View Full Version : New Unit Replaces Initial Warrior on Game Start?

I originally posted this in the "creating new units" tutorial, but I got no feedback, so hopefully I will get better luck here from someone that knows what is causing this problem.

A sacrificial offering goes to whoever can figure out my problem:

I've created multiple units (not unique units, by the way), but whenever starting a new game every civ begins with a Settler and my new unit (same one every time) INSTEAD of the warrior it should start with.

Does anyone know what the cause of this is? It reminds me of some technology issues when new techs were created, which allowed Plastics and Computers to be researched in the beginning of the game along with the other beginning technologies... that time it had to do with the position of the techs both in the XML file and their XY coords ... I wonder what causes this issue?

Do you have prerequisite techs for the new units? I think if a unit doesn't have prerequisistes it will be available right at the start and unless you have hunting will replace the warrior.
If you do have prerequisistes, are they some new techs you added? Maybe there's a problem with the techs or with the combination of techs and units.

Sorry I couldn't be any more help.

I have other units with NO pre-req techs but it's always that same unit that replaces the warrior ... what if I wanted a warrior and my other units to be available instead of replacing each other?

The game creates the best fighting unit that it has access to at the game start for that civ (that it is able to build with the techs that civ has access to at game start). Im not sure what algorithym it uses to determine what the "best unit" is, but it sees the unit it is using as being better than the warrior. It probably has a higher strength.

Thank you so much for the clarification Kael. That explains it all; and makes sense too, since the unit replacing the warrior has 100 strength,

That's what I offer you for sacrifice, as promised... but you'll have to sacrifice it yourself :p

Where I come from we have many shephards, so I've got plenty of farm animals :D
