Well thanks  I'm honoured :)

thats why i found it weird, its a fairly popular article...sorry I haven't been able to nerd out over in the strategy articles like I was able to do for [c3c]. My son has been getting up every 45 minutes at night and to keep my wife's sanity intact (however tenuously), I haven't been able to park in front of the computer much. I've been playing my turns ~ 5am before I go to work .

The sanity around the house nowadays is currently being held together by a couple of strips of duct tape. I haven't been able to get out and re-stock on the tape or we would be a-okay.

No worries, i'll go highlight the good ones for you ;)

its best to expand loads nice and early (like civ3) build as many cities as you can and then attack without catapults-we all know they wernt so usefull in civ3-basically its the same game!

Tubby Rower
Sep 05, 2006, 12:52 PM
:rotfl: should I try for Leo's as well? I'll start a pre-build for it so I can switch over at the last minute

One other thing, if you're Hindu, is that you get to watch Dave build 1,000 units that hit for 3 promos out of the box.

Robi D

Is it just me or have we all lost our marbles:crazyeye:
Then again can you lose something you never had. I was looking at the map and noticed there was no marble on the entire island:confused:

Is that a map error or something to do with balanced maps because i've never had a game so far where a whole resource was missing

robboo
Sep 05, 2006, 08:21 PM
WOW...Robi nice catch.

I think I had marble in the first trial run of this game..then we restarted. I wonder if there is a marble island out there.

Tubby Rower
Sep 06, 2006, 06:11 AM
 for a minute there I thought that marbles was a custom resouce that Robi had been playing with.

There is a lot of dark spaces out there. I have 2 paths across the sea now and haven't seen anything but water water everywhere and not a drop to drink

robboo
Sep 06, 2006, 10:01 AM
Robi has lost his marbles...just like boat loads of elephants in another game.

did you check under the cities???

Maybe it was near one of the cities that had the battles and its covered with bodies.

Robi D
Sep 06, 2006, 09:33 PM
did you check under the cities???

Maybe it was near one of the cities that had the battles and its covered with bodies.

I then went and checked throught the dipomacy screen and no one had it. if it was under a city it would be connected.

robboo
Sep 06, 2006, 10:13 PM
I could have sworn I had seen it also...

Robi D
Sep 07, 2006, 04:07 AM
Well if you can find it by all means show me. I can't see it anywhere, which to me is really odd for an entire resource to not be in the game.

robboo
Sep 07, 2006, 09:24 AM
I thought I remember grs having it....just a hazy memory.

I also guess this means you were getting ready to build a wonder that needed marble.... and were going to trade for it with a "friend" if they had it. Otherwise..why would you look for it. :)

Robi D
Sep 07, 2006, 10:14 PM
No i was just having fun with my new graphics card looking around in general and it just happened to catch my eye i that i couldn't see any marble, so i started to look closely for it and did not see it anywhere on the map. I just find it really odd that its nowhere to be found, so i'm curious more than anything why there wouldn't be any. It probably one of those 1 in a million things that happens with the map script.

Tubby Rower
Sep 08, 2006, 05:55 AM

In Mongolia all archers are taught to ride horses before they learn how to walk, so we consider them mounted units.

So it's fine for you to tromp your flea bitten horses through my territory? I've has pest control companies working overtime to get the non-native species exterminated.

Robi and Tubby both live in warm places. Would this be considered a "warm war"?

robboo
Sep 14, 2006, 10:11 AM
Warm...ha. There is more Tundra down there that anywhere else in on this map. In fact Tubby should change his civ's name to "Tundra Expanse."

I will be out for 1 or 2 turns...no one kill me please..also that will explain my scouting troosp wondering around or stopping for a few turns. Since Mauer claims to be capable of killing someone in 1 or 2 turns i feel safe since he is sooo far away.

Mauer

Dear Tubby,

Greece is a nuclear free zone, therefore I have to deny your nuclear destroyer access to Greek territorial waters. If you don't comply i will have to set my greenie units onto you :D
Is that why the Greeks have 4 mined sources of Uranium? I suggest that you pillage those mines or I might do it for you :D.

Robi D
Sep 15, 2006, 07:15 AM
Now How the hell would we know? Someone whos name rhymes with "Flubby" did want to trade Physics so we don't know what uranium looks like.

I tell you what, you give me Physics and i will go and disband those "uranium mines"

Tubby Rower
Sep 15, 2006, 07:16 AM
oh sorry, I forgot that you were backwards :P So how did you surmise that my ships are running on uranium. I was using sheep flatulence at one point for locomotion.

Robi D
Sep 15, 2006, 07:24 AM
Hmmm , gee my flee bitten horse riders told me you have no oil:p , hence they must be nuclear powered:p

Also, I read that they are in China, Indonesia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Canada, Brazil, South Korea, Japan and Germany as well. 17% of their annual profits are outside of the US. So there :p

Sep 19, 2006, 04:12 PM
I had to look this one up. Considering grandpa's age *points up at Whomp* I'm assuming it has to be the first one. Note the word in the def "obsolete". ;)

Treacle is an obsolete pharmaceutical term for a medicinal salve, usually given for snakebites, poisons, and various diseases. In the Middle Ages, wells that were believed to contain curative water were known as "treacle wells".
See also treacle mining.
Treacle is another word for molasses.
Treacle is a substance used to season a bagpipe bag to keep the bag airtight, and to allow moisture to dissipate. Common ingredients might include beeswax and honey, and secret ingredients.

Rumor has it that you guys already knew because someone has opened their mouth.

Today's new song from Led Zeppelin...

The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom, And walked the night alone.

Oh, dance in the dark of night, Sing to the morning light.
The dark Lord rides in force tonight, And time will tell us all.

Oh, throw down your plow and hoe, Rest not to lock your homes.

Side by side we wait the might of the darkest of them all.

I hear the horses' thunder down in the valley below,
I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon, waiting for the eastern glow.

The apples of the valley hold, The seeds of happiness,
The ground is rich from tender care, Repay, do not forget, no, no.
Dance in the dark of night, sing to the morning light.

The apples turn to brown and black, The tyrant's face is red.

Oh war is the common plight, Pick up your swords and fight.
The sky is filled with good and bad that mortals never know.

Oh, well, the night is long, the beads of time pass slow,
Tired eyes on the sunrise, waiting for the eastern glow.

The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath,
The drums will shake the castle wall, the ringwraiths ride in black, Ride on.

Sing as you raise your bow, shoot straighter than before.
No comfort has the fire at night that lights the face so cold.

Oh dance in the dark of night, Sing to the morning light.
The magic runes are writ in gold to bring the balance back. Bring it back.

At last the sun is shining, The clouds of blue roll by,
With flames from the dragon of darkness, the sunlight blinds his eyes.

Ooh, Bring it back, Bring it back...

Robi, You really aren't one to be talking about ethics.

And gifting cities was already talked about and was deemed ok by all IIRC. I refused the trade of the cities. I'll let you guys sort it out. I abided by the rules set forth in the earlier in the game. Whether that was the right thing to do or not, I don't know. But I'm not letting someone who has been fighting to see me die for about a hundred turns get them. without going through someone else first.

If everyone agrees that I should take them back, I will and then empty the cities so that Robi can come and get them.

I'm not the one who went back on an agreement. If you expect me to be friendly with you after that then your kidding yourself. As for the 100 turns, i don't know where you pulled that number from, i'm not sure if we had even met each other.

You know very well gifting cities that are under attack is not allowed, just really depends on whether you would say they were under attack or not, but that aside i don't really care whether you gift them to someone or not because i'm coming for them either way so play on.

Finally I have no personal issues with you, i just have a problem with some of your actions in this game and have acted accoringly. If you have a problem your free to PM me

I don't really wish to get bogged down into the technicalities over what happened. We all know we are not suppose to gift cities that are under attack, what it gets down to is when you would consider a city under attack.

As far as Yort-Sirap is concerned, no units were near it nor where they heading towards it, Quicker than U had units in the area and they were heading in that direction. I guess it comes down how close units have to be before you consider a city under attack. I'm sure everyone would have a slightly different view on the matter, and i'm happy to continue the game. The change of ownership wont be changing my objectives.

Robi, there was no troops within 5 tiles of the cities that I could see. Both you and Whomp had all of your troops up by RIP. My cities were not under attack. As I said before if the majority of people wish that I take them back, I will.

Next time that I gift cities, should I ask my attacker... "I don't see any units in the area of city X. Are you going to take it, because I was planning on gifting it???"

I did mention as soon as you declared on George and me that Dave would get a gift of more than techs. What else could I give him?

I have learned a lot in this game and I've had fun. It has been very trying on my feeble brain to keep up with the diplomacy crap. I think from now on, I'll play games that don't involve out of game diplomacy.

@Theoden, you have only one more turn left in the game. I hope you enjoy it.

I was taking my time... but then you decided to be a little bit agressive :nono:
You seem very sure when you only have a 1.22 numerical superiorty... But I shall never submit to roman arrogance. :p

And aggressive...? Do you mean when I eliminated your riflemen a few turns ago because you left them in the open? ;)

So all of my gifting techs to him hasn't helped. I was wondering how things were going up there....
Of course, it's very helpful. Meleager is now facing MG's and infantry instead of grenadiers. Even if he succeeds in conquering me he will take many more casualties in doing so - which is good for everyone else. :)

The Incans officially thank King Tubby for all the techs and support during the war. Also thanks to another generous empire who wished to remain anonymous (you know who you are ;)).

Not so anonymous when one looks at Civstats. ;)

You seem to forget the effect cannons have on things :p

Even if the RNG hits me bad, there are always more troops. Can't say the same for you...

Yes, they were simply enjoying the country side...

A few troops are nothing. I could throw them around like Robi if I wanted.

I don't suppose this means I can declare war on Tubby....

Actually, Tubby may now consider himself an enemy of the Roman empire. And when I find out who else was involved... :hammer:

I think I'll go for the award Longest Surviving City State. :) So, when is the next estimated elimination day? ;) (I think I've had about four...)

Sorry to say it, but you've got the wrong guy. And if you're basing your intelligence on the civstats page like Whomp suggested, I can tell you that civstats holds absolutely no clue as to who the anonymous civ really is... However, I think I've found out from what information some might misconclude who the civ is. ;)

Hey Theoden...you better make that settler find a place to settle soon..otherwise its going to die when your city dies.

Mel...how much will you give me to kill his settler over here by the area of George/Tubby and me. I would do it for free but if you want to conitinue our present arrangements for longer..thats cool to.

My information comes from more reliable sources then civ stats. Civ stats would have me believe someone has been supporting you who has not. It is just as well that the Roman people are smarter then the true puppet master behind this war or we could have attacked an ally.

As future warning, you should never try and trick Rome. :nono:

EDIT - Yes, I have gotten a few pms along the lines of "it's not me".

I'm really more interested in getting a bit more land rather then whipping out a civ. So for the settler, you can use your imagination.

Actually Regentman was a city state before you by about 15 turns so you would have to go and kill him before you die to lay claim to that title.

If it makes you feel better you can have the title of most attacked city state

Robi D
Oct 06, 2006, 12:22 AM
Dear Tubby,

One of my destroyers picked up some of your troops out of sea. Apparantly the transport ship they were on had sunk. They are being taken back to shore for processing. The Greek Transport Safety Department will be looking into the case. The troops have said they spent 6 months on a leaky boat

(here a chance for another on of your sing alongs whomp;) )

Tubby all you woudl have to do is check in once a week or so like RM does.
