DaveMcW May 05, 2006, 11:57 AM Yeah he asked me for help too... I declined that generous offer then demanded his last 10 sheckels. It's the first time that Thanks Dave.... I thought that I was going to cut back research in a few turns. Now I can go 3 more turns without decreasing science :goodjob:
I'd be happy to fund your next tech too if you share it with me. ;)
Robi D May 06, 2006, 03:01 AM keshlik huh? :p
That is the Mongolian UU last i checked:p
Anyway it seems they wont be heading to far south, which is unfortunate for Regentman. I hope he has some long pointy sticks at the ready
Theoden May 06, 2006, 05:25 AM Did someone just gift me two workers? I noticed two idle workers and I can't remember building them and sending them to where they where standing...
Robi D May 06, 2006, 05:59 AM Did someone just gift me two workers? I noticed two idle workers and I can't remember building them and sending them to where they where standing...
You'll find that was Matrix's doing
robboo May 06, 2006, 07:40 AM Did someone just gift me two workers? I noticed two idle workers and I can't remember building them and sending them to where they where standing...
Dang it. I was chasing those things. Matrix..you sneaky buzzard. Theoden you can thank me for that...just send a basket of gold:)
BCLG100 May 06, 2006, 12:59 PM That is the Mongolian UU last i checked:p

well i always thought it was keshik :p
Matrix May 06, 2006, 02:29 PM Did someone just gift me two workers?

BCLG100 May 06, 2006, 03:52 PM fancy gifting me some???
Theoden May 06, 2006, 04:18 PM http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/tiphat.gif
Thank you. You can send more if you feel the need, my borders will be open to you.;) :mischief:
BCLG100 May 06, 2006, 06:16 PM out of interest, who was Saladin?
Tubby Rower May 06, 2006, 06:29 PM Saladin was Benegeance but he got booted because he lacked the time
Matrix May 07, 2006, 11:14 AM Something's not right. Each second takes more than two seconds. :ack:
BCLG100 May 07, 2006, 11:52 AM this turn should have ended hours ago.
DaveShack May 07, 2006, 01:48 PM Hmm, thought the time was weird, guess it actually was.
I'll be saving and rebooting soon as I check that nobody is signed on.
RegentMan May 07, 2006, 02:10 PM Just logged off.
robboo May 07, 2006, 02:15 PM off also..
BCLG100 May 07, 2006, 02:23 PM im gone now as well and i think i was the only person on after that time as well.
DaveShack May 07, 2006, 02:44 PM Thanks to all who cleared off the server so quickly for the reboot. :)
It's back up now and seems to be running normal speed.
BCLG100 May 07, 2006, 05:12 PM cool, any ideas why that happened?
Robi D May 07, 2006, 08:25 PM  Stonehenge is Mongolian
robboo May 07, 2006, 09:15 PM KILL THE MONGOLIANS...
oh wait thats the demo game not this.....sorry I keep getting confused.
RegentMan May 08, 2006, 08:56 AM It's okay everyone. I escaped RegentMangrad before it fell. No idea how long Premier will hold up, though.
BCLG100 May 08, 2006, 10:02 AM but has stonehenge been captured?
Matrix May 08, 2006, 10:07 AM Well, I guess next turn might be my last one. (Not sure though.) Meleager, Robi D, when will you be playing?
It's okay everyone. I escaped RegentMangrad before it fell. No idea how long Premier will hold up, though.
Thank God, you're ok! Are you hurt?
robboo May 08, 2006, 11:57 AM Matrix...it was nice killing your city. I enjoyed it. :p
Good move on gifting those workers...
BCLG100 May 08, 2006, 01:04 PM so is matrix dead now?
robboo May 08, 2006, 01:19 PM not yet...unless it just happened.
Matrix May 09, 2006, 07:18 AM Good move on gifting those workers...
Least I could do. :D I might as well have given Goon to Theoden, but that would spoil the game. (I've seen that happen before. Not a good move.)
@BCLG100: apparently my death is being postponed another turn.
robboo May 09, 2006, 07:58 AM I hear tonight at 530PM CDT...might be a funeral.
Robi D May 09, 2006, 08:05 AM Least I could do. :D I might as well have given Goon to Theoden, but that would spoil the game. (I've seen that happen before. Not a good move.)
@BCLG100: apparently my death is being postponed another turn.
Postponed:confused: It right on schedule according to my watch, maybe yours is running a little fast;). That said i have no problems getting ahead of schedule, just move the archer out of the way and we can have this over and done with now:D
robboo May 09, 2006, 08:22 AM What fun is that..I want to see that archer get..axed or skis ka bobbed. At worse I will finish him off with a wooden club.
BCLG100 May 09, 2006, 10:24 AM i want to see what'll happen with the archer too, its the main reason my scout is still there!
Whomp May 09, 2006, 12:57 PM i want to see what'll happen with the archer too, its the main reason my scout is still there!
In Chicago we call that a "gapers delay". It's when someone watches an accident while driving their car and slowing down traffic to watch someone carted into an ambulance....to that I say "beep, beep"! :D
robboo May 09, 2006, 01:25 PM rubber necking( term down here) people usually meet unfortunaelty endings...
BC..we might get hungry and have to eat your scout.
BCLG100 May 09, 2006, 02:09 PM well id prefer you wouldnt if im honest
GeorgeOP May 09, 2006, 05:00 PM "bottle necking" up here. But is it a surprise that it's a term that comes from beer?
BCLG100 May 09, 2006, 05:32 PM well over here in the civilised world ;) you dont get too much of that going on tbh.
robboo May 09, 2006, 05:59 PM you guys have cars?? I figured since gas( petro) was so expensive you went back to using horses.
Robi D May 09, 2006, 08:02 PM It called rubber necking here too, either way its seem quite a crowd has come to see off matrixs
RegentMan May 10, 2006, 01:42 AM I'm timing out.
DaveShack May 10, 2006, 02:15 AM ISP bounce, game back operational (as far as I can tell without being *remote*..
Matrix May 10, 2006, 03:02 AM I'm dead. However, there's no replay. It's just all fog of war.
Anyway, it was a fun game. I see you in your spoilers. ;)
Robi D May 10, 2006, 03:11 AM I'm dead. However, there's no replay. It's just all fog of war.
Anyway, it was a fun game. I see you in your spoilers. ;)
:hatsoff: to Matrix who was a good sport to the end despite being put through the ringer by Meleager, Robboo and myself.
I sure we'll meet in another game where you might take me to the cleaners.
Btw had an idea about the no replay thing, maybe like the problem with the oracle you need to be there at the end of the turn, but i'm only guessing
robboo May 10, 2006, 10:17 AM Just to let you guys know..I am having ybbor play my turns for a couple of days. IF I have a trade pending with you please send it now otherwise He will cancel it.( with the exception of the two I told him to expect)
I will have email and pm contact except for 2 days. I will return to the game on May 16th. if I live through my visit with my in laws and the 20 hours in a car with my 4 year old and 2 year old.
BCLG100 May 10, 2006, 04:36 PM if matrix is willing would it be allowed for him to play someone's turns for a couple of days if they go away, im not saying i am going away, im just wondering what everyone thought about that?
DaveMcW May 10, 2006, 04:41 PM You might come back and find 3 civs at war with you.
BCLG100 May 10, 2006, 05:08 PM You might come back and find 3 civs at war with you.
lol ok see your point :D
ybbor May 10, 2006, 09:59 PM to whoever sent robboo a trade: quickly re-send it, I screwed up pitboss diplomacy :crazyeye:
robboo May 10, 2006, 10:18 PM dang it....yall be nice to him now... :)
RegentMan May 11, 2006, 12:06 AM I seem to be timing out again.
Don't kick me Dave; I promise I'm not a complainer!
Robi D May 11, 2006, 12:15 AM Timing out for me too unfortunately:(
DaveShack May 11, 2006, 12:43 AM pitboss restarted
RegentMan May 11, 2006, 08:50 AM Turn played. :)
Two or three turns before the Regentian Empire ceases to exist.
ybbor May 11, 2006, 05:17 PM I'm having troubles myself now...
BCLG100 May 11, 2006, 05:39 PM i managed to play my turn before, think it was about 5pm
DaveShack May 12, 2006, 12:14 AM pitboss restarted again
Mauer May 12, 2006, 07:36 PM I tried, but it said something like "We have lost our Pitboss connection."
BCLG100 May 13, 2006, 06:56 AM maybe its me doing something but i keep managing to be able to play after dave resets it...
Tubby Rower May 13, 2006, 01:13 PM I just timed out on me...another reset required  . I don't know who or what is screwing it up, but it sucks for DS since he has to keep restarting it :(
BCLG100 May 13, 2006, 01:15 PM worked before as well, me and kuningas were able to get on.
Whomp May 13, 2006, 02:17 PM Timing out for me..
Theoden May 13, 2006, 02:23 PM I'm timing out as well...
ybbor May 13, 2006, 06:48 PM timed out :(
Sigma May 13, 2006, 09:08 PM I was able to get in after Theoden but before ybbor... hmmm
Robi D May 13, 2006, 09:36 PM I got in just now
DaveShack May 14, 2006, 02:30 AM I will be on a business trip starting Monday morning thru Thursday evening, 5/15 - 5/18. In light of the difficulties we had the last time I was out of town, I'd like to suggest shutting down the game for that time to ensure nobody gets an advantage or disadvantage purely from a connectivity problem.
If there are no objections, I'll be shutting it down around 10PM MST Sunday (0500 GMT Monday) and not restarting until around the same time Thursday night / Friday morning.
Robi D May 14, 2006, 04:23 AM That's fine by me, its the most sensible thing to do
grs May 14, 2006, 04:39 AM If you make such a long break I would like it to start shortly after a turn has started not short before one will end.
robboo May 14, 2006, 06:06 AM no problem here.....shut it down when you want.
Tubby Rower May 14, 2006, 09:24 AM excellent idea Dave
DaveShack May 14, 2006, 02:22 PM Shutdown schedule: A new turn will be starting around 1700 MST (gmt -7) today. The request from grs is a very sensible one, by stopping just after start of a turn, it guarantees everyone will have a good shot at the next turn in their respective time zone, because almost a whole day will remain on the clock. So assuming I'm home then, I plan to let the turn click over, contact anyone who happens to be online to let them finish, and then save and shutdown. To reiterate, the purpose is to keep anyone from gaining or losing from network outages while I'm gone which seem to be back with a vengeance the past week.
BCLG100 May 14, 2006, 02:51 PM Well i'd prefer to carry on but if everyone wants to stop then i dont mind.
DaveShack May 14, 2006, 11:59 PM My wife wanted to go out for dinner (it's Mothers Day in the US) so this delayed shutting down the server until there was about 20 1/2 hours on the clock. When I get back we can either reload from the autosave (but falling back for those who got in and played" or from the 20 hour save. It turns out the wall clock time of the game restart will be about this same time, so as far as time zones go, the restart will leave everyone the same number of hours left at the same time of day.
I'll go by comments in the thread when choosing what to restart.
BCLG100 May 15, 2006, 10:06 AM its only 3 hours, so long as the restart is at a decent time it should be ok.
Sigma May 15, 2006, 10:18 AM 20 hours in pitboss time is about 23 hours in real time anyway, so it should be fine. ;)
DaveShack May 19, 2006, 01:26 AM Restarted, 20:22 on the clock.
Robi D May 19, 2006, 03:36 AM :woohoo: Welcome back Daveshack
Mauer May 19, 2006, 03:33 PM I second that. In honor of your return, I will sacrifice 50 warriors at the temple of.... hmm, nevermind. His temple was destroyed.
BCLG100 May 19, 2006, 07:44 PM that and do you really have 50 warriors to be wasting in this game??? :)
DaveMcW May 19, 2006, 08:31 PM I could use 50 or so warriors for target practice. :mischief:
I guess that wouldn't work if we're following the MTDG ruleset.
Mauer May 19, 2006, 08:53 PM that and do you really have 50 warriors to be wasting in this game??? :)
Well....it was going to be a long term sacrifice (1 per every 3 or 4 turns untill hitting 50).
DaveShack May 19, 2006, 10:35 PM I second that. In honor of your return, I will sacrifice 50 warriors at the temple of.... hmm, nevermind. His temple was destroyed.
Your gracious offer is accepted. That little icon of a box which is wrapped up in a bow performs the necessary function.
Robi D May 20, 2006, 05:43 AM Timing out ....
Whomp May 20, 2006, 08:05 AM Me too.....
Welcome back DS!
DaveShack May 20, 2006, 10:27 AM Pitboss is restarted again. :badcomp:
BCLG100 May 20, 2006, 01:18 PM how come theres been more mess up's recently???
DaveShack May 21, 2006, 01:52 PM Pitboss is down for a few minutes while windows update reboots my machine.
Actually, it's down for more than a few minutes. The update program didn't say it was going to take hours instead of minutes. :(
Sorry about the delay, I'll get it back up as soon as Windows stops thrashing my hard drive and goes through the auto reboot.
All this so I can compile the SDK. That's some consolation. :D
DaveShack May 21, 2006, 03:13 PM back up 10char
Mauer May 22, 2006, 07:48 PM My apologies ladies! Long day at work. Hard to start up Civ from my truck *shrugs*
BCLG100 May 25, 2006, 10:49 AM game just got interesting...
Tubby Rower May 25, 2006, 11:55 AM it's been interesting... I know of at least 2 PM boxes that have been full this week
BCLG100 May 25, 2006, 11:58 AM mine has actually filled up quite a few times because of this and PBEM's and mafia games.
robboo May 25, 2006, 12:14 PM i keep dumping mine...to text files.
2 times this week
BCLG100 May 26, 2006, 06:02 AM im timing out now... :(
DaveShack May 26, 2006, 09:22 AM I got up this morning to browsers complaining about no connection, and a pitboss window scrolling "out of sync" messages. I wonder if my ISP is seeing a flood of outgoing traffic and shutting it off because it thinks I have malware of some kind.
Connection bounced, pitboss active.
BCLG100 May 26, 2006, 09:29 AM Is it the running of pitboss causing the problems?
BCLG100 May 27, 2006, 04:33 PM And im not sure if its just me but as tubby was trying to get on before i got kicked off and now it says its timing out :( ill give it a few mins and try again.
robboo May 27, 2006, 04:34 PM bc, grs and I were on..tubby tried gettin gon adn it kicked me off sayign pitboss crashed. One of us might be teh problem or maybe a certain combination of us. It tool forever to load BC when I was on and instantly for grs. I am not pointing fingers just letting everyone know. I have been on with BC,with Tubby, with grs, with DaveMcW, with Matrix, as individuals on other occasions with no trouble...so maybe it was all of us that did it.

I probably do have a slower connection than everyone else but ive been on before with 3/4 people so i dont think its my doing.
DaveShack May 27, 2006, 05:00 PM Restarted...
BCLG100 May 27, 2006, 05:03 PM My apologies if it is me doing this, im not sure what i could be doing wrong because i havnt changed anything :S
DaveMcW May 27, 2006, 05:06 PM Contacting established peer BCLG100....
Finally got in, but immediately got OOS.
BCLG100 May 27, 2006, 05:41 PM Contacting established peer BCLG100....
Finally got in, but immediately got OOS.
i have no idea why, the only firewall i have is this norton internet thingy, i had msn running at the same time as well:confused:
Tubby Rower May 27, 2006, 05:54 PM it appears as though Saladin knows me all to well
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7228/image26uw.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
robboo May 27, 2006, 05:57 PM BC..check to make sure you have the right ports open. I am not sure which ones someone might chime in. The patch made it a littel more firewall unfriendly it seems. I had issues until I opened up the right port and allowed CIV 4 as open..
Man Saladin could not have been more right....

Man Saladin is could not have been more right....
erm where do i find ports and how do i change them???
DaveShack May 27, 2006, 07:01 PM :rotfl:
That's the first time I've ever seen that one.
robboo May 27, 2006, 08:02 PM erm where do i find ports and how do i change them???
I dont have norton so I cant help you:)
DaveMcW May 27, 2006, 08:13 PM The port you need to open is: 2056 UDP
This thread is kind of old, but it can get you started.

BCLG100 May 28, 2006, 06:14 AM Would it just make things easier if i just turned norton off when i opened up the pitboss?
IglooDude May 28, 2006, 07:16 AM Would it just make things easier if i just turned norton off when i opened up the pitboss?
That's the way I did it for a while, yeah, seemed to work fine except every once in a while I'd forget to do it.
BCLG100 May 28, 2006, 07:26 AM That's the way I did it for a while, yeah, seemed to work fine except every once in a while I'd forget to do it.
Well nothing bad seems to happen when im in your OT game but ill do it, i was on before and nothing bad happened-getting stuff for my spoiler-any lurkers its over at CDZ, feel free to advise/flame/spam :)
robboo May 28, 2006, 08:25 AM might not be you BC. Lets blame Tubby, The AI saw him coming and decided to kill the game..
BCLG100 May 28, 2006, 12:58 PM I found this-not used it yet but could be fairly usefull.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=172460
DaveShack May 28, 2006, 11:56 PM need to reboot the machine, saw a chance when nobody's on so will be down for a few minues
DaveShack May 29, 2006, 01:40 AM It's been back up, meant to post here but as usual major distractions.
robboo May 29, 2006, 08:34 AM I was on and someone could not log it...I have the firewall set correctly..so beats me.
Tubby Rower May 29, 2006, 08:42 AM I got a message from DaveMcW and tried to reply but his PM box is full so .... here's my reply Dave
I am not one of your vassal states and do not have to answer to you.
Good luck in your dealings,
Tubby
Do you care to explain this iron deal?
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/316/civ4screenshot01135ho.th.jpg (http://img80.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot01135ho.jpg)
DaveMcW
robboo May 29, 2006, 02:59 PM What iron deal...??? Cant tell from that picture.
Timing out here...but internet has been flakey today.
RegentMan May 29, 2006, 03:07 PM I'm timing out as as well.
Poor DaveShack. :(
DaveShack May 29, 2006, 03:26 PM At least it's not dropping connections during long downloads etc.
In my younger day I would have put the cable modem and router on a remote control power source and designed an auto-operator script to save the game, drop the cable modem, wait, bring up the cable, wait, connect to somewhere, loop back if still broken, else startup pitboss.
Now that I have kids it's more like click click, play with a car, click click, set up the "slip & slide", take pictures, click click, game's back.
Sorry about all the delays. :mischief::crazyeye:
Sigma May 29, 2006, 03:33 PM Hey - at least we made the right choice and didn't pick pitboss for the MTDG!
robboo May 29, 2006, 05:31 PM no problem with the delays..
BCLG100 May 29, 2006, 06:56 PM What iron deal...??? Cant tell from that picture.
Timing out here...but internet has been flakey today.
under theoden where it says 'iron from tubby rower' or something like that methinks
robboo May 29, 2006, 07:38 PM ahhh OK missed that.
Robi D May 29, 2006, 07:41 PM Well done Tubby, i would not have been as remotely diplomatic as you.
robboo May 29, 2006, 08:13 PM you guys be nice...I am between you guys.
Mauer May 29, 2006, 08:33 PM Let's just hope for your sake that you stay between them.
robboo May 29, 2006, 09:15 PM Ahhh yes...that could be a problem....but I think I got that covered..for now. :)
BCLG100 May 31, 2006, 05:38 AM im timing out now :(
grs Jun 01, 2006, 03:24 PM It seems to like crashing shortly before the turn changes...
DaveShack Jun 01, 2006, 03:28 PM That's interesting, is someone staying connected across the turn change? I could imagine a burst of IP activity at that point. Still no idea exactly what's going wrong, except that the entire home LAN loses connectivity with the WAN at that point, and I have to reset the cable modem. The only thing I can think of that makes any sense at all is a burst upload filter in my ISP, to enforce the "no servers" rule. I wouldn't think running a PTBS would meet their definition of a "server" but you never know.
DaveShack Jun 01, 2006, 03:31 PM BTW, I'm once again in some danger of being eliminated. This is not a threat to my opponent by any means, but should that happen I'll quickly lose interest in hosting. No offense intended to anyone in the game by that, just being honest. I'm too honorable to pull the plug, but if there are any volunteer backup hosts, please identify yourself. :D
BCLG100 Jun 01, 2006, 03:35 PM yep down for me as well :(
BCLG100 Jun 01, 2006, 03:46 PM There are 2 people i know with a server that could run it, matrix was having a go at cdz but it didnt work (he's also sort of out of the game) and igloodude but he isnt in the game.
robboo Jun 01, 2006, 03:57 PM Dave you must have rotten luck with all thsoe warmongers around you.....
BCLG100 Jun 01, 2006, 04:04 PM yer.... damn hattie :mischief: Dave do you have any idea when pitboss would be back up and running?
robboo Jun 01, 2006, 04:29 PM once you declare peace....or your exams start.. :mischief:
DaveShack Jun 01, 2006, 07:31 PM Probably not for at least 1.5 hours after this post, won't be home for a while.
Robi D Jun 01, 2006, 10:22 PM I doubt it crashes because someones logged in at the change of turns, i have done so on 4 or 5 occassions (a few weeks ago was the last time) and there was no problems at all. There must be another issue somewhere
grs Jun 02, 2006, 04:15 AM I doubt it crashes because someones logged in at the change of turns, i have done so on 4 or 5 occassions (a few weeks ago was the last time) and there was no problems at all. There must be another issue somewhere Same for me. I just wondered, since it was down around a turn change the last few times. May just be a coincidence.
Furiey Jun 02, 2006, 07:17 AM I did wonder whether it was a time of day issue rather than turn change as the times I have had difficulty connection were morning GMT. Could that tie in with a time that your ISP considers abnormal for such activity? I have also been on over the turn change with no problems.

I thought that it was just a random thing but sometimes it takes me longer to connect in the lunchtime. I dont think it has much to do with being on over turn time because even ive been there! Maybe its because the game is getting bigger?
robboo Jun 02, 2006, 07:51 AM never mind...
Thanks to the little birdie for answering my question:)
DaveShack Jun 02, 2006, 06:02 PM I need to take the server down around noon tomorrow my time (GMT-7) and bring it back up around noon or a little after on Monday. Sorry about the interruption...
BCLG100 Jun 02, 2006, 08:02 PM dave would it make more sense to pull the game in an hour or so? so that way when you put it back up everyone has a full 24 hours to play?
DaveMcW Jun 02, 2006, 09:24 PM Connection Failure!
An incoming player was unable to connect to you.
So is my firewall the problem?
robboo Jun 02, 2006, 09:27 PM DaveMcW Check your firewall...I shut mine off completely and it still wouldnt let me load when you were on.
ALSO..I read somewheres that if you play your turn adn dont exit to desktop it causes problems when the next person comes on....long load times. I cannot find a link to it. So I guess if we wanted to help DaveShack and err on the safe side. After playing your turn "exit to desktop" instead of going back and playing more Civ by going to the main menu.
robboo Jun 02, 2006, 09:29 PM Connection Failure!
An incoming player was unable to connect to you.
So is my firewall the problem?
cross post..yeah Dave it would not let me on. Problem is we were on together when I was at war with Matrix...patch must have changed things.
Sigma Jun 02, 2006, 09:32 PM Connection Failure!
An incoming player was unable to connect to you.
So is my firewall the problem?
That must've been me. It kept timing out saying "Connecting established peer DaveMcW." ;)
Furiey Jun 03, 2006, 02:28 AM I had to re-setup my firewall for Civ 4 after the patch, the system saw the 1.61 patched game as a new program and as default blocked it again.
Meleager Jun 03, 2006, 03:33 AM Teh culture is bombing :scared:
Robi D Jun 03, 2006, 05:24 AM Teh culture is bombing :scared:
Yeah yeah music man, you beat me to it by one turn:)
robboo Jun 03, 2006, 06:53 AM poor placement of that bomb...:) At least for someone...not me:)
BCLG100 Jun 03, 2006, 05:29 PM So have you shut the game down now dave?
Mauer Jun 03, 2006, 08:10 PM Just thought I would share a picture taken on a recent state visit to Whompenland. He did apologise for not dressing up for me :)
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/6541/codyandthejagwarriorr5wx.th.jpg (http://img212.imageshack.us/my.php?image=codyandthejagwarriorr5wx.jpg)
Whomp Jun 03, 2006, 11:46 PM Mauer dude, don't give up my m.o. I'm trying to stay undercover. Hehe.
So who's getting culture bombed?
Meleager Jun 04, 2006, 01:59 AM I set off a bomb that claimed alot of unclaimed territory. Alot.
BCLG100 Jun 04, 2006, 06:39 AM And also drew everyones attention who couldnt see the borders when a size 2 city got on the 5 greatest cities :p
robboo Jun 04, 2006, 07:37 AM I watched the full effects of the bomb from just far enough away. My poor ax was minding his business in neutral land when bam..culture everywhere poor guy...he will never be the same.
Luckily it didnt take any of MY territory otherwise meleager might have less one city.:)
GeorgeOP Jun 04, 2006, 10:56 AM Timing out now.
BCLG100 Jun 04, 2006, 11:05 AM I need to take the server down around noon tomorrow my time (GMT-7) and bring it back up around noon or a little after on Monday. Sorry about the interruption...
think this might be why george
GeorgeOP Jun 04, 2006, 12:32 PM Ooops, missed that post.
DaveShack Jun 05, 2006, 09:11 PM We had a power outage while I was gone. Might be bad luck for some people because I had forgotton to pull the plug as advertized, and the last save was from 6/2 -- no autosave for 6/3. At least the computer survived, it was a thunderstorm.
Tubby Rower Jun 06, 2006, 05:39 AM I noticed that I had to re-move all of my units. ~ 15 hours from this post left on the turn so replay if you haven't yet.
BCLG100 Jun 06, 2006, 10:28 AM I replayed my turn-results were maybe better than last time :)
Tubby Rower Jun 06, 2006, 10:44 AM you should have replayed as close to original as you could ;)
BCLG100 Jun 06, 2006, 10:51 AM you should have replayed as close to original as you could ;)
oh i did, just lost less HP on attacking units that last time :)
Whomp Jun 06, 2006, 11:46 AM :hmm: Not sure I like that answer BCLG. If you did exactly the same thing the RNG would be the same I'd think.
grs Jun 06, 2006, 01:39 PM No, thats is wrong. We surely will have played in a different order so different results are expected!
Whomp Jun 06, 2006, 01:45 PM OK well then it is was it is. Play on.
BCLG100 Jun 06, 2006, 02:57 PM and besides its not like i checked each individual unit, just noticed i had one more unit able to move this time which maybe i just didnt notice last time.
Whomp Jun 06, 2006, 05:31 PM Anyone timing out like me?
DaveShack Jun 06, 2006, 08:15 PM The area around my house got a severe thunderstorm this afternoon, so I'll bet you can guess what probably happened, again.
Gotta get some form of remote control installed on that machine, I don't want to ask my wife to save and shutdown when this happens, or the CD might be gone when I come back. :mischief:
GeorgeOP Jun 06, 2006, 10:33 PM In Arizona? Isn't that kind of unusual?
Whomp Jun 06, 2006, 10:47 PM In Arizona? Isn't that kind of unusual?
It's monsoon season there and the light storms are some of the most amazing things you'd ever want to see.
OT..DaveShack... How about that girls softball team winning the world series again....ho hum. :mischief: Bear down Wildcat!
Meleager Jun 07, 2006, 01:11 AM I've set of that culture bomb 3 times now.
BCLG100 Jun 07, 2006, 05:57 AM and ive captured a certain city 3 times now.
Tubby Rower Jun 07, 2006, 06:48 AM I was thinking about the different outcomes of BCLG's conquest adventures. The RNG might be set in stone, but all 18 (now 17) players might not have played in the same order. So in theory he could have done everything exactly the same order and gotten different results. That's one of the downsides to simultaneous play, but it shouldn't happen too often.

Can anyone tell me, how long the turner is still running?

yup well they were worse this time, lost another unit.
Tubby Rower Jun 07, 2006, 11:14 AM sorry.... I just thought about it yesterday on the way home from work and your post was the last on the previous page.
robboo Jun 07, 2006, 12:33 PM grs...we had a restart 3 times on this turn..hence why its still running on this turn.:) If thats what you are asking.
grs Jun 07, 2006, 01:31 PM No, I just feared I would miss it this time.
DaveShack Jun 07, 2006, 04:43 PM No, I just feared I would miss it this time.
As long as we don't have any power outages today, that is.
Robi D Jun 08, 2006, 02:00 AM As long as we don't have any power outages today, that is.
We can only hope, because its starting to feel like groundhog day:D
BCLG100 Jun 08, 2006, 07:39 AM I changed the name of Shackopolis this time so hopefully it shouldnt :D
robboo Jun 08, 2006, 08:49 AM IS that turn over yet..I am too scared to check:)
robboo Jun 08, 2006, 12:37 PM Curiosity...more than anything.
Do we have any sort of rules to govern gifting cities? I dont think it has happened yet but in the future as people rearrange borders after conquests it might come up.
Can you just gift a city for no reason?
Tubby Rower Jun 08, 2006, 12:42 PM I think that everyone should gift me one city as a sign of good faith.
I'm inclined to say yes to gifting cities. unless it's within one turn of falling (and it's gifted to a party not at war with the attacking civ.)
DaveMcW Jun 08, 2006, 12:58 PM I would say yes, as long as it doesn't result in the new owner kicking neutral units out of the city radius.
BCLG100 Jun 08, 2006, 01:09 PM i think you should be able to gift cities.
robboo Jun 08, 2006, 02:05 PM Only problem I have is if you gift a city to another person who is about to be eliminated.
BCLG100 Jun 08, 2006, 02:31 PM well no i dont think that should be allowed but i cant see many people wanting to keep a 1 city civ in the game.
Sigma Jun 08, 2006, 03:15 PM How about we say no gifting of cities if either party is currently at war with someone.
BCLG100 Jun 08, 2006, 03:19 PM well i dunno, if your at war with someone and definatly going to win is a bit pointless to hold onto a city.
grs Jun 08, 2006, 03:20 PM I do not see a reason to restrict gifting cities in any case.
robboo Jun 08, 2006, 04:07 PM I guess I rather die first than be someone's puppet. There is honor in death.....no honor in being lead around like a dog.
Dont we have rules in the MPDG for gifting cities...that should be our minimum rules to start with.
I say no gifting cities to someone who is at war unless its a peace offering.
Tubby Rower Jun 09, 2006, 07:46 AM I think that gifting cities right before a civ dies, reaks of stupidity. But I also think that vassal states aren't fair play.
But on the other hand, they aren't against the rules. so gift away IMO but know that you'll get a -4 rep hit in my eyes.
grs Jun 09, 2006, 01:31 PM Be that as it may be. I never asked to give away cities, I just said that I see no reason to forbid it. I also don't understand the talking about vassal states since I do not see any in this game.
I am quite surprised there is such a fuss about a tactic no one used yet, while it recently seems to have become a sport to demand things from every AI that is declared on, which looks more like an exploit than gifting cities to me.
Whomp Jun 09, 2006, 02:02 PM Be that as it may be. I never asked to give away cities, I just said that I see no reason to forbid it. I also don't understand the talking about vassal states since I do not see any in this game. What is Regentman's country called? :p If he is not a vassal then why does he still stand?

I have no problem with gifting cities however gifting and gifting back the same city should be prohibited.
robboo Jun 09, 2006, 02:31 PM question..if you gift a city does it recieved defensive units? If so then that is an exploit that 2 allies could use to build a quick force..much like Whomp said.
There is at least 1 vassal state, soon to be 2 if history repeats itself.
grs Jun 09, 2006, 02:38 PM Ok, I need to play closer atention to the country names, I admit. I still don't get the benefit to either side. If anyone could enlighten me?
Whomp Jun 09, 2006, 02:53 PM Ok, I need to play closer atention to the country names, I admit. I still don't get the benefit to either side. If anyone could enlighten me?
The benefit to Davemcw is he doesn't have to pay maintainence for Regentman's city and Regentman can funnel cash/lux/resources over to Davemcw. Regentman? Not sure. As someone has recently stated there's honor in death. Maybe davemcw offered assurance of a co victory? I don't know the details.
Robi D Jun 10, 2006, 03:08 AM The gifting cities thing has become a hot topic atm. Personally i don't see anything wrong with gifting cities as such, if someone wants to trade cities or give a city for gold or whatever thats fine with me because that is in the spirit of the rules, but if your doing it to deny someone capturing a city or to save someone being defeated then that is not right. I think we are all experienced enough in playing the game to know whats right and whats wrong.
As for the whole vassel state thing Regentman and DaveMcW have going that's there buisness, i see nothing wrong with it. Its a very shrewed move by DaveMcW to save some maintenance costs while collecting gold although personally i wouldn't make the agreement myself, i wouldn't see the point of hanging around with one city giving all the production to someone else
BCLG100 Jun 10, 2006, 05:52 AM vassal states dont bother me, if someone wants to be one fine, not the way id play the game but whatever :)
DaveShack Jun 10, 2006, 04:33 PM I'm getting a message "contacting BCLG100 peer firewall not set up properly".
BCLG100 Jun 10, 2006, 05:02 PM yer sorry about that, my whole PC locked up completly and i didnt realise for awhile because i thought it was just loading. Ended up having to unplug at the mains.
BCLG100 Jun 11, 2006, 09:46 AM im timing out now
DaveShack Jun 11, 2006, 01:59 PM It's up now.
grs Jun 12, 2006, 03:09 AM Since I have problems accessing the internet right now, could someone please tell me the time left on the turn-timer?
Meleager Jun 12, 2006, 06:43 AM There are 14 hours 52 minutes left :)
BCLG100 Jun 13, 2006, 10:00 AM Sorry dave, one less player now.
DaveMcW Jun 13, 2006, 10:22 AM http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/southpark-stan.gif Oh my God, they killed DaveShack!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/southpark-kyle.gif You bastards!
We really do appreciate all the effort you put into hosting the game, Dave. :) I'd like to encourage everyone to post screenshots and gossip now that Paper is available, to keep the host interested in the game. ;)
BCLG100 Jun 13, 2006, 10:43 AM And you can now look at my spoiler over at cdz and look at the hassle and poncing around i did trying to delcare war on you.
BCLG100 Jun 15, 2006, 06:08 PM im timing out now... :(
Meleager Jun 16, 2006, 06:07 AM I'm also timing out.
Tubby Rower Jun 16, 2006, 03:01 PM Dave might have given up on hosting this game... :( Good job Simon :gripe:
robboo Jun 16, 2006, 03:27 PM Hey Dave..if we all promise to gang up on BC will you turn the game back on :)
/joking BC.
BCLG100 Jun 16, 2006, 03:32 PM Dave might have given up on hosting this game... :( Good job Simon :gripe:
awww man i didnt want to ruin everyones fun :(
is there anyone else in the game who can host it?
robboo Jun 16, 2006, 04:13 PM Dave will be back..he just might be away from the computer.
GeorgeOP Jun 16, 2006, 06:28 PM His last activity was yesterday. Let's give him some time.
DaveMcW Jun 16, 2006, 07:33 PM Speaking of waiting for DaveShack, Innovia has MTDG save now. ;)
BCLG100 Jun 16, 2006, 07:44 PM awww everything's my fault now, i sent him the save!
Tubby Rower Jun 17, 2006, 10:06 AM I was just teasing you BCLG... Out of 18 players, Dave surely couldn't have expected to be guaranteed to stay in and if he thought (which I doubt) that by hosting the game everyone was going to play nice and let him survive unconditionally, then so be it.
Don't worry about it.. ;)
DaveShack Jun 17, 2006, 10:38 PM It's on as far as I can tell. No worries, I already said it would feel weird but my intent is to keep it going as a service to my friends. No hard feelings, figured I was toast way back when grs found that he had an archer vs warrior+settler.
I'll go save and restart it just to be sure it's up, since PTBS doesn't tell you when it's having a problem.
Whomp Jun 17, 2006, 10:57 PM My connection is still timing out. :(
Meleager Jun 17, 2006, 11:01 PM "Our connection has been rejected because we have provided invalid identification data."
DaveShack Jun 17, 2006, 11:11 PM how is it now?
Note for future reference -- don't try to restart a pitboss and log into another game at the same time.
Whomp Jun 17, 2006, 11:26 PM Works now Dave. Thanks!!
Meleager Jun 17, 2006, 11:36 PM It's working now. :)
Tubby Rower Jun 18, 2006, 01:39 PM Wow... I declared without thinking...
btw, why is Regent the Greater Mongolian Empire? shouldn't the one with the most cities be greater not lesser? :hmm:
Anyhoo... I just needed my boat to get passage :p
BCLG100 Jun 18, 2006, 02:05 PM so will we be down to 13 players soon then? hattie isnt lookin too good either.
robboo Jun 18, 2006, 03:33 PM nah I think tubs needs his boat...
grs and Dave..I have an ax I would like back towards my territory..I hate to have to kill a worker to get through your borders...either one of you want to let me pass? After I am out you can close your borders again. IF not I might have to kill that worker working that rice or maybe start pillaging. Grs..that warrior of yours looks like a great promotion for my ax too.:)
Tubby Rower Jun 18, 2006, 03:45 PM OB has to be for 10 turns. or a declaration.
DaveMcW Jun 18, 2006, 03:56 PM Mongolia is always looking for trading partners. :thanx:
Robboo, see how much you can get Tubby to pay your for "Stop Trading With the Mongols"
robboo Jun 18, 2006, 06:24 PM I am currently not trading with you so I doubt he will give me anything...besides Tubby and I are in a sort of Mexican stadnoff over a flood plains area right now.
..now if you wan to make deal for gunpowder maybe we can talk. I just want my ax back and if I am going to lose him...well he is going to kill something on his way out.
"its not over till you're in the ground" is my troops motto.
RegentMan Jun 18, 2006, 09:34 PM btw, why is Regent the Greater Mongolian Empire? shouldn't the one with the most cities be greater not lesser? :hmm:
It's "Greater" in the sense that this Mongolian Empire is further away than the motherland, almost like a colony.
You could consider Australia and India, back in the day, a member of the Greater British Empire.
robboo Jun 18, 2006, 10:42 PM DaveMcW...thanks for the open borders..you popped that border so fast I couldnt get back home.( you must be running some culture to pop a border that soon after founding a city.)
We can terminate the deal after I am past.
Tubby Rower Jun 19, 2006, 06:39 AM We can terminate the deal after I am past.Actually you can't. OB are for 10 turns minimum. Although you can declare on Dave and then your OB agreement will be nullified.
Oh and I forgot to thank RM for the open borders. Nice archers in your capital RM. 8 more and you can join with Theoden to get a WC team.. Sort of like Trinidad & Tobago or Serbia and Montenagra
robboo Jun 19, 2006, 07:03 AM well then 10 turns we can address that..
archers...poor guy.:mischief:
grs Jun 19, 2006, 01:28 PM It is down again. I hope I won't miss a turn to that again :(
BCLG100 Jun 19, 2006, 01:31 PM i was on it before, there were 13 hours to go when i was on, so you should be able to play :)
i was on about 6.45pm my time.
grs Jun 19, 2006, 02:04 PM Well 13 hours is not much if you work 12, drive 2 and have to sleep sometimes, but I still have hope.
RegentMan Jun 19, 2006, 02:06 PM I'm timing out too.
Tubby, your warlike actions will not be forgotten by the Empire. Archers or not, your despicible galley cannot win. Good luck bringing reinforcements...
BCLG100 Jun 19, 2006, 02:06 PM yup, well ill be here tomorrow, you could tell me your password and i could go in and have a look around ;)
robboo Jun 19, 2006, 02:08 PM I'm timing out too.
Tubby, your warlike actions will not be forgotten by the Empire. Archers or not, your despicible galley cannot win. Good luck bringing reinforcements...
bold words from a puppet...
RegentMan Jun 19, 2006, 02:15 PM Puppet to the most powerful man in the game.
robboo Jun 19, 2006, 02:29 PM yep...I got no beef with Dave. However..I dont like puppets.
BCLG100 Jun 19, 2006, 02:37 PM Puppet to the most powerful man in the game.
is it not boring though? you cant have much to do.
