I'm just wondering, if it would be possible to turn Civ 4(a turnbased strategy game) into a role playing game. now hold on, before you go saying it's impossible, I think that this idea has some genuine plausibility. Sure it would require extensive modding (like none have ever seen before), but Civ 4 does already seem to have some minor RPG type elemnts in it, like unit promotions. Might it be possible to emphasise those elements, and tweek some others, and make extensive use of event sripting and some awesome story telling, to make a really interesting mod? Possibly. the developers said that they internaly designed civ 4 to be more of a TBS platform, than a singular game, and hinted at the possibilities that could result from this. why limit ourselves to just a TBS, why not try to branch out?

and i would do it more like a mercenery style rpg, so u wander around and expand your group, having to look for gold to pay your mercs.

well, in a lot of RPGs, when you upgrade to better weapons and stuff, you don't nesicarily see them on your avatar. I think that a lot of the potential for this kind of a project lies in the event scripting in python. I can do XML, but I need some one who knows the games python to tell us exactly what it is capable of.

Your saying that the civs should run themselves and roleplay?
I've seem to hear this idea many times, but noone has done anything online to host these types of games. Oh well, maybe you can be the first one.

nonono, it's not multi player, it's an idea for a mod. the idea is to see how far the mod comunity can push the boundries of what is possible with Civ 4.

Sounds more like a RTS to me. I guess its possible, it'd be a very unique mod though :p
