I have just found a quick way of loading games that are using mods, rather than starting up Civ4 the normal way, goto your saved games folder

C:\Documents and Settings\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Saves\single

and double click on your saved game, this will load Civ4, the relevant Mod and the saved game.

Hope some of you find this as useful as I am :)

Wrong section. But, a nice tip.

Not sure which section to post it in, but as it regards loading mods, I thought this was the place where most people would find it usefull. :)

I did this once and it crashed until I discovered it would probably work if you edit civIV.ini and set this line correctly:
Mod = Mods\<nameofthemod>
Then Civ4 loads all ini's, xml and other stuff properly.

I have considered doing that, but its a bit of a pain to have to change the .ini file every time I want to play a different mod, or vannila Civ. I haven't yet had the game crash on me :) Also this works for creating new games, I openned the Europa Europa 3 - Expanded Scenario map from the public map folder and it was able to start a new game from this.

You can also use a command line switch to load a mod:

"C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Civilization4.exe" mod="MODS\[Mod Name]"

I've got a couple of shortcuts set up in my start menu that point to different mods, so I can start the game and jump right into whatever mod I want... no .ini file editing necessary!

That is amazing. I think that I'll set that up right now.

Indeed an amazing solution. Should be in a reference if you ask me!

Cheers for that, will get a couple set up for my favourite mods :)

Double clicking on a save game doesn't work for me at all. I suspect it's because I have a Steam version of Civ4. Anyone know a workaround, or a way to include a save game name on the command line / shortcut to load it?

I nearly always just want to load my quicksave file.

Thanks, and sorry for the thread necro. This is just where google sent me, didn't see a better place to post.

So I did figure this out, and then forgot it, and then found it again in my own old files (no idea where I found it the first time), but found this thread AGAIN, so I'm going to answer this question here for the NEXT time I lose it (and maybe someone somewhere still cares).

This was my shortcut for loading a mod AND a save file from the command line (all in one line):

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization iv beyond the sword\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe"
mod="\Fall from Heaven 2"
/FXSLOAD="C:\jpc\My Games\beyond the sword\Saves\single\quick\QuickSave.CivBeyondSwordS ave"

You'll have to change the exact location of your save game file, of course. Your saves are probably in your My Documents folder somewhere.

And now that I found there, there's some more command line and mod stuff here:
