View Full Version : Invitation to Duplicate Game for Comparative Study

I recently completed a game with the following full settings:
Frederick of Germany
Prince Difficulty
Terra Huge World Size
Temperate Climate, Medium Sea Level
Ancient Starting Era
Marathon Game Speed

All other settings were default "Play Now!" settings.

The attached game is the same one but starting at 4000BC before any moves were made to allow people here to play it from scratch. I've found the game setup to be one of the more challenging and interesting setups I've seen. Once you explore and see where you're at and get enough techs to see where the key early resources are, the game is really wide open in terms of how the game proceeds. (some setups more or less dictate your course).

For anyone interested in a game with the above settings, I ask people to give it a try. What I am hoping for is for enough people to play it far (if not necessarily to the end) and report back their experiences and summaries. My friend and I used to do this (playing duplicate games) as it allows us to discuss a shared experience so if anyone wants to take me up on this, please at least give it a try!

Then I hope we could discuss our different approaches and kind of share in the gaming experience. I'd be especially interested in seeing the very different ways this initial setup can develop into the late game.

Any takers?
(Note: Please avoid posting any "spoilers" without notice as some may want to experience the game from scratch with no prior knowledge).

I'd be interested... but the only thing that scares me is the fact it's a huge terra map on marathon with lots of civs. Did the game take several weeks to play?:mischief:

It wouldn't have to be far into the game before the slowdown made it very time-consuming. :(

If you have a smaller/quicker map to play I'd consider.;)

I like the concept Polypheus, I might give it a try this weekend.

Great idea, but marathon and huge is too much time for me. If you play a standard epic some time soon, I would love to duplicate it, since I already finished GOTM and Prince is exactly the difficulty I am trying to get better at.

If you haven't already, you might pop over into the GOTM forums. Same thing basically, but the settings are all given to us by the GOTM staff here. I, like many others, probably will never play a huge/marathon game.

Well Marathon don't scare me none. ;)

I do, however, have a question...

I've found the game setup to be one of the more challenging and interesting setups I've seen.
May I ask why?

Honestly, I don't really see anything all that "challenging and interesting." Other than Frederick, which I happen to enjoy playing, which is why I've already started this and am up to 1000BC or so.

So, what am I missing about the setup?

ps I'm not a huge fan of the GOTM. Mostly because they tend to be modded games. I much prefer standard settings. (Someone's going to correct me now...)

No, they do mod a few things, you're right. In the C4 games so far though, they are mainly just moving things around, like huts/resources. Not like C3, where gameplay rules were altered to balance the different versions. They seem pretty standard to me, and I don't play any modded games on my own.

Huh... maybe I'll try one. Thanks for the info.

At the time, it seemed interesting because you have a lot of choices in where to expand. It was a game which seemed more "wide-open" in terms of different choices players could make. But is it particularly challenging? Well I guess if you mastered Prince or play above Prince usually, then it probably isn't that challenging.

Anyway, how far did you get in the game and how is it going? I'd be very interested to hear from you how it went. (Post spoiler warnings if giving out too much detail however)
