one other trait.
--Each civ starts with Warror Code or the Wheel.
--AI aggressiveness is at max.
--All techs are required and selective ones are very expensive.
--Communications trading is with Writing, map trading with Map Making.
--Heroic Epic moved to Warrior Code-no requirements.
--Military Academy moved to Feudalism-produces army every 10 turns.
--Intelligence Agency moved to Monarchy.
--Temple of Artemis produces a Warrior Monk every 3 turns.
--Statue of Zues requires horses, not ivory.
--Unit health points are conscript 3, regular 4, veteran 5, elite 7.
--Diplomat and spy missions reduced in price.
--Cost factor for AI is regent
--AI starts with 2 settlers and 4 workers.(a few civs get 3 settlers)
--Unit support bonus- 6 per city.
--AI to AI trade at 100
--Corruption at 80% of normal.
--All UU, except Enkidu warriors, discounted in price 60-70%.
--AI has 8 exclusive units at a 60-70% discount.
Examples-archer, guerilla and light tank.
--There are 5 units that Sumeria has substitute animation for and the AI gets a 50-60% discount on the original unit.
Example-Sumeria uses the rider animation for its knight, it is 70 shields and has an ADM of 4/3/2. The AI uses the knight animation(except Arabia) and it is 35 shields and an ADM of 4/3/2.
--Most other units are discounted around 40%-Sumeria shares this.
--Sumeria starts with Gilgamesh. He is a normal unit, not a king unit, and has swordsman stats and will start a Golden Age with a win. Enkidu warriors cannot start a GA, so Sumeria has a lone unit to start a GA with.
--New units- machinegunner, mercenary, light tank and warrior monk. The mercenary uses berserker animation and has no nationality.
It is a huge map, pangaea with a few islands, no barbs and all win conditions are available. Blah, blah, blah. Let's get to the game!

4000 B.C.
For generations the Sumerian people wandered thru the wilderness and had enjoyed their nomadic existence. The time of gathering roots, berries and chasing after wild game, were coming to an end though. Some Sumerians wanted to begin farming the land for food and others wanted to build shelters to have protection from predators and the elements. When their leader came down with a serious illness, the decision was finally made to stop and erect some shelters. The healers did all they could, but the Sumerian leader soon died. His son, Gudea, stepped in and lead the people in a time of mourning.
Later, acting on his fathers final words, Gudea declared the 'time of wandering' to be over. All the temporary shelters were slowly converted to more permanent dwellings and Gudea gave the settlement the name of Ur.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s1-4000bc.JPG
As the town's population grew, it became harder for Gudea to keep track of everything. To help him, a number of townsfolk were broght before Gudea, to keep him apprised of the current state of affairs. A team of six advisors was formed, each one an expert in a certain area of knowledge. Five of the new advisors left and quickly got to work, while the science advisor came before Gudea.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s2-research_masonry.JPG
Gudea did not want to be involved in things he did not understand, at least for the time being. The direction of study was instantly approved. The domestic advisor was told to begin funding the research, but to always keep a positive flow of gold going into the treasury. Gudea wanted to be ready for anything that may come his way, that would require gold.(Masonry at min.)
Gilgamesh, friend of Gudea, helped to guard the town from predators, until a group of warriors could be trained to take over.
3750 B.C.
With Enkidu warriors now protecting the town, Gilgamesh sets out to explore the surrounding territory.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s3-gilgamesh_scouting.JPG
Gudea, remembering stories his father told him of other peoples of the world, commisions Gilgamesh to seek them out and befriend them.
2950 B.C.
Lord McCauley makes contact with the cultural advisor and reveals a list of the wealthiest tribes in the world.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s4-wealthiest.JPG
Gudea smiles widely, seeing that Sumeria is on the list. The smile is brief, as he realizes that one of the tribes his father told him about is wealthier.
Gilgamesh has traveled all over the country surrounding Ur and has so far seen no others.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s5-maps_2950bc.JPG
2850 B.C.
Gilgamesh makes contact with a tribe who call themselves the Ottomans.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s6-meet_ottomans.JPG
Their leader, Osman, seems annoyed but says he is pleased that King Gudea is in good health.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s7-meet_osman.jpg
After hearing the flattering words, Gudea is more than willing to trade knowledge with Osman.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s8-trade_for_wc.JPG
The trade makes the science advisor very happy. Any science knowledge that he and his colleagues can look at, study and expand upon is welcome to them.
As Gilgamesh leaves the area, the Ottomans are no longer annoyed, but are still a bit cautious of their new neighbors.
King Gudea's advisors begin to bring in reports, about the Ottomans, that very same day.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s8a-FA_on_Osman.jpg
Military Advisor-Compared to the Ottomans, we have a strong military!
Cultural Advisor-The Ottoman people are impressed with our culture.
Science Advisor-The knowledge of Warrior Code allows us to build a barracks-like project. This building will better train our military, so that during epic battles some will heroically step forward to lead the rest.
Gudea smiled; his advisors were working out great!

Mirc Feb 03, 2006, 12:55 PM :woohoo: First post AND a new story. :woohoo:
Mr David Feb 03, 2006, 03:24 PM Sounds like a very intricate and interesting mod. Are you going to share it with the public?
Also, is that chariot army in your avvie something you made up or is it a hint of things to come in the story? :mischief:
tupaclives Feb 03, 2006, 04:01 PM Hurray Takeo is back!! :bounce: And this game could be even better than the last! [party] :band:
stocktracker Feb 03, 2006, 04:03 PM I will have fun watching all of the wars in this game, I can tell that this game will have tons of them.
Lord_Iggy Feb 03, 2006, 08:19 PM Yeah! Takeo is BACK!
conquer_dude Feb 03, 2006, 09:14 PM YEAH!!! The stories are continued. Woohoo! :)
Takeo Feb 04, 2006, 07:55 AM Are you going to share it with the public?
Also, is that chariot army in your avvie something you made up or is it a hint of things to come in the story?
No, I don't really have the time or inclination to support the release of a mod and answer questions about it and work out bugs.:(
Anyway, there is nothing custom about the mod. All the changes could be done by anyone in their own editor. The added units are from [ptw] and [c3c]. There is an excellent tutorial in the creation forum that tells how to add units. A bunch of the changes were not really balanced against other changes in the mod. Just went thru making changes with abandon.
The mod has only been tested in the ancient age, who knows what will happen in the medieval and industrial.
As of yet, Gudea does not have a chariot army in game. I just think that the general standing there with a war banner looks cool!
conquer_dude Feb 04, 2006, 08:49 AM And so this is on sid, am I correct?
Takeo Feb 04, 2006, 09:12 AM 2800 B.C.
A group of Enkidu warriors, out on patrol, comes across the ruins of an ancient city.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s9-earthquake_devastation.JPG
A few small buildings still stand on the edge of the former city, but the central part of the city is a pile of rubble. A few survivors tell of the cataclysm that struck the city. Speaking in hushed tones, as if fearful it may happen again, they tell that the ground shook violently one day, all the buildings came tumbling down, and the ground opened up and swallowed part of the city.
The Sumerian warriors move on, visibly shaken by the tragedy.
2710 B.C.
Enkidu warriors bring in news of two important resources to the west of Ur- horses & wine.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s10-horse_wine.JPG
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s10a-MA_on_horses.jpg
King Gudea- Send some warriors to secure the area and as soon as it's ready-bring me some wine!
2670 B.C.
Another earthquake-ravaged city is found; this one even larger than the first one found.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s11-2nd_earthqu_city.JPG
Gudea begins to wonder if this was a good area to settle in.
2510 B.C.
Gilgamesh, while exploring southwest of the Ottomans, has spotted a ship at sea.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s12-byz_ship.JPG
He quickly climbs a hill and from the height is able to get the ship's attention. The vessel belongs to a seafaring people called the Byzantines, led by Theodora.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s13-theodira.JPG
With his people having put their nomadic existence far behind them, Gudea agrees with Theodora to stand on the side of the civilized.
After the meeting ends, Gudea has his advisors brought in to report on this new foreign power.
Military Advisor- Our military is weak, compared to Theodora's. We should train more Enkidu warriors.
Foreign Advisor- The Byzantine nation is much larger than ours, with a total of five cities. Empress Theodora is annoyed with us, so be wary of her.
Science Advisor- The knowledge of Bronze Working, that she has, would not be of much use to us and would not improve our Enkidu warriors. But, superior methods and materials could lay beyond the use of bronze weapons. We may see a breakthru in the research of Masonry soon, and maybe it could be traded for Bronze Working, if that is your desire.
Gudea finally knew for sure that his people were not all alone in the world. He began to see the potential gain, if not threat, that all these new friends could bring.
2430 B.C.
To the southwest of Ur, a patrolling Enkidu has encountered the Babylonians and contact is made.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s14-meet_babylon.JPG
In spite of Hammurabi's superior attitude, Gudea smiles and attempts a trade of knowledge.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s15-wheel_for_bw.JPG
King Gudea leaves the trading session knowing that Hammurabi is arrogant and overconfident. He sits on his throne to ponder this new situation and then waves his advisors forward.
Only two of them have comments-
Military Advisor- My King, the Babylonians are weak! Unfortunately, knowledge of the Wheel could make them stronger.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s15a-SA_on_bronze.jpg
King Gudea- You will receive increased funding, once you are done with Masonry. The knowledge of superior weapons can wait. First, you will find me a new way to communicate.
.
Takeo Feb 04, 2006, 09:16 AM And so this is on sid, am I correct?
It tells up in the first post all about the mod.
It started out as regent and then many changes made.
Basically, the AI will research and grow at regent speed, but will build units at deity speed.
conquer_dude Feb 04, 2006, 09:32 AM Nice update.:D i knew you said something about regent it just kinda got me confused. :crazyeye:
Own Feb 04, 2006, 09:45 AM Yay Takeo! Another story! This looks fun, I'll have to try something similar to this.
madviking Feb 04, 2006, 10:50 AM w00t!
Go, Go, Go!
SuperOmegaMan Feb 04, 2006, 10:52 AM Ahhh Takeo. You inspired me to join CivFanatics and start my own story.I LOVED your last story. But this one...I dont really like the kind of story where there is like a story, with different characters, and all that.I like the kind where you just post what happens, post your plans, all that stuff.I dont know why I dont like them,I just find them hard to read. But just cause I dont like it a little doesnt mean its not good.Good job Takeo, keep up the good work
Lord_Iggy Feb 04, 2006, 12:07 PM Nice new chapter!
Mirc Feb 04, 2006, 01:04 PM Great update!
That cities are destryoed by the Ottomans (or you don't know)?
Edit: 900th post! [party][party]:banana::dance::band::bounce::dance::band::beer:
conquer_dude Feb 04, 2006, 01:37 PM If you make a mod or a map or anything you can make rubble overlay, unless those were cities destroyued by someone.
Takeo Feb 04, 2006, 02:25 PM Thanks everyone! Glad you like it.
@SuperOmegaMan- I may be starting another story that would be just a gamelog, on Sid. Even if I did, my primary focus would still be this story here and the Sid one would probably be longer between updates.
@Mirc- Those piles of rubble are cities destroyed by earthquakes. You never know, another one could hit at any time.;)
conquer_dude Feb 04, 2006, 04:38 PM Oh so you made earthquakes on the mod, so one could like hit your city? :mischief:
Ansar Feb 04, 2006, 04:52 PM Subscribed, the Takeo stories must go on.:goodjob:
Takeo Feb 05, 2006, 05:08 PM 2230 B.C.
To the east, another tribe has been discovered and they are called the Carthaginians.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s16-carthage_border.JPG
Hannibal of Carthage meets with King Gudea, speaks briefly of his hated enemy-Caesar, and then makes a quick exit.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s17-MA_on_carthage_and_rome.JPG
Gudea wondered if it would be wise to put off researching superior weapons, when there are rumors of war to the east. Only time would tell.
2150 B.C.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s18-wine_connected.JPG
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s19-masonry.JPG
Science Advisor- Our research will progress well, due to this generous funding. Once we construct an Alphabet, we will then be able to learn Writing and eventually record our history.
Gudea was eager to see the history of his people recorded for all time, but was sad his father was not here to see the progress the Sumerian people had made.
2070 B.C.
Some Hittite peasants, and their escort, are spotted southeast of Babylonian territory.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s20-meet_hittites.JPG
Gudea grew really perturbed with this threat and was about to answer, when the Foreign Advisor whispered in his ear.
Foreign Advisor- Do not provoke him, Great One, for he has seven cities to our three and the Military Advisor says Mursilis has a superior military.
Gudea held his tongue and played nice with the Hittite King for the rest of the meeting, but there were no offers or trades forthcoming.
1910 B.C.
After traveling far to the east, Gilgamesh has found the Romans.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s22-meet_rome.JPG
Wonder of the world? Gudea was beginning to see that some rulers of the world were either drunk or insane.
The meeting with the Roman leader was brief, as Caesar's military advisor interrupted and called him away. As Gudea left the meeting, he overheard the two of them mention Carthage and General Hannibal several times.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s22-MA_talks.JPG
1475 B.C.
Weary from his long journey, Gilgamesh arrives back at Ur with many stories to tell.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s23-gilgamesh_arrives_home.JPG
King Gudea embraces his friend and welcomes him home.
1425 B.C.
A couple of advisors come before King Gudea, to tell him of a potential trade with Carthage.
Foreign Advisor- Carthage is willing to trade knowledge- their Pottery for our Wheel. Most of the nations we have contact with already know of the Wheel, and if any of them trade it to Carthage, the oppurtunity would be lost.
Domestic Advisor- I agree with this trade, my King. The granaries we could then build, would allow our cities to grow faster.
Gudea, needing no further prodding, made contact with Hannibal to complete the trade.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s24-trade_4_potterry.JPG
.
Lord_Iggy Feb 05, 2006, 05:57 PM So, what's with the earthquakes?
Takeo Feb 05, 2006, 06:01 PM So, what's with the earthquakes?
Just a little story embellishment.:)
stocktracker Feb 05, 2006, 06:01 PM I bet the AI won't tolerate you for much longer. I can tell that you are preparing for war with Carthage.
Ansar Feb 05, 2006, 06:59 PM How'd you make the AI civs color and yours different?
Takeo Feb 05, 2006, 07:24 PM How'd you make the AI civs color and yours different?
You can do it in the editor.
It is called 'team colors' under the civilizations tab.
conquer_dude Feb 05, 2006, 07:29 PM Nice story.:D
Takeo Feb 06, 2006, 05:23 PM 1400 B.C.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s25-alphabet.JPG
Science Advisor-Great One, we have assembled an Alphabet and can now begin to learn Writing. Before long we will be able to record our history and also sign written agreements with other nations.
Gudea continued to fund research generously, but only to the point of still having a positive flow of gold.
When he was a boy, Gudea had experianced a vivid dream one night, that apparently was about his future. In the dream, he had introduced to the world a series of patterns and symbols, that could be used to communicate with. Upon opening the scrolls the science advisor handed him, Gudea knew this Alphabet was what he had dreamed about all those years ago.
King Gudea had his foreign advisor immediately contact all known nations.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s25a-FA_on_trade.jpg
Whether the other leaders had something to trade or not, Gudea was prepared to spread the Alphabet across the world.
>Byzantines- Theodora willingly gave the secrets of Ceremonial Burial & 70 gold for the Alphabet.
>Hittites- Mursilis offered up knowledge of Horseback Riding, but asked for 56 gold to be sent with the Alphabet.
>Babylon- Hammurabi was unwilling to part with knowledge his experts had uncovered-the ability to shape iron into instruments of war.
King Gudea gave all other nations, including Babylon, the knowledge of Alphabet as a free gift. He had fulfilled the dream, that he had experianced so long ago, and he was very happy.
Foreign Advisor- Your Majesty, most of our neighbors are now polite towards us. This is a very generous thing you have done!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s25b-CA_advice.jpg
Gudea nodded with agreement. This would be a good idea for the town of Agade, with it being so close to the Ottoman town of Uskudar.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s26-temple_started.JPG
1225 B.C.
King Gudea was just sitting down to a feast, when the foreign advisor entered with a worried look on his face.
Foreign Advisor- The Byzantines are here and wish to speak directly to you.
Gudea- Show them in.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s27-byzantine_demand.JPG
This was something new to King Gudea. He had never known anyone to outright demand anything from him! Was Theodora doing this cause she had to trade something for Alphabet, when most other nations received it for free?
With the military advisor revealing that Byzantium was militarily powerful, Gudea gave her the knowledge that she demanded.
Before the King could collect his thoughts, another foreign emissary was ushered into the room.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s28-carthage_demand.JPG
The Military Advisor put in a few words.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s28a-MA_advice.jpg
Knowing that the military advisor was right, Gudea once more turned over the secrets of Horseback Riding and it left a bad taste in his mouth.
With Hannibal's parting words still fresh in his mind-
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s29-hannibals_parting_words.JPG
Gudea vowed the he would never give in again. NO MORE!
The military advisor was instructed to train more Enkidu warriors, corral the horses near Kish and then build chariots in all available towns.
Next time we will be better prepared, Gudea mused.:ninja:
.
conquer_dude Feb 06, 2006, 06:01 PM Ooooooooooo. Aaaaahhhhhh.
Nice story. :D

Great Story. You know you are doing something right when this is the only Civ3 thread I read anymore.
stocktracker Feb 06, 2006, 10:02 PM War is soon to break out, it looks exciting.
Mirc Feb 07, 2006, 12:59 PM It is as good as your last story.... I first thought.... if I think more it is much better!!!!!!!!!!
Smart Feb 07, 2006, 04:34 PM Good story, I will follow it. I like this kind of stories with different characters and events, not just a turnlog with pictures. :goodjob:
I can tell that you are preparing for war with Carthage.
War is soon to break out, it looks exciting.
Why do you want to see many wars in every story?
stocktracker Feb 07, 2006, 04:43 PM Why do you want to see many wars in every story?
Wars or competition of any sort between the AI and the human player are interesting. I always learn something out of it.
Smart Feb 07, 2006, 04:57 PM War is not only one possible way to get lead in game, on high levels like deity or demigod you should trade and trade to get up in techs, at least in the middle of the game, because AI get huge boost in production and starting units. On regent-monarch you need just 3-4 archers for an early rush to sign then peace for AI's goods. But when you will move up in levels you will see that early war isn't good option in the most situations.
conquer_dude Feb 07, 2006, 05:25 PM I like watching AI vs AI wars. Its fun. That reminds of good ol' civ1 when whenver you started a game, a few turns later a civ will get destroyed by one other civ, and that one civ will conquer the world. :D Except not my civ of course.
Off topic, anyway, waiting for an update takeo;)
Sima Qian Feb 07, 2006, 06:22 PM Why do you want to see many wars in every story?
It's probably because wars make stories more interesting. Especially when they involve pictures of all the carnage and destruction, or the whole "paint the map my color" deal.
Which probably explains why my mostly builder story is rather boring...
conquer_dude Feb 07, 2006, 06:25 PM Your story isnt boring. Woah distraction :dubious: [offtopic]
Nah just kiddin your story rox man.
Smart Feb 07, 2006, 06:32 PM Sima Qian, your story is good, I've read every chapter when you post them, but I haven't commented much. Continue it, don't worry about lurkers :)
I like stories with good starting idea, not just to send huge amount of troops and conquer world, because Civilization is strategy game, not just killing and destroying game like Quake or Doom ;)
conquer_dude Feb 07, 2006, 06:46 PM Yup hes got a point there and we are way onto the far hills of off-topic land here. Sorry takeo, waiting for an update. :D
Sima Qian Feb 07, 2006, 06:47 PM Yup hes got a point there and we are way onto the far hills of off-topic land here. Sorry takeo, waiting for an update. :D

Takeo Feb 09, 2006, 05:49 PM 1150 B.C.
Foreign Advisor- Your Majesty, a group of warriors from the far-off land of Egypt, have appeared on the outskirts of Kish. They announced that their leader will soon be arriving.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s30-egypt_warriors.JPG
Cleopatra-Queen of Egypt, arrives with her royal entourage and many bodyguards. They are all ushered in for an audience with King Gudea. During the meeting, Gudea is dazzled by all the glitz, pageantry and especially Cleopatra's beauty.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s31-meet_cleo.JPG
After her departure, Gudea is thinking of how stunning Cleopatra was in her headress, as the military advisor steps forward.
King Gudea- I know what you are going to say- the Egyptians have a powerful military. Hearing that is getting very old!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s31a-MA_advice.jpg
1100 B.C.
King Gudea and Gilgamesh were taste-testing some wine, freshly shipped from Lagash, when the foreign and science advisors rushed into the room.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s31b-SA_talks.jpg
Foreign Advisor- We could offer up our contact with nations to our east for Babylon's contact with nations to their south. Hammurabi may throw in their new Writing system with the deal.
Gudea grimaced, he dreaded having to talk to Hammurabi and his superior attitude. The foreign advisor sets up a meeting between the two, and the Babylonian leader soon agrees to a deal.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s32-trade_4_writing.JPG
The acquisition of new contacts and the ability to set up communications between other nations has touched off a frenzy of trading.
>Egypt- Cleopatra trades Mysticism + contact:Greece for Writing + contact:Carthage.
>Hittites- Mursilis gives up Ironworking + 75 gold for Mysticism, Writing + contact:Carthage, Byzantines.
>Byzantines- Theodora gives contact:Zulu + 77 gold for Writing + contact:Romans.
>Greece- Alexander willingly trades contact:Persia + 73 gold for Alphabet.
>Zululand- Shaka drops off 473 gold + Byzantine worker for Alphabet, Masonry, Pottery, Ceremonial Burial and the Wheel.
Once again, Gudea meets with a world leader that thinks very highly of himself.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s33-meet_persia.JPG
Gudea laughed to himself; the ego of some of these leaders was astounding! He pondered how satisfying it will be, to knock some of them off their pedestals.
With Writing having been acquired, a new direction of research needs to be made.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s34-research_math.JPG
King Gudea- I agree, and the level of your funding will be increased.
(Mathematics @ 80% in 16 turns)
Military Advisor- My King, many of the nations we have met recently, have powerful armies. I suggest using our knowledge of iron, to make better weapons. Scouts have already been sent out to locate iron deposits.
King Gudea- Yes, we need to improve our military. A good front-line attacker to go with the mobile chariot, will balance out our forces. Inform me when the horses are corralled and iron has been found.
After looking over the scrolls listing the Alphabet and with techniques on Writing, Gudea called in the foreign advisor.
King Gudea- I wish to be in better touch with our neighbors and keep track of what they are up to. See to it that an embassy is built in every rival capital.
The foreign advisor quickly got to work and sent teams of ambassadors in all directions. Gold was sent with each team, so that they could purchase a building to operate out of.
(all embassies established)

King Gudea was surprised to see Gilgamesh and the military advisor running into the throne room, in a mad rush.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s41-ma_on_egypt.JPG
Gilgamesh- A group of Egyptian warriors apparently stayed behind, after Cleopatra left. They hid in the forest near Agade and are now pillaging outside the city. Other Egyptian forces can be seen in the distance, coming this way. I will go lead the defences at Agade, my King.
King Gudea- Take care, my friend!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s40-egypt_forces_moving_in.JPG
Soon after, the foreign advisor rushed into the room, knocking down several attendants.
Foreign Advisor- Cleopatra has declared war on us!
King Gudea- See if any of our neighbors will ally with us against Egypt. Pay anything necessary to get this done. Well, almost anything.
The embassies the foreign advisor had recently established, came in very handy in this situation. A total of five nations were willing to enter into a military alliance with Sumeria.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s41-otto_ally.JPG
Foreign Advisor- Great One, several nations have allied with us against Egypt. All of them required bribes, in order to side with us. The Hittites asked us to hand over too much, so I withdrew from that deal. Mursilis wanted our entire treasury and a tribute paid to him for every year of the war.
Military Advisor- The Egyptian warriors have been taken care of and the rest of their forces have turned around and left the area. Cleopatra must have recalled them to defend her empire.
950 B.C.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s47-horses_connected.JPG
King Gudea- It will be good to finally have some offensive forces!
Several nations finish some Great Projects-
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s48-pyramids_built_baba.JPG
875 B.C.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s51-math_learned.JPG
King Gudea- Good enough, but your funding is going to be temporarily reduced, so you will have to make do.
The science advisor nodded and was leaving the room, as the military advisor arrived.
Military Advisor- With the knowledge of Mathematics now open to us, we can figure out how to build and use catapults. We could employ some similar to what the Hittites are using.
King Gudea- Maybe we could build a really, really large catapult and from here, launch a stone at Cleopatra's head!
They both laughed and then quietly discussed the growing Sumerian military.
800 B.C.
Foreign Advisor- Carthage and the Ottomans have forsaken our alliance and made peace with Egypt.
King Gudea- Let us hope they don't turn on us, seeing how they both are our closest neighbors.
When Gudea finished speaking, he looked up to see the military advisor smiling at him.
Military Advisor- Your Majesty, iron has been found in the mountains, north of Ur. A camp has been set up to mine and develop it.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s52-iron_colony.JPG
King Gudea- Very Good! Things are looking up.
750 B.C.
King Gudea, Gilgamesh and all the advisors stood around the table, staring at the scroll laid open there. The science advisor had called it a world map and it showed the locations of all known nations and their territory. This would help tremendously in knowing where the Sumerian empire could expand, the location of important resources and also in planning any warfare.
It all started when Hannibal's wisemen uncovered the secrets of Map Making. An offer was quickly made for the knowledge-
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s53-trade_for_MM.JPG
King Gudea promptly traded for the world map of almost every nation and all the garnered information was compiled together on the scroll, that they were all currently looking at.
World Map circa. 750 B.C.

Sima Qian Feb 10, 2006, 11:35 PM Woah, I thought you said this was a continents map. Looks a lot more like pangaea + islands to me...
Takeo Feb 11, 2006, 05:34 AM Woah, I thought you said this was a continents map. Looks a lot more like pangaea + islands to me...
I went back to my first post and edited it.
You were right, I had wrote continents there. oops.
conquer_dude Feb 11, 2006, 12:09 PM Mice story, you science advisor is kinda freaky when he talks.
Takeo Feb 12, 2006, 11:49 AM 590 B.C.
Foreign Advisor- Your Majesty, all the alliances for the Egyptian war, have ended. Cleopatra was contacted and gave us her territory map, as a goodwill offering for peace.
King Gudea- It would have been nice to get more tribute than that, for her insolence, but it will do.
Gudea knew he really shouldn't wish for more than a territory map, cause it was all the other nations in the alliance, that had taken the brunt of her attacks. He sat there a while, thinking in silence, then had the military advisor brought in.
King Gudea- I would like a little room to expand and claim some territory, to the south. Draw up some plans, for a minor war with the Ottoman empire.
The military advisor's smile went from ear to ear. He left the throne room, already conceiving plans in his mind.
550 B.C.
Science Advisor- I've learned that Hammurabi has knowledge of Literature. My colleagues and I are all for anything that will help us in our research. It is our hope, that one day all of our cities will contain libraries.
A trade is made with the Babylonians-
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s55-trade_4_Lit.jpg
As the trade is being wrapped up, the military advisor walks in and waits till the Babylonian officials are out of earshot.
Military Advisor- My King, I have drawn up a battle plan, for the attack against the Ottomans.
He unrolled the scroll and showed the plan to King Gudea.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s56-battle_plan_31.jpg
Military Advisor- We will attack the Ottoman towns of Konya, Uskudar and Iznik. All three will be razed to the ground and we will found new towns at the orange locations. At your word, we will push forward for additional territory, or we can hold there and await peace negotiations. The brown dotted line is where the Ottoman national border will be pushed back to.
King Gudea- Very good! You may attack, as soon as all assault groups are in place.
490 B.C.
The next time that a demand was made of Gudea, he had swore to himself, that he would refuse it.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s57-rome_demand_Lit.jpg
King Gudea- I'm not going to 'give' you anything!
Confident with his growing military, Gudea stood his ground and refused the Roman demand.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s58-rome_dclares.jpg
Military Advisor- Our military is weak, when compared to the Romans. This will set back our attack on the Ottomans.
King Gudea- It's okay, I have an idea. With Carthage sitting between us and the Romans, maybe they could act as a shield for us. We will bring Carthage and the Ottomans, into an alliance vs. the Romans. The Ottoman forces will head east, and we will continue with our plan of attacking them.
Foreign Advisor- Breaking the alliance, when we attack the Ottomans, would not be wise. No one would want to ally with us in the future.
King Gudea- Then an alliance with just Carthage will have to do. And for the time being, we give in to no demands!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s59-carth_ally_vs_rome.jpg
450 B.C.
Domestic Advisor- Egypt has completed work on a project they call 'The Great Library'.
430 B.C.
Military Advisor- My King, our assault groups are almost in position, but some Ottoman forces are currently fortified in our territory.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s60-ask_otto_to_leave.jpg
King Gudea- Demand that they leave, then attack them while their backs are turned.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s61-otto_declares_war.jpg
410-370 B.C.
The gathered Sumerian military easily overwhelmed the few Ottoman warriors and archers, as the two nations clashed at the territorial border. The Sumerian assault groups then headed towards their targets- Konya & Uskudar.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s62-uskudar_razed.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s63-konya_razed.jpg
350 B.C.
Domestic Advisor- Byzantium has built a Colossal bronze statue over the harbor of Constantinople. The Romans have finished a great Mausoleum, dedicated to the ancient King Mausollos.
330 B.C.
Foreign Advisor- Some Ottoman emissaries have requested an audience. Will you see them?
King Gudea- No, kill them!
Domestic Advisor- Great One, two towns have been founded in the area the Ottomans 'vacated'.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s64-2_new_cities.jpg
King Gudea- Persuading them to give us a little breathing room, has been rather easy, wouldn't you say?
.
stocktracker Feb 12, 2006, 12:00 PM Why is Agade producing wealth?
Takeo Feb 12, 2006, 12:24 PM There were a few turns when I didn't need any more military units and was paying a lot of upkeep. Once a few more towns were established and a few cities in the core grew in size, the unit support went down, then the cities on wealth went back to unit building.:)
Smart Feb 12, 2006, 12:29 PM Can you build something usefull, like rax or libs in Wealth cities?
Ansar Feb 12, 2006, 01:35 PM Did you make the map? Because its really weird...pangaea with islands, btw, what are the map settings?:)
Smart Feb 12, 2006, 01:52 PM It's a mod ;)
Takeo Feb 12, 2006, 02:17 PM @Smart- at that point in the game, only 1 building could be built in most towns, which was the library. Was researching at minimum for a while and did not need the libraries built yet. Got to the point where I had a large military, and put a few cities on wealth for a few turns. Started the war, lost a few units, founded a few more cities and then all the 'wealth' cities went back to unit production.
@Ansar_the_King- Actually the pangaea part of the map is the random part. I added the islands in the center, and a couple of more islands that can't be seen yet. I think the settings were 70% pangaea, wet, warm, 5B and then a few added islands.
Ansar Feb 12, 2006, 02:48 PM 70%?!:dubious:
It looks like 80%...:p
But anyways, wheres the update?:)
conquer_dude Feb 12, 2006, 03:27 PM Yeah, updatem an. This is getting better and better. Are you gonna keep attacking the Ottomans and take them down or are you going to just stick with the plan?
Takeo Feb 16, 2006, 04:38 PM 310 B.C.
Foreign Advisor- Great One, the Greeks have contacted us with a demand.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s65-greek_demand.jpg
Foreign Advisor- As you instructed, the demand has been rejected, and Alexander has backed down.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s66-greece_backs_down.jpg
King Gudea- They had better all learn to not ask at all, cause it will do them no good.
270 B.C.
After having been persuaded by his science advisor, King Gudea contacted the Arabian empire, to attempt a trade. He trusted the science advisor, but wasn't sure the knowledge of Polytheism was really worth anything.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s68.jpg
250 B.C.
The foreign advisor came before Gudea, with a list of all the current alliances and wars, that were occurring around the world. King Gudea was not surprised to see Carthage and Rome on the list, but the Byzantines seemed to be very warmongerish.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s67-byz-rome_vs_carth.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Hannibal is contacting us about our knowledge of Polytheism. He wishes to trade for it and will teach us his system of laws and rules of conduct.
King Gudea- Carthage is keeping the Romans off our back, so I feel compelled to accept the deal, whatever it may be.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s70.jpg
Military Advisor- There is a neverending stream of units, pouring out of the town of Iznik. Could it be the Ottomans are displeased with our razing their towns and killing their emissaries? Too bad, so sad!!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s72-otto_forces.jpg
King Gudea- What is taking so long? Why isn't Iznik a pile of rubble?
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s75a-ma_on_leaders.jpg
King Gudea- I love to fish, it is very relaxing. Inform me when you have 'caught' something.
210 B.C.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s73-byz_demand_CoL.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Master, this Theodora is really making a nuisance of herself. With all the wars she is already involved in, I figured she would declare war on us also. Theodora decided to back down from her threat. Your refusal to give in to demands is doing quite well.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s74-theodora_backs_down.jpg
Military Advisor- My King, we have success! A military leader has stepped forward and guided our forces to a victory. The Ottomans were taunting our forces in Erech Forest, while standing safely on the other side of the river. Lugalzaggesi gathered some men around him, charged across the shallows of the river and killed the offending Ottomans. They were not so safe after all!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s75-great_leader.jpg
King Gudea- Good! Maybe he can lead us to a victory at Iznik.
Military Advisor- Lugalzaggesi says he can form several military units into an army. Then train them to work and move as one, making them much more effective in battle.
.
Ansar Feb 16, 2006, 05:11 PM Awesome update.And a MGL!

Takeo Feb 17, 2006, 04:32 PM Whats with the swordsman with like, lots of hp? Looks more than the normal for an elite unit.
Normal units have 4 hp
Veteran have 5 hp
Elites have 7 hp
Later on, some units also have bonus hp; like elephants, tanks, modern ships and a few others.
conquer_dude Feb 17, 2006, 06:30 PM Update? :D
Takeo Feb 17, 2006, 09:49 PM 190 B.C.
Military Advisor- The heroics of Lugalzaggesi have inspired another great military leader to step forward. Etana boldly led a second charge across the river, and the Ottomans camped there were soundly beaten again. Our swordsman units now own bragging rights over our chariot units, as both leaders have emerged from the swordsman ranks.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s76-Etana.jpg
130 B.C.
Decisive Battle
The Battle of Iznik Lake
With two defeats outside of Erech Forest, the Ottomans have abandoned that approach. They have banded together into a large formation and are headed north towards the town of Sumer. Etana's sword army, along with many other units, move towards the Ottoman forces and the two sides clash near Iznik lake. The Ottoman formation is cut to pieces, as Sumerian swordsmen rush straight in and chariots hit the flanks.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s79.jpg
Military Advisor- Supreme One, a decisive battle has been fought, north of Iznik, near their lake. A large column of Ottoman units, that was heading towards Sumer, has been completely annihilated. During the battle, we lost four military units and Osman lost thirteen.
King Gudea- Woohoo! Take that, Osman!
110 B.C.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s81a.jpg
King Gudea- If you want some of my wine, you're gonna have to pay a huge pile of gold for it.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s81-babylon_declares_war.jpg
Gudea grew mildly distressed, since all offensive forces were to the south, fighting the Ottomans. After thinking for a few moments, he gave new orders to the military and foreign advisors.
King Gudea- I want Iznik razed as soon as possible, and peace made with the Ottomans. Then move our two swordsman armies, and as many other units as we can afford to, over to fight the Babylonians. We will capitalize on this situation, by razing the Babylonian cities of Sippar & Izibia, then founding our cities there. We must see if anyone will join with us versus Babylon.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s86-baba_cities_to_raze.jpg
The foreign advisor quickly contacted the embassies in all nations bordering Babylon, seeking a military ally.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s83_hitt_ally.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Bringing the Hittites over to our side is a major triumph. As far as we know, Mursilis has not engaged in any wars, so his military should be able to give Hammurabi a lot of trouble. The Hittites have 31 cities, which leads the world, to our 19. Before long we should turn our attention towards Mursilis, before his empire gets too big.
90 B.C.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s-87a-arabia_demand.jpg
Foreign Advisor- The Arabian demand was refused and Abu Bakr has withdrawn his 'request'.

Military Advisor- Sir, Iznik has been destroyed and a settler is moving in to found a new town.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s88-iznik_razed.jpg
King Gudea- Excellent Job! Once peace is made, begin to move our forces east, to focus on Hammurabi.
Foreign Advisor- Osman has agreed to a Peace Treaty and has paid a small tribute into your treasury.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s89-peace_with_otto.jpg
King Gudea- Osman better not relax, cause we will be back!
.

Takeo Feb 18, 2006, 08:58 AM @Ansar_the_King- Here is a shot of the Carthage/Roman area. There doesn't seem to be much going on, except Carthage has captured Byzantium.

Mirc Feb 18, 2006, 11:16 AM Nice update!
Takeo Feb 18, 2006, 01:57 PM Glad you all like the updates. I think they are kind of short, since you can only put 10 images in each one. Sometime I feel like it is being cut off right when something starts to happen, cause I've hit the 10 image limit. And since I'm not a very talkitive person, I need a lot of images.
@conquer_dude- In post #63, under 250bc is a recent list of military alliances. The Byzantines, Romans and Carthage are all pretty busy.

Military Advisor- My King, here is a list of all military units lost during the conflict with Osman. It reflects the losses from both sides, but does not account for the great many wounded.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/loss.jpg
King Gudea- All those who have given their lives for this great empire, will be long remembered!
50 B.C.
Foreign Advisor- The military alliance with Carthage vs. the Romans, has come to an end. Hannibal did not wish to extend the alliance, but is more than willing to keep pounding on Caesar. Also, Theodora is more than headstrong with her warmongering ways.

King Gudea- I agree with researching Monarchy. It is good to be king!
Domestic Advisor- With aqueducts increasing the available water supply, a few of our towns will now grow larger. Construction of a colosseum has begun in Ur, which will bring some much needed entertainment. Most of the population, in the Ottoman towns we destroyed, were killed. But those that survived and were captured, will fight in this new arena. If you weren't so set on Monarchy, I would recommend the Republic as a government, so that 'the people' could have more say in the direction our nation is heading in.
King Gudea- If we have a great need for increased commerce, or there are calls from the populace for a change, then I will consider it. Till then, I like having the final say!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s93-byz_builds_ToA.jpg

King Gudea- Caesar can count on our forces meeting in battle; it is only a matter of time.
10 A.D.
Domestic Advisor- The new town of 'Kish Range' has been founded, near the ruins of Izibia. We now have three towns built upon hills, on our western border. The military advisor has repeatedly requested hill towns in that area, cause he sees an eventual conflict with the Hittites. He tells me that the hills will provide a natural defense against any Hittite assault.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s99-kish_range_founded.jpg
Military Advisor- A chariot unit has finally made a name for itself, with a military leader emerging from it's ranks. Meskiaggasher led a counter-attack against an invading Babylon swordsman.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s100-military_leader.jpg
Military Advisor- He then made his way to Kish Range to gather a swordsman army. We now have three powerful armies to wield, my Liege. After we are done with Hammurabi, I think we should take Mursilis down a notch or two.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s101-leader_to_army.jpg
King Gudea- I like an advisor who thinks ahead. Draw me up some battle plans!:hammer:
Military Advisor- With pleasure, my King!
.
conquer_dude Feb 20, 2006, 06:09 PM Yay! More plans. :D
tupaclives Feb 22, 2006, 05:34 AM Excellent update Takeo! I love this story as much as 'Takeo takes on Deity'.

King Gudea- Good, we will soon have new 'recruits' for the arena.

Plague and pestilence strike Sumeria
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s106-Black_Death.jpg
Domestic Advisor- My King, a specter of a skull is hovering over the city of Kish. Also, the smell of death has caused a great gathering of vultures and they have begun to circle around the city.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s107-slkull.jpg
King Gudea- First, there are threats of a devastating earthquake and now a deadly plague? This is a hazardous world we live in.
Military Advisor- A Babylonian galley has sailed up the coast and has dropped off a unit of bowman, near the city of Isin. These bowman are famous for being equally good at attacking and defending, but our chariots make short work of them.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s108-bowman.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Sir, a number of other nations have gold piling up. May I suggest acquiring it from them, in trade for some of our knowledge?
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s109-trade_byz.jpg
King Gudea enjoyed having a scientific advantage over other nations, but he enjoyed adding to his treasury, even more.
90 A.D.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s113-black_death_at_ur.jpg
King Gudea had heard many reports about the plague in Kish, but did not think it could strike his home city. The king was quickly rushed to his partially-completed summer palace, located in Sumer.
King Gudea- How did this happen? Didn't we seal up Kish?
Domestic Advisor- We think a trading caravan slipped out, before Kish's city gates were blocked off. They unwittingly brought the plague to Ur.
King Gudea- Make sure both cities are sealed up, till this disease is completely gone!
Gudea then had his military advisor brought before him.
King Gudea- I have not heard word from the battlefront, in some time. This plague has caused disruption, hysteria, and worst of all death. I hope that you bring me good news!
Military Advisor- I have good news, Great One! A number of Babylonian cities have been destroyed, and we have virtually no losses on our side. We penetrated Babylonian territory, to within sight of the capital city of Babylon and have also seen evidence of their famed ivory.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s102a.jpg
King Gudea- Do you think Hammurabi has learned not to demand anything from us?
Military Advisor- If he hasn't, then he is hardheaded!
Military Advisor- The reason I was delayed in bringing this information to you, was because these plans were being drawn up.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/battle_plan_hitt.jpg
Military Advisor- We will send three battle groups into Hittite territory. Each group of Sumerian units will take out two cities, then all fully-healthy units will strike at the Hittite capital of Hattusas. Several settlers will also accompany our forces, and one will found a town near the Hittite incense.
King Gudea- Well done! Begin to pull our forces back and set them up to invade Hittite territory. It will begin, as soon as our military alliance is over with.

In the editor, under scenario properties is a disaster tab.
Just put a chech mark in the 'permit disaster' chech box
and then fill in all the properties. I actually got all the
properties and values out of Rhye's mod. So, any credit
should go to him, cause I wouldn't have known what
to enter.:)
conquer_dude Feb 24, 2006, 10:14 PM How do you put down plauges? You just have to wait for htem to end, right?
Ansar Feb 25, 2006, 08:19 AM Isnt the black plague supposed to be in the Middle Ages?
Takeo Feb 25, 2006, 08:27 AM Isnt the black plague supposed to be in the Middle Ages?
I think that is when it happened, not sure.
I just entered the same numbers that Rhye did in his mod. I did not now how it would work out, and did not test it. His mod is very popular and I noticed he had enabled plagues on it, also he made disease stronger in flood plains.
I just wanted to make the game somewhat harsher, and figured that plagues would help in that area.:)
The plagues can be set to occur several times and in a normal game it might have happend in the middle ages. But research has been slow and everyone is still in the ancient age.
conquer_dude Feb 25, 2006, 10:09 AM Yes black plauge was around 1100 I believe. Something like that.
Sima Qian Feb 25, 2006, 10:52 AM OT: If you're talking about the bubonic plague, that was closer to 1347 AD - 1350 AD, since I think it got spread to Europe from the Middle East and South Asia.
That screen full of alliances looks really scary to me. But it looks like they're not all friendly with each other, even the ones in alliances. Hittites allied with Byzantines, Byzantines allied with Egypt, Egypt allied with Rome, Rome allied with Babylon, and the Hittites are at war with Babylon. What a mess.
conquer_dude Feb 25, 2006, 11:08 AM That's whats fun. To watch the AI's fight each other like peas in a pot. :D

Takeo Mar 01, 2006, 04:59 PM 270 A.D.
Hammurabi has committed a grave error, in demanding wine from the Sumerian nation. While seeking a 'donation to the cause of world peace', Babylon has instead caused a war. The Babylonian empire has been beset by several nations, that King Gudea has formed into a military alliance. After years of war, Hammurabi's empire is in a shambles, with half of his mainland cities destroyed or captured. With Babylon now far from it's glory and unable to put up much of a fight, King Gudea has pulled his military forces back, to hopefully deal a fatal blow to a former ally.
Foreign Advisor- Supreme One, the alliance with the Hittites, Greeks and Persians, has come to an end. Mursilis was none to happy with our withdrawl and is curious about our forces roaming his border.
King Gudea- Give Mr. Mursilis this reason- "Our forces are attempting to capture the brigands, that have been robbing our trade caravans. Since you are doing nothing to ensure the safety of your Dye shipments to us, we will take it upon ourselves to capture or kill these bandits".
Foreign Advisor- I will inform him of our 'search for the bandits'.
King Gudea- It will soon be time to attack the Hittites. Are all military units in position?
Military Advisor- Yes, they are in position. Battle Group 1 has been divided and will invade from two directions.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s129-battle_group_1.jpg
Military Advisor- Battle Groups 2 & 3 are also in place, but group 3 is currently being blocked by the Ottomans. Osman has made peace with Persia and his forces are now heading towards Rome. So, that group may have to delay it's assault.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s131-battle_group_2_and_3.jpg
280 A.D.
With the military alliance against Babylon coming to an end, King Gudea decides Hammurabi has learned his lesson.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s127-peace_with_baba.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Hammurabi would not give up his knowledge on the Republic government. He did offer several towns located on a far-away island, but they would have been hard to protect. The town of Tell Wilaya is granted in the peace negotiations and is not out of our reach.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s130-tell_wilaya.jpg
King Gudea- You did very well! I do not wish to transport our military across the Great Ocean.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s128-ma_on_losses.jpg
King Gudea- I do not think our next war will go as smoothly!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s122-largest_nations.jpg
Foreign Advisor- At this time, the Hittite empire is No.1 in territory, cities, military power and population.
King Gudea- Let us knock them down a notch or two! Are our forces ready?
Military Advisor- We are ready, my King. But, I must remind you that our military is still weak when compared to the Hittites, despite our buildup.
King Gudea- Declare war and invade! Make sure to capture as many Hittite citizens as possible, for the colosseum.
Domestic Advisor- I need to mention, that there rumors of discontent in outlying towns, over the deaths of so many captives in our great arena.
King Gudea- Keep me apprised of the situation.
Foreign Advisor- Mursilis was in a very foul mood.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s133-mursilis.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Our ambassador has made a formal declaration of war. Unfortunately, he could not move very fast, was caught fleeing and was beheaded.
King Gudea- He will soon be avenged!
The Sumerian Sword Armies and chariot units rushed forward in earnest, eager for Hittite blood. The clash of military units and the clang of steel upon steel, were soon heard throughout the land.
280 to 310 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, we have destroyed two Hittite towns and captured a third. The town of Alalah was not burned down, cause it is located exactly where we would have built one. There is a barracks that we can make use of and something called a market, that were captured with the town. Battle Group 3 has still been delayed by Ottoman forces.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s135-raze_hatt,_katna.jpg
King Gudea- Make sure the population of Alalah does not rise up against you.
Domestic Advisor- Sir, a marketplace provides a central location for conducting trade, where citizens can offer goods and services, or seek them out. We must gain this knowledge, for you will gain tax revenue.
King Gudea- Once Mursilis is back on his heels, we will see if he offers up this knowledge about the marketplace.
290 A.D.
Military Advisor- The Hittite citizens in Alalah, were forced to work day and night, to erect walls for the city. Quite a few of them died in the process.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s146-force_build_walls.jpg
While King Gudea was listening to all the glowing reports from the military advisor, the foreign advisor ran into the throne room with urgent news.
Foreign Advisor- We have a problem, Great One! An Ottoman military unit has trespassed into our territory. They were kindly asked to leave our lands and they refused. Osman must have been looking for an oppurtunity, cause he has declared war.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s140-otto_declares_war.jpg
Military Advisor- The Ottoman forces, returning from fighting the Persians, have headed north towards Agade Hill.
King Gudea- It is ironic that Battle Group 3 was blocked from moving by these forces and now is in the vicinity to engage them.
300 A.D.
Military Advisor- There are 15 Ottoman swordsman units and 3 spearman units, advancing on Agade Hill.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s151-15_otto_swords.jpg
We have pulled back Battle Group 3 to defend Agade Hill; three Ottoman swordsman and one spearman unit were subsequently eliminated.
310 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, Ottoman military groups are still moving north and are now in range of our catapults. We lost two chariot groups, while taking out three Ottoman swordsman groups.

Also, I am not trying to go all out and win as quick as possible. Instead of taking everything into my hands, I'm doing a little reacting to whatever events come my way. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s168-aftermath.jpg
Military Advisor- My King, the Hittite town of Alaca Huyuk has been turned to ashes. There is now only one town between our forces and the Hittite capital.
King Gudea- The number of captives continues to grow. Maybe we should build a second colosseum in Sumer.
Domestic Advisor- There is ongoing unrest over all the foreign citizens forced to fight in the arena. There is also a rumor that one of your general's has taken a Hittite wife from among the captives.
King Gudea turned to the military advisor, with a look of unbelief on his face.
King Gudea- Is this true?
Military Advisor- Yes, it seems that General Naram and some of his men, have selected wives from the Hittite captives. Also, Naram has begun to voice an opinion about forcing the captives to become gladiators. He thinks the captives should be integrated into our society.
King Gudea- You tell him to shut his mouth and do his job. There will be no more taking wives from the captive population. If this Naram continues to speak out, he will be removed from his position!
Military Advisor- He will be informed, Great One.
360 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- We have received another demand from Hannibal. He declared war on us, once his demand had been thrown back in his face.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s170-carth_demand_con.jpg
King Gudea- This isn't good! We now have war on three fronts. Inform me as soon as Hannibal will talk peace.
Domestic Advisor- There are cries from Tell Wilaya, for us to send some defensive units to protect the town. It seems that Hittite forces have discovered the unprotected town and are bearing down on it.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s173-tell_wilaya_under_att.jpg
King Gudea- We will not be able to get there in time. We should hand control of the town over to another nation.
Foreign Advisor- Alexander would be happy to take it off our hands. I will contact him.
Before the Hittite forces can sack the town, the Greeks take control. With the two nations not being at war, the Hittite units turn away to find another target.

Foreign Advisor- Sir, the Ottomans are pleading with us to give peace a chance.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s176-osman_pleads.jpg
King Gudea- Well, it's not our children that are fading away and he was the stupid one that started this war. So, it's a big fat NO!
Military Advisor- My King, the town of Wilaya Knoll has come under attack by Hittite forces. An enkidu unit has fallen in it's defense.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s177-willaya_knoll_under_att.jpg
Military Advisor- The Ottomans have also scrounged up some more units and are moving against the town of Sumer Lake.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s178-sumer_lake_under_att.jpg
King Gudea- Osman is apparently ready to lose some more of his military!
Military Advisor- We have counter-attacked and lost two swordsman units and three chariot units. The Ottomans lost a similar amount of six units.
King Gudea- I guess he showed me, didn't he?
380 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, the Hittite attack on our western flank is growing larger. We have lost another enkidu and three chariot units there.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s179-hitti_attack.jpg
King Gudea- Begin to move forces in that direction, especially a couple of swordsman armies. Make peace with Osman, immediately!

Mursilis has gathered together a large number of military units and is advancing them against the western edge of the Sumerian empire. With most of the Sumerian military having been staged on the southern and eastern fronts, the Hittites have come upon a lightly defended area. With Osman accepting peace, most of the Sumerian forces have now been redirected towards the Hittite threat.
Military Advisor- Great One, a small formation of Hittite units has moved upon a hill northeast of Willaya Knoll. Before they could form up and stage an attack, one of our chariot groups scored a victory and another military leader has come forth.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s185-lugalzaggesi.jpg
Military Advisor- Etana and his swordsman army are within view of the town, but I fear they will not make it there in time.
400 A.D.
Military Advisor- The defenses of Willaya Knoll did not hold. We had too few military units there and our reinforcements did not arrrive in time. Also, the Hittites were aided by the presence of a great military leader.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s186-willaya_knoll_destroyed.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s189-mitt_leader_muwatallis.jpg
King Gudea- Is it possible to assassinate this Hittite leader?
Military Advisor- No, he has moved west with spearman escort and their large formation of units is between him and us. Most of our swordsman armies are now arriving in the area, as are many other units. Enmerkar is on the southern border, with his army, harassing Hittite towns down there.
Domestic Advisor- My King, over 28 thousand Sumerian citizens were lost at Willaya Knoll. Should we evacuate any citizens in nearby towns?
King Gudea- No, we don't have time to get them out. Time should be spent building up defenses and constructing catapults.
410 A.D.
Military Advisor- Lagash Harbor is safe, for the time being. The huge Hittite formation has moved south, not east as expected. This will give us time to move more military units into the area.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s190-hit_att_410ad.jpg
King Gudea- Do we have a chance of defeating this attack?
Military Advisor- Our chances have improved with this unexpected move to the south. We will now have time to move a considerable number of units into the area.
420 A.D.
Military Advisor- The Hittite forces seem to be heading towards the town of Kuara Grassland.
Gilgamesh rushes into the throne room, all dirty and harried. King Gudea does not recognize him in the worn and dirty peasant disguise, he is wearing.
Gilgamesh- My King, I have just returned from spying on the Hittite forces. They are headed south towards Kuara Grassland. If they leave the protection of the hills and enter the fields around the town, their forces will be out in the open. Also, the citizens of the town have worked day after day and finally finished a protective wall.
King Gudea- Good work, my friend! Move all available forces into the town and have them fortify there.
430 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, the Hittite formation has split in two and entered the fields outside of Kuara Grassland. They are now in the open!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s194-hitt_att_430ad.jpg
King Gudea- Good! Let them flail against the walls, until their strength is spent, then sally forth and wipe them out!
Military Advisor- Here is a list of our forces that are fortified inside the town.

440 A.D.
Decisive Battle
The Battle of Kuara Grassland circa.443 A.D.
After forming into three groups, the largest to the northwest, the Hittites began to move towards the town. The Hittite general gave the signal for an all-out attack and a loud shout came from all the swordsman. The ranks of Hittite swordsman rushed forward only to see several Sumerian sword armies manning some newly-constructed walls. Ladders are placed, then climbed and the sides engage. The fighting is fierce, with many men dying on both sides. Hittite catapults help to breach the northern wall and a horde of Hittite swordsman attempt to rush thru. Meshiaggasher and his swordsman army meet the invaders head on and manage to temporarily hold the breach, but end up dying to the last man. Another swordsman army, led by Lugalzaggesi the 2nd, rushes over from the western side of town. The Hittite incursion is quickly repelled and the breach is sealed. The valiant effort has greatly reduced Lugalzaggesi the 2nd and his sword army, in strength and in numbers. The attack soon falters and the few surviving Hittite swordsman retreat from the town.
Military Advisor- Supreme One, Kuara Grassland did not fall to the enemy! Great numbers of Hittite swordsman fell in the assault, to the sharp weapons of our swordsman armies. Sadly, Meshiaggasher and his army gave their lives attempting to seal a breach in the town walls.

Military Advisor- Here is a list of defenders that survived the battle.
(Note the battered condition of the armies)
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s200-total_for_me.jpg
King Gudea- We will make them pay for this! Take all chariots in the town and run down any Hittite survivors. Do not let them escape!
Sumerian chariot units sally forth to clear the area of Hittite scum. The counter-attack brings a stolen catapult back into the fold.

Domestic Advisor- Supreme One, the town of Incense Rapids has been founded in former Hittite territory. We are now supplying the Sumerian populace with 3 local luxuries. The military advisor informs me that fortifications are being built around the incense, to protect from Hittite attack.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s187-incense_rapids.jpg
King Gudea- Procuring the incense was one of our goals in this war. The next goal to meet is burning the Hittite capital to the ground!
Gilgamesh, freshly changed from his spying clothes, enters the throne room and bids Gudea to come out onto the palace balcony. Looking down from there, the two witness several of the newest swordsman units, marching off towards Hittite territory.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/parade.jpg
Gilgamesh- No other city in your empire trains swordsman as quickly as Ur does. The barracks here is very efficient.
King Gudea- I toured the barracks recently and was very impressed. I am very happy with our military, all except for this General Naram. If he doesn't fall in line, he himself will be fighting in the arena.
As the newly-trained swordsman units marched into the distance, King Gudea and Gilgamesh reenter the throne room and are greeted by the science advisor.
Science Advisor- My King, the wisemen of Egypt have entered a new level of enlightenment, due to their Great Library. They are studying things that are way beyond us. We could get one step closer to them by trading for the knowledge of Currency.
(Egypt enters the medieval age)
King Gudea- Good, get with the foreign advisor and tell him to complete the deal.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s195-const_for_currency.jpg
Foreign Advisor- We have acquired Currency, Great One. The marketplaces the domestic advisor has been begging for, can now be built. I have some even better news- Hannibal is finally willing to talk and has agreed to peace.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s205-peace_carth.jpg
King Gudea- Now we can concentrate on the Hittites and start to pound on them!
450 A.D.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s209-hang_gard_arab.jpg
Domestic Advisor- Arabia has erected a spectacular garden sanctuary, containing all manner of trees, vines and flowering plants. The massive garden dominates the center of Medina.
Military Advisor- Sir, a skirmish outside of Kuara Grassland has produced yet another great military leader.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s210-Etana_2.jpg
King Gudea- With all the sword armies we now have, if we don't smash Mursilis into the dust, then we are a sorry bunch!
470 A.D.
With all the defenders of Kuara Grassland now healed, they begin to march towards the nearest Hittite towns. Any wandering Hittite forces are bypassed in favor of attacking settlements.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s214-forces_head_out.jpg
490 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- The Carthaginian forces that were in our territory had been heading back east, but have now turned to the south. The have redirected themselves towards another threat- the Ottomans.

510 A.D.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s222-monarchy.jpg
Science Advisor- We have gained knowledge of Monarchy and you may now truly by King! Before we can move forward with further research, we must also know the secrets of the Republic government. You've said this government type will not be utilized, but it does lead to more advanced knowledge. What shall we do?
King Gudea- I do not like being behind Cleopatra in knowledge, so you had better get to work and garner this useless knowledge.
Science Advisor- This will be a long and expensive process, unless you are willing to consider an alternative.
King Gudea- Speak up. This had better be good!
Science Advisor- One of our sage's had a fantastic dream, after smoking something he found on a hillside near here. He dreamed of this great leader on another world and he ruled an empire, much like your own. This leader, who was named Tupacius, had a crafty way of gaining advanced knowledge. He utilized a vast network of diplomats and spies, that would secretly procure scientific knowledge from neighboring empires.
King Gudea- This sounds interesting! What do I need to do?
Foreign Advisor- Sir, I have taken the liberty of contacting your diplomats in Babylon. They say all the Babylonian officials are constantly distracted by their war with the Hittites. They may be able to slip in and obtain the knowledge of The Republic. All they need is around 800 gold to bribe a guard to look the other way.
King Gudea- I'm convinced. Do it!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s224-steal_success.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s225a-republic.jpg
Foreign Advisor- We have succeeded! I bet this secret operation was a lot cheaper than having to research that knowledge.
King Gudea- I'm glad it worked. I wouldn't want to cause an incident and trigger a war, at least not yet.
Science Advisor- I think we should direct our studies towards the knowledge of Feudalism. It just may lead to a way of quickly erecting a support-free barracks, in any city we conquer or build.
King Gudea- Wow! That sounds great. Well, what are you waiting for, get to it.

Takeo Mar 21, 2006, 05:33 PM I thought that the castle they were gathered around was from a AoE screen shot. Am I wrong?
That is a palace art file I found in vanilla civ. There is an palace for each of the cultures. In [civ3], in the city screen, you could click on an eyeball in the upper right-hand corner to get a birds eye view of the city. I think that is what the art is intended for. In looking at that picture again, I noticed a goof I made. The swordsman were downsized a bit to look more realistic with the palace, but then I forgot to downsize the chariots and enkidu. The enkidu look about 8-feet tall, compared to the swordsman.
Ansar Mar 21, 2006, 06:17 PM The swordsmen look like the Man-At-Arms from Age of Empires 2, or Age of Conquerors.:D

yes, once I had a picture of the palace, the normal stance of the swordsman would have been walking away from the entrance and if they are walking to the southwest, then the sword is kinda hidden. But I wanted it to be as if they were parading in across the front of it with the sword showing. I mirrored/reversed the swordsman picture I had, before their ranks were put down.

Domestic Advisor- Great One, with our arrival into a new era, it is my duty to inform you of the status of your empire.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s227-dashboard.jpg
King Gudea- It is time to execute a change of government to Monarchy. You may set things in motion.
Military Advisor- Sir, in our counter-attack on the Hittites, we have run into armored defenders utilizing a long heavy-duty spear. Their scientists must have discovered some new science knowledge.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s232-hitt_pike.jpg
King Gudea- Are we making any headway against these new defenders?
Military Advisor- Despite these new pikeman, we are making good progress in the west.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s213-hitt_area_west.jpg
Military Advisor- We have had an unfortunate incident recently. General Naram and some of his supporters fled their posts. A large number of chariot units were left without leadership and several were destroyed in a recent battle.
King Gudea- When he is captured, I want him executed on the spot. Then bring me his head!
520 A.D.
Domestic Advisor- Great One, we are experiancing massive unrest in the empire, due to you having sanctioned a revolution. All commerce and production have come to a standstill. Once we are done restructuring the government, the citizens should calm down and embrace your new rules.
King Gudea- I hope we can get things organized quickly and squash this anarchy!
530 A.D.
Domestic Advisor- Supreme One, I now pronounce you Monarch of Sumeria! Order has been restored, taxes are being collected, military production is in full swing and the scientists are back to researching.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s230-monarchy_in.jpg
King Gudea- Thank you! It is good to be King!
Domestic Advisor- We do need to found some more towns. The upkeep for our military is getting very expensive.
Military Advisor- Sir, I have some good news and some bad news.
King Gudea- Give me the bad first.
Military Advisor- During our brief period of anarchy, General Naram took advantage of the confusion. He and his men destroyed all progress on a colosseum in Sumer. Also, a large number of gladiators and Hittite captives were broke out of their cells and all have disappeared into the countryside.
King Gudea- This man is becoming a thorn in my side. I want him taken care of and soon! Now, give me the good news.
Military Advisor- We have made significant progress against Mursilis. A number of his core cities, including his capital, have been destroyed. The map below does not show two other cities razed--Emar and Ankuwa.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s214-hitt_area_east.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/capital.jpg
King Gudea- That IS good news! I take it that Mursilis escaped to fight another day?
Military Advisor- Yes, he has moved his headquarters south to Tyrana. It is a large city on the coast, where his minions built the Great Lighthouse.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s241-tyrana_new_capital.jpg
King Gudea- Begin to move settlers in and take possesion of the Hittite Dyes.
King Gudea thought long and hard about the delay in research that the change in government, and subsequent anarchy, had caused. He wondered whether he should wait for a scientific breakthru or risk stealing the knowledge of Feudalism from Egypt. He made his decision, then called in the science and foreign advisors.
King Gudea- I do not wish to wait for Feudalism to be researched. Would it be cheaper to steal it from Cleopatra?
Foreign Advisor- I think that it would be cheaper. Would you like me to contact our diplomats in Thebes?
King Gudea- Yes, but tell them to be careful. I do not wish to deplete the treasury and get nothing for it.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s235-safe_steal_1064g.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s238-feudalism.jpg
King Gudea- Well done!
Science Advisor- Feudalism will allow us to upgrade our enkidu to the more powerful pikeman. Here is a drawing of the pikeman, stolen from Cleopatra's archives.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/armored_pikeman.jpg
Science Advisor- Also, our swordsman may now don an iron covering called armor.
King Gudea- I don't want any more slow-moving offensive footman, and there will be no upgrades to our existing swordsman. Does any of this information show how to upgrade our chariots?
Science Advisor- Upon studying all this new knowledge, one of my colleagues had a crazy idea about armored horseman. We will have to look into this, in the near future. For the time being we can study the works of Sun Tzu, who was a great general and tactician from the ancient past.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s239-Ur_building_sun_tzu.jpg
Science Advisor- To fully realize our quest to have armored horseman, we need to discover the secrets of Monotheism.
King Gudea- Your funding will be increased. We will need these special horseman in order to finish off Mursilis.

Spies Like Us
Foreign Advisor- Sir, I have heard from the domestic advisor that work, on our new spy training center, has been finished. We may now conduct covert missions more easily and not risk the lives of our valuable ambassadors & diplomats. A number of spies were already finishing training, before the finishing touches were even put on the new center.
King Gudea- Valuable ambassadors, my foot! They're a shekel a dozen, in my book. Just kiddin' ya! How long will it take to embed these spies?
Foreign Advisor- Times will differ, according to where they have been sent and the diplomatic climate in that region.
King Gudea- Inform me when you have some results.
A few weeks later, the foreign advisor entered the throne room to report that a couple of spies had entrenched themselves in nearby nations.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s244-agent_roime.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Great One, I have received word from two spies that have hidden themselves in Egypt and Rome. Several other agents have not been heard from, including one sent to the Hittites. We fear they were caught and executed.
King Gudea- Well, what have the succesful spies learned?
Military Advisor- The news we received out of Rome is quite disturbing. For the time being, we should attempt to stay on good terms with Caesar.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s245-154_legions.jpg
King Gudea- Yes, that is quite intimidating! On what target are these legions currently focused?
Foreign Advisor- Caesar is at war with the Zulu and the Byzantines. The land between Roman and Zulu territory is filled with razed settlements.

The Skull of Death makes an unwelcome appearance
With the population of Ur approaching 600,000 people, the crowded conditions have become a bit unsanitary. Filth and waste have caused disease to rear it's ugly head and a virulent plague has struck the Sumerian capital.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s246-black_dea.jpg
King Gudea and his aides are quickly spirited away to the summer palace, in Sumer. Before they are able to settle in and get to business as usual, the Black pestilence shuts the city down.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s257-black_death_sumer.jpg
King Gudea and his entourage are whisked off again, this time to the city of Akshak. Within a few months, over 200,000 Sumerian citizens die a horrible death.
Domestic Advisor- The plague is starting to subside now, Sir. Before long we should be able to return to the palace.
In the west, a swordsman army is escorting a large group of captives back to Sumerian territory. The captives are mostly Hittites, taken prisoner in the war, but a few are from other nations.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s248-captive_train1.jpg
600 A.D.
King Gudea- We have exceeded our goals in this conflict with the Hittites. It is time to contact Mursilis and settle for peace. We shall return to finish him off, when our military is upgraded.
Foreign Advisor- Mursilis responded somewhat arrogantly, but he did give up a small town.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s251-peace_w_hitt.jpg
Military Advisor- Master, I have all the military casualties compiled, from this war with the Hittites. We had much harsher losses, than in any previous war.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Military_losses-hitt.jpg
King Gudea- If we can gain some kind of an advantage with superior weapons and training, maybe we can cut down on these horrendous losses.
Domestic Advisor- We have founded a new town, just north of the former Hittite capital, or should I say the ruins of that capital. We are now supplying the populace with four luxuries.

Science advancement begins to accelerate
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s255-monotheism.jpg
Science Advisor- If you are still hot for having armored horseman, then we should direct our research towards Chivalry. We will then be able to upgrade the chariots to knights, which is how we are now referring to your 'armored horseman'.
King Gudea- The anticipation is killing me! Please, please research your butts off!
(Carthage, Arabia and Rome are in the Medieval Age)
Military Advisor- Sir, work has been completed on the Military Academy. We can now start to develop armies on our own, and not have to wait for a military great leader to make an appearance.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s256-military_academy.jpg

With the first war against the Hittites coming to a close, King Gudea has set his sight on Hammurabi's territory and the ivory located there. Sumerian military forces, along with several settler groups, have moved into position around Babylon's few cities.
Domestic Advisor- Excellency, I have some concerns about the forthcoming strike against Babylon.
King Gudea- I've already heard it from the trade advisor. We WILL have ivory in the trade network, as soon as possible.
Domestic Advisor- That's all well and good, but my concern is about the Pyramids. Instead of burning Babylon to the ground and demolishing this Great Wonder, maybe we could capture the city and utilize the fantastic powers of the Pyramids.
King Gudea- That sounds like a good idea. I have heard rumors, about the population of the Babylonians growing much faster than ours, and that it had something to do with the Pyramids. The military will be given orders to capture Babylon. Gilgamesh, I am sending you to oversee this and make sure this command is carried out.
Gilgamesh- It will be done, my King.
Foreign Advisor- Great One, a spy has infiltrated Babylonian security.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s259-agent_caught_arabvia.jpg
Military Advisor- The spy has informed me that Hammurabi's forces are very weak, here on the mainland. Most of his cities and military are on an island to the west.
King Gudea- The time has come to declare war!
Foreign Advisor- The embassy in Babylon has been evacuated and the diplomats have left a sealed letter of declaration, for Hammurabi.
King Gudea- I hope he is not a coward and retreats to his island sanctuary. We need to show what happens to those who demand from Sumeria.

Gilgamesh-Legendary Hero of Sumeria
Military Advisor- After the destruction of Nina, two swordsman armies and various chariot & sword units have attacked Babylon. Part of the city walls were knocked down during the battle, but the Babylonians turned the attack away. Then Gilgamesh exploded into action, charged thru the broken wall and single-handedly took out the last remaining bowman unit. He is a hero, my King!

Days later, after resistance in Babylon had been put down, Gilgamesh returned to Ur. A vast week-long feast and celebration were held in his honor. The tale of the epic hero spread throughout the Sumerian empire.
Domestic Advisor- Sire, the level of production and commerce in our cities has increased dramatically, due to word being spread about Gilgamesh and his victory. All Sumerian laborers are happily working non-stop thru the day, without a break.
King Gudea- I wish my father were here to see his people in this new age of their history.

Science Advisor- We have been working closely with the military advisor and he has all the information he needs to start upgrading.
Military Advisor- It will be very soon, my King. The armorer's are working night and day on the upgrades and the chariots are being used as fuel for the forges.

Sumerian knights to follow the code of Sun Tzu
Domestic Advisor- The people have just dedicated a large monument to Sun Tzu, and now that his teachings have been studied & analyzed, the original ancient scrolls have been sealed inside it.

Military Advisor- Great One, we have upgraded a vast number of chariots to knights, but the treasury is just about drained.
King Gudea- With all the people working diligently, as they are now, the gold will be replenished very quickly.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s272-upgrade_chariots.jpg
Trade Advisor- The Sumerian populace is now being supplied with an unprecedented five luxuries. They are happier than ever before.
King Gudea- I have heard much about this Babylonian Ivory. Have some brought to me, as soon as it arrives.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s271-ivory_waterway.jpg
700 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Supreme One, diplomats have arrived from Carthage and Hannibal is demanding we share our ivory with him, or else.
King Gudea- Well, he knows where he can stick that demand. If he decides to get hostile with us, then we'll just have to bribe Caesar to use his horde of legionaries to help us.

Foreign Advisor- We have received word that Hannibal has declared war on us. I was getting ready to contact Caesar for an alliance, when this happened.

carmen510 Apr 02, 2006, 01:47 PM Horrors! And isnt it funny Carthage and Rome side together when Carthage was eliminated by Rome?
FascistRepublic Apr 02, 2006, 02:23 PM Here goes nothing.

General Naram and his followers have been located, just to the nw of Babylon.

Mirc Apr 05, 2006, 02:37 PM Fantastic updates!
I didn't post these days too much in this forum and I missed a lot!
conquer_dude Apr 05, 2006, 05:47 PM Indeed you did, Mirc.;) When do you plan to update your story?
Hm... I don't understand that spoiler... Who took over Berlin, and is down to one city??
Takeo Apr 06, 2006, 02:05 PM Hm... I don't understand that spoiler... Who took over Berlin, and is down to one city??
Nobody captured Berlin. General Naram, Sumerian citizens that disapprove of the gladiatorial games and the gladiators he sprung from imprisonment have formed their own city, out in the wilderness. They just recently formed the town and the cultural borders haven't spread yet.
andis-1 Apr 06, 2006, 02:15 PM update anytime soon?
Takeo Apr 09, 2006, 04:38 PM I am going to update this evening and had some comments about the update and any further updates in the medieval age. I apparently did not finish everything I wanted to on the mod before starting the game. Did not notice this until getting to the medieval age. What I wanted to do was make all the AI units about half price shields and keep my units at normal price. To accomplish this I was going to use for example-the Rider as my knight. I changed the stats of the rider to knight stats and price and took away the golden age(which is a moot point since gilgamesh already started it). I put off until later changing the name of the rider to knight. Forgot to do it and started the game up. So, you might read about a character referring to a knight, but in a picture a city is training a rider. Sorry if this causes any confusion.:( All the above also goes for the swiss mercenary as my pikeman, the musketeer as my musketman, cossack as my cavalry and the panzer as my tank.

The Carthaginians and Romans, which are both located directly east of Sumeria, have declared war. Caesar and Hannibal had each sent a delegation demanding that they be supplied with ivory for free. King Gudea has denied their 'request', which has caused the hostilities.
King Gudea- Move all of our knights and several swordsman armies over to confront Carthage. Attacking the Hittites again will have to be delayed.
Military Advisor- The military moves will taken care of immediately. After the Roman declaration of war, an elite legionary unit had approached Erech Forest and was threatening some workers there. One of our elite swordsman groups confronted it and was defeated. We soon found out why the lone unit was so proficient in battle. It was being led by the Great Leader Claudius. A newly-trained knight was sent out, finished off the legionary unit and executed Claudius.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s277-claudius.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Sir, we have heard from several more spies.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s275-agent_in_carthage.jpg
Foreign Advisor- Unfortunately, the spy we sent to Persia has been caught and Xerxes is obviously very displeased.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s295-persia_declares_war.jpg
King Gudea- As if we didn't have enough going on.
Military Advisor- This is nothing to worry about, my King. The Persians are weak and should be held off easily. On the other hand, our spy in Carthage says our armies are of only average strength when compared to Hannibal's.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s276-carthage_military.jpg
King Gudea- Maybe Carthage will be willing to talk peace, once we raze a few of their cities. Then, maybe we can turn them against Rome. Hannibal has been our 'shield' in the past and surely he can be bribed to do it again.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s278-_theology.jpg
Science Advisor- I suggest we learn a way of passing on our knowledge to future generations, by developing an education system. Hopefully Cleopatra will then trade her ability to take newly discovered concepts and inventing ways to put them to use, for this new education system.
King Gudea- Yes, I have heard of a Leonardo character that Cleopatra is working with. She is erecting some kind of workshop for him, in which he can build and design his odd devices. Seems interesting; I will have your funding increased.
Before King Gudea had finished speaking, the military advisor hurried into the throne room with a big smile on his face. As the science advisor left the room, the news that King Gudea had waited so long for was revealed.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s283a-ma_speaks.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s283-gladiators.jpg
King Gudea- Naram must be hiding somewhere in the west. Find him!
720 A.D.
Military Advisor- The Military Academy has finished training it's first army.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s281-akshak_builds_army.jpg
King Gudea- Good! Have it outfitted with some veteran knights and send it towards Carthage.
730 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Great One, we have received a message from General Naram. They no longer wish to be known as Sumerians and are calling themselves Germans. He and his followers have founded a town, just northwest of Babylon.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s279-naram_found.jpg
King Gudea- I want those traitors killed, as soon as possible!
Military Advisor- Several knight units are moving in that direction, even as we speak.
740 A.D.
Science Advisor- Sir, I have great news! My good friend and colleague, Ali Ibn Rabban, has made a major breakthrough and has developed the new Education system all on his own. Now that the common man can be educated, the populace is treating Ali as a hero. The citizens of Ur have begun construction on a university and are dedicating it to Ali. A university is where a person can go to learn and study a wide array of subjects, and become more educated.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s296-education.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s298-science_leader.jpg
King Gudea- When time permits, bring him before me. I would very much like to speak with him.
Foreign Advisor- I have attempted to trade our knowledge of Education for Cleopatra's knowledge of Invention, but she would have nothing to do with it.
King Gudea- Oh well. We will have to research it on our own.
Military Advisor- Master, our forces have moved into Carthaginian territory and will soon attack Leptis Minor, lol and Riza.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s284-invasion_carth.jpg
King Gudea- I will have the domestic advisor look at our current maps and decide on some new town locations. Destroy those settlements you mentioned and then hold the area.
Military Advisor- Your wish is my command.

Mirc Apr 11, 2006, 05:26 AM Yes, he was probably laughing of the Easter Egg.
Takeo Apr 11, 2006, 03:00 PM I did think the name of the city was LOL and stood for laughing out loud.

Sumerian knights have galloped into Carthaginian territory and burned three cities to the ground. On orders from King Gudea, the assault forces are pushing no further and are to protect settlers that will be moving into the area. King Gudea is also hoping that upon seeing the smoke rising from his former cities, Hannibal will offer peace.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s299-carthage_cities_destroyed.jpg
Military Advisor- Sir, our forces have spread out to keep Carthage from retaking the open area.
King Gudea- The domestic advisor has drawn up plans for 3 new towns in that area and she is making arrangements to get the settler groups there as soon as possible.
752 A.D.
Military Advisor- Great One, a new order of knights has been founded and is devoted to eradicating your enemies.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s297-kinights_templar.jpg
Military Advisor- These crusaders are an odd lot! They do not use horses, will only fight on foot and have a single-minded purpose of fighting one enemy at a time, until that enemy is completely destroyed.
King Gudea- We have so many enemies for them to pick from. Who will they destroy first?
Military Advisor- The crusaders have already made a vow to wipe Babylon off the map. Hammurabi is currently holed up on an island to the west and they are having a fleet of ships built, to carry them there. Until then, they will continue to train for battle.
King Gudea- See that they get access to a couple of port towns, to build their ships in.
754 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Master, we have heard from Carthage and Hannibal is willing to back off on hostilities.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s303-peace_w_carth.jpg
King Gudea- We just destroyed three of his cities and he has the gall to refer to me as a mouse? Well that !@%#$@!
755 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- My King, one of our spies has been caught in Tyrana and Mursilis is pissed!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s304-hitt_declare_war.jpg
King Gudea- What's up with these incompetant spies?
Foreign Advisor- Maybe their training was too short. I'll have someone at the Intelligence Ministry look into it.
King Gudea- Contact all the nations to the south and bribe them to attack Mursilis.
Foreign Advisor- We have found some allies, my King. Egypt and Greece have sided with us; Persia and Arabia are already at war with the Hittites. Cleopatra asked for quite a bit from us, but with Alexander we came out ahead.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s307-egypt_allies_vs_hitt.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s308-greece_ally_vs_hitt.jpg
Foreign Advisor- I took it upon myself to also contact Hannibal, just to see what he would want, to turn against Caesar.
King Gudea- He's probably asking for everything we have, isn't he?
Foreign Advisor- You could almost say that. To ally with us against Caesar, he wants: ivory, our knowledge of Monotheism & Engineering, our entire world map and 1150 gold.
King Gudea- He's crazy, no way! If Caesar's forces ever make it here, we will deal with them on our own.
760 A.D.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s309-fa_talks.jpg
770 A.D.
After inspecting and approving of the new headquarters for the Knights Templar, King Gudea exited the building, ready to head back to Ur. He and his bodyguards heard a commotion and turned to see the military advisor rushing up on a dilapidated chariot.
King Gudea- I see that not all of those have been turned into firewood yet.
Military Advisor- Yes, we still have a number of them to upgrade.
King Gudea- Why are you in such a hurry?
Military Advisor- I have news about the Hittite army. They have somehow acquired some elephants; some very large specimens. These elephants have been outfitted with armor and they are being used to trample our forces.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s316-war_elphant.jpg
King Gudea- Just have our slower-moving units stay out of the way.
Military Advisor- We are doing that, my King. Our knights can run circles around them. It's just that these war elephants can take a lot of damage, before going down.
King Gudea- Before I left to come here, the foreign advisor informed me that a spy was finally able to slip into Tyrana. Third times a charm, I guess.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s310-agent_in_tyrana.jpg
King Gudea- Do you have news of the Hittite army totals?
Military Advisor- Yes, their army is very weak when compared to ours.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s311-hitt_army.jpg
Military Advisor- With Mursilis fighting every nation near him, his forces are somewhat meager. Also, almost half of his military units are located on an island in the central sea.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s311a-hitt_isle.jpg
King Gudea- Maybe we can kick him off the continent, the way we did Hammurabi.
Military Advisor- With half the world against him, he doesn't stand a chance.
780 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Supreme One, the Romans have made peace with their adversaries in the east. Caesar is currently at war with the Hittites and us. His forces will soon be coming this way.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s315-rome_zulu_peace.jpg
King Gudea- Is it possible for a spy to reveal the location of enemy military units?
Military Advisor- It can be done, but it will be very expensive.
King Gudea- Do it! I want to know where Caesar's military is and how long till they reach us.
conquer_dude Apr 14, 2006, 05:31 PM oooooo. Ahhhhhhhh.

Military Advisor- Master, our spy in rome has come thru for us and acquired maps showing military unit locations. It did cost a pretty gold piece though.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s324-steal_plans.jpg
King Gudea- If we know the locations of all those numerous legionaries, then it is worth every gold piece.
Military Advisor- Here are the forces Caesar was using against Shaka. There are well over a 100 military units in this picture.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s325-rome_troops_east.jpg
Military Advisor- There are also a few units that have entered Hannibal's territory and are on their way here.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s326-rome_west.jpg
King Gudea calmly sat down on his throne, rolling this information over and over in his mind. He sat there for a long while saying nothing, with a smug smile on his face.
Military Advisor- You do not seem very concerned about this, my King. Need I remind you that our forces are weak when compared with Caesar's.
King Gudea- I am well aware of our situation, but it will take a long time for the bulk of those Roman forces to get here. Let them waste their time trudging half-way across the world.
790 A.D.
As Sumerian forces approach the traitor-filled city, a number of gladiators spill out of Berlin. The end of General Naram and his supporters is close at hand.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s318-glads_come_out.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s317-invention.jpg
Ali Ibn Rabban- I have looked over all this knowledge on inventing and it is very intriguing. We may be able to construct an inventor's workshop, like the one that Cleopatra is having built.
King Gudea- Get with the domestic advisor and she will have one of our cities start on it.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s320-leo's_in_ur.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s317a-sa_talks.jpg
King Gudea- Filling the treasury with more gold is always a good thing. And before I fund any research into a...what did you say? Gunpowder? You will need to explain to me exactly what it is. By the way, what's with the funky hat? (Gudea attempts to hide a chuckle)
Science Advisor- It helps me to think better. You should try it.
King Gudea- Nice try, but I think I'll wear my crown.

Science Advisor- We should study Astronomy next, to enable us to use the stars for navigation. With this new ability, the crusader fleet will be able to safely sail across the sea.
King Gudea- So, we will now be able to go anywhere?
Science Advisor- Our ships should still avoid the deep ocean and stick to any established sea lanes.
750 to 900 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, we have a few agents that have infiltrated other nations and there are also a couple that have been caught.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s306-agent_in_persia.jpg
Foreign Advisor- We are now on very poor terms with Arabia and even worse with the Zulu. Shaka decided to declare war when he caught our spy. Not too long after that, another spy did make it thru the battle lines successfully. The Byzantines were willing to help out with Shaka, for a small bribe. Once this alliance ends, a spy will be sent their way also.
King Gudea- When we have spies in Byzantium and Arabia, then we will no longer have to worry about accidentally triggering a war. We will then be receiving secret information on every nation in the world!
Foreign Advisor- I have here a list of recent wars and alliances that you should be made aware of. You will notice that the smallest nation in the world, the Ottomans, is involved in all four.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/s319-egypt_carth_vs_otto.jpg
King Gudea- With only 6 cities left, it looks like Osman might fall by the wayside. Oh well, that's just too bad!
