View Full Version : 10 Turns Left in 1830?

I recently finished a scenario in which the initial game speed was set to Normal (i.e., "Normal" was what I had selected when I created the .wbs file and started working on the scenario). When I went to play it, however, I set the game speed to Epic. I thought nothing of it; after all, the initial difficulty was set to Noble, but I decided to play it on Warlord the first time through. Unless I'm doing really well for a Noble game, the difficulty level setting is working fine.

But at some point in the mid-1700s the "XX Turns Left!" popped up, and now it says I have 10 turns left in 1830. It is not merely the numbers that are off; the current level of technology of every civ makes it obvious that too few turns have been alloted. My guess is that something has gone wonky with the turn counter, likely due to the fact that I tried to play on Epic while the .wbs file is set to Normal.

Anyone know anything about this? And, more specifically, how to fix it?

If it's a user-made scenario, you need to bring this up in the thread for that scenario. They just made a miscalculation and need to change the number of turns.

It's a scenario that I made ... sorry, should have been clearer on that. I started a game - large map, terra, 9 civs, normal speed, noble - and then used the WorldBuilder to completely re-make the map as I wanted it (maybe that is more correctly called a "mod" or a "map"?) and everything has worked fine except, apparently, the turn counter.

I can't find anything in WorldBuilder that allows one to set the number of turns; my assumption was that the player can select that when starting the game (by choosing "Normal", "Epic", or whatever). But now it looks like maybe the number of turns was set when I initially started the game, and selecting "Epic" when I went to play later has screwed things up.

What I probably need to do is open up the .wbs file in notepad and change the number of turns alloted. But I don't know where in the file to find what needs to be changed, or what to change it to. I'm not above copying the file and experimenting, but I thought that perhaps one of the forum's experienced modders knows what the problem is and can say "Go here and do this, it's really easy".

Worth a shot, anyway. Any ideas are welcome.

Try turning the time victory off. Might work...

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think that's going to work. As I understand it, turning off Time Victory does not give you an infinite amount of scoring turns. It just means that some other victory condition must be met once time is up (i.e., the game won't automatically declare the civ with the highest score the winner in 2050).

Besides, I'd like to get this working correctly for real. I have friends who want to play it, and it'd be nice to give them a scenario that doesn't rely on work-arounds and half-measures.

I do appreciate the input, though!
